Honda - been in uncharacteristic form last 2 games for Japan Kruse - has shown consistent penetration and goal potential. Luongo - Australia has won when he has proven himself as a playmaker. Son - doesn't seem to be able to get minutes. Leckie - has been attacking and positive in every game. any others feel free to name. who do you think will have a stand out Tournament Edited by highkick05: 21/1/2015 07:12:30 PM

Assuming we win, gotta be Cahill. If Sth Korea, Son or Lee, depending on who scores in the Final.
The first goal against China even had NRL types talking. Great for the game and he is a media presence as well.

I think in the mix Cahill, Son... based on who wins. may even be Luongo / Son.

Wouldnt be surprised if Omar. Smokey would be one of the SK defenders, Franjic or Sainsbury.
Have a feeling it'll be Son.

Abdulrahman might not get it or even deserve it. But he has been awesome to watch.

How many aussies will make the best XI ? Most likely to least I think:
*Luongo has to be there (1 goal and 4 assists), *Sainsbury surely 1 goal and an assist very solid passing game good getting things going from the back *Maty Ryan (chinese keeper was pretty good but an extra 2 game for maty should give him the nod) *Tim cahill (3 goals and an assist a goal in the final or an assist will give it to him 100%) *Spiranovic (sainsbury has been better not sure how other CB's have gone? think that will decide it ) *Mattthew Leckie (2 assists and some decent runs but will need a big final to make it) * Ivan franjic (2 assists and involved in 2 others not the best but any rb's been better ? leckie/kruse have helped him a lot) *Jason Davidson (1 goal and 1 assist will need a good solid final to make it)
Pretty decent effort I think we will have 4 max though just so the team is mixed. I think our heavy squad rotation will stop any other aussies getting in really need a minimum 4 games to make the cut. Kruse only has 1 assist no goals, Troisi 1 goal no assists, Oar / antonis / sub keepers no minutes, Bresciano nope, Mckay nah, Milligan solid but nothing to fancy, Wilkinson only 1 game, Juric not enough minutes

Officially Luongo the man of the tournament. I was probably hoping this more than anything because its a position we desperately were lacking in. Ange has found a good mid now. Thank fuck and what a prospect!

Thank fuck and what a prospect! In serious though well deserved, the kid has been fantastic and hard to see him staying out of a much bigger club before next season.

Abdulrahman was absolutely the best player at the tournament, and only missed out because they didn't make the final.

It's going to be a sad day when Cha Du-Ri retires. The guy is like Arnie in T2. Such a beast.

He's apparently the only survivor from the Korea team at WC2002. Does anyone remember if he was one of the players then who, well, cheated? Asking for real so please don't turn this into a flame war. o:)

Honda had a pedestrian cup, shouldn't be anywhere near the team of the tournament. Their right back (Sakai?) is the one who can feel unlucky not to make it, he was fantastic. If it weren't for Du-Ri's excellent performances at the end of the tournament putting him fresher in the minds of those who picked the XI, Sakai would surely have been there.
