Ajax have trained more footballers currently playing in top-division European leagues than any other club, according to a study by the International Centre for Sports Studies.

CIES presented a map of the top 100 clubs who have trained the most players in 31 European leagues, and Ajax came out on top, producing 77 players.

The Dutch giants narrowly edged Serbia's Partizan Belgrade, who trained 74 players. Barcelona were well behind in third place with 57 players.

France's Ligue 1 had the most clubs in the top 100.

The data tracked teams where players trained for at least three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21.

I saw this list the other day. As a fan of Atalanta B.C. I was surprised to see they weren't more highly rated, if only slightly. Inter's youth ranks are fruitful, but that the highest ranked Italian team is only in at #71... that's a shame, really.

Yet they couldn't beat Rapid Vienna in the UCL qualifier, always about the quality not quantity of players.

Johan cruyff made a point about this in his blog recently, stated that Dutch football has lost a bit of its spark.

In the current climate, with Holland failing to qualify for European Championships tournament, many of the products of Ajax Academy should not be recent.
