Players must be enjoying playing in stadiums that are filled. Since Aus joined I cannot remember having crowds like this across all games. I even remember the international media was deriding the Asian Cup in the past because of it's empty stadiums. Certainly raised the bar.

In 2007 the four host nations got massive turnouts for their home games, particularly Indonesia and Vietnam, which really boosted the average attendances. But apart from that the attendances were pretty poor from memory.

Correct - 2 group games had less than 1000, 11 had less than 10,000, the others had a host nation involved with massive crowds (60,000 in Indonesia and Vietnam for example, 40,000+ for Thailand and Malaysia).

Only one quarterfinal was above 15,000, semi-finals only had 12,500 and 10,000 respectively.

I think it will be interesting to compare the crowds from the lower drawing AC games (eg Kuwait vs Oman , Jordan vs Palestine) to the lower drawing cricket WC games (eg Zimbabwe vs UAE, Afghanistan VS sCOTLAND)

This will be interesting. I am going to Australia v Bangladesh & Ireland v UAE at the Gabba. The Ireland v UAE game is on a Wednesday and could be comparable to say the Iraq v Jordan game at Suncorp for attendance. It may end up lower than 6K too which would be a good win for football.

Cat 1 and 2 available again for the korea game. Why wouldn't you just sell all available seats in the first place?

Canberra averaging about 8k with 2 games played in awful weather and all games at 6pm k/o or earlier. How do people think this fares in FFA eyes for a football club based in the city?

Also can't help but feel 22k @ Allianz would have absolutely kicked ass, 22k @ ANZ is still awful.

I would have thought it was sold out by now but have nothing to base my opinion on

Interesting a about extra transport home. I would hazard a guess not but haven't looked into it.

FFA would probably be thinking they will need a bloody good TV deal.

What, and have a semi final and final potentially involving Australia at Allianz? Crazy.

for some reason these small crowds in the asian cup look much better than what id expect to see for a 5k crowd. the sparsity looks nothing like what we have for fury or gcu games.

The crowds in Canberra have been respectable but not enough to justify a HA-L licence.

I dunno. There's a lot of Micks in Australia on working visas and such. The profile of cricket has been rising in Ireland in recent years. I mean it even gets a mention on the Second Captains podcast (well worth listening to).

Mind you cricket was mega-huge in Ireland 45 years ago when the Irish team skittled the West Indies touring team all out for 25. Just as with the GPO in 1916 there were 250,000 there that day in 1969. There was a TV camera there and film survives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKN4vVm7Ffs

Its a game for everyone. Its not pale, male, or stale. It transcends race, gender, economic status. Its for everyone. - Tal Karp

The crowds are thinner on the broadcast side in every match, opposite of what you normally get at a league match..

Yep, I think everyone that had a designated seat behind the goals moved towards the centre anway.

Last night was one of the funnest football atmospheres I've witnessed - it was so much freaking fun. Maybe SFS or Melbourne Rectangular (Amy Parks @ Melbourne Rectangluar amirite) would have been better for that crowd - but by no means was ANZ a bad option for that crowd last night. The place went off, and although there were heaps of seats you could barely notice it if you just listened to the crowd.
