Agreed Pala, but none of them are really equipped to step into the roles of the afore mentioned.

Which roles? Emergency welfare?

Not necessarily emergency welfare.
Adoptions and foster care work. Drug, alcohol and abuse supporter. Working with indigenous communities. Huge drives like 'Toys and Tucker'.
The existing organisations have a lot to offer still. At this stage, they aren't replacable with the alternatives. One day they will be though, I'm not arguing that they shouldn't be. However, I don't really see a need for a mass secularisation of the charity/NFP/welfare and support agencies.

There's a surprise.

That someone in the Catholic setup is see some consequences for covering things up?

Very big surprise.

Pell is lucky he's in The Vatican right now.

He won't be in a hurry to get back.

It's just going to be a nightmare few years for a lot of religious organisations.

Some would say that it's long overdue.

And they would be right.

Unfortunately, some charity organisations are being hindered by the process, but that's a small price to pay for justice.

Time for the rise of the transparent, secular, non-profit NGO.

Transparent how? I'd be happy to see that happen, but it won't. The established religious organisations are too well respected for their work I suspect (St. vinnies, Salvos, Anglicare ect).
I'm all for religious charity groups, because I know they do some fantastic work. Many have a sketchy past, but that shouldn't stop them from working for the good of the community in the future.

The Red Cross, CARE and Doctors Without Borders and many more do alright without having a religious agenda.

Thankyou Water is a great demonstration of a transparent secular charity group.

I've started donating to the Smith Family, everything I've been able to find about them I've liked. If people have some credible dirt on them though, I'd like to know as I have high standards for where I donate.

On the original topic, as a Catholic I'm happy that these people are being weeded out.

Adelaide Archbishop Philip Wilson charged with concealing child sex abuse

Adelaide Catholic Archbishop Philip Wilson has been charged with concealing child sexual abuse, New South Wales Police have confirmed.

The charges relate to paedophile priest Jim Fletcher, who worked with the Archbishop in NSW in the 1970s.

The NSW Special Commission of Inquiry into the Maitland Catholic Diocese recommended that a senior church official be charged over the matter, although the report did not name the official.
