Is the recent Asian Cup an indication as to what a World Cup would be like in this country?

Probably a mini version of what would occur.

Why mini, after all there were 16 teams?

Should we compare it more to the Olympics? The Sydney Olympics were much more than simple attendance. There was a lot going on for those who didn't have tickets to any sports. The Asian Cup had nothing going on outside of the Stadium areas. In fact if you didn't have a ticket, chances are you wouldn't even have known it was taking place. Would the World Cup be more like The Olympics or Asian Cup?

Probably means mini in that if you're selling out a 30k stafium for japan vs uae, imagine whatd happn if it was italy vs mexico.
Also think the draw of the world cup (far more travelling fans) would mean more tourists coming into the country.
Also more teams at a world cup obviously, so more games, etc.

It was nothing like a potential world cup. World Cups have the streets just heaving with people and all attention fixated on it.

But for the future of Australian Football what would be the better legacy, winning an Asian Cup on Home Soil or hosting (but not winning) The World Cup?

Still think The Asian Cup was a missed opportunity with the lack of "buzz" or general public involvement. No opportunities to meet players was a big negative! Once the final whistle went there was no fanfare, no trip through the streets in an open deck bus holding the trophy aloft.

Fair comment.

I've travelled abroad to a lot of countries. The Asian Cup would have had a far greater proportion of media coverage if held in those countries.

Hadn't thought about the lack of opportunity to meet players. It would certainly help the profile of the game.

Thought it was well organised anyway, played it down instead of going overboard with things we are new to.

Thank fuck we've got the first one out the way though, we know what to expect next time.

Also the star power of a World Cup would be a huge drawing card. Ronaldo, Messi, Fernando Torres walking through the streets ? lol probably would draw more crowds

Worked on a briefing by Tourism Australia for a tourism industry body yesterday, and they were raving about the success of the Asian Cup and how much business and connections it's bought in.
