First thought was 'why are we not helping these people'.

We give Indonesia $500mil a year and we have these people doing it tough in our cities.

I hope the government people saw this and saw the help that lady was giving the young girl who'd been raped. We don't need workers with degrees. We need to fund people like this lady who are genuinely caring and genuinely help those in need!!!

nah Australia would rather laugh at their own who are either classed as housos or cut down anyone who is too successful....

It wasn't a pisstake at all. It was showing what the extremes of poverty do to people in Australia. Those people are not neccisarily a representation of the entire area they are just a few sad stories that are a bit too common.

Please don't apologise, I saw some rough and odd things going on but by and large the community is full of generally good people. You can see in the show that people are pretty tight with their neighbours and I had the same experience that I havnt had living anywhere else. I had some of the best football coaches out there soccer and rugby league. They were fantastic and treated us like their own kids.

There was some strange things about the place too, there used to be this "street baby" in my culdasac i remember seeing him grow up from age 2-6 standing outside his house everyday seemingly with no supervision.

There was a dude that walked down the street with a different bike or lawn mower everyday, i went into his yard with his son one day and saw hundreds of them under the house and in the backyard.

I saw my neighbour get arrested by 8 cars full of armed cops dragged out in his underpants.

Probably the most haunting thing I ever saw was a crying teenage girl being let out of the toilets at plumpton shopping centre followed by a dude in his undies being dragged out by cops.

In the same mall I saw someone assaulted with a metal pole, there was a lot of blood.

So I just thought I'd share my experience, good and bad. This part of my life probably did a lot to shape my political views. I've got no regrets.

I thought the promo was cut together in a way that did give that impression. The show itself was not.

yes i did
i thought it was sugarcoated to give that impression but there was an underlying motive that gave viewers an excuse to laugh at them.
OK interesting. I didn't find much to laugh about, not sure where it was sugarcoated.

Agreed, I didn't find it funny at all.

I found it concerning and feel ashamed that we allow this to happen. We talk about standards of living as if we all have it easy, conveniently brushing these social issues under the carpet.

its amazing in this day of age we still judge someone by their class status.
Jarryd Hayne used to be a Houso and its funny how those same people dont look at him the same way as those in that show.

its stuck in the old 1970s thinking.

We've also become a country of bloody entitlements. People seem to over-value their use to society.

What else would you call it....I thought it was just set up for people to laugh at those people who had no idea it was going to portrayed the way it was.
A pisstake in very bad taste.

I don't think cutting foreign aid is the answer. I've been reading some interesting economic theories around how governments should spend and in particular around trying to achieve full employment (i.e. everyone that wants to work and has the ability to output and therefore contribute to the economy, are guaranteed a job).

http://e1.newcastle.edu.au/coffee/job_guarantee/JobGuarantee.cfm

I'm still a bit skeptical about it but the basic premise makes sense.

So basically this is going to be a documentary on the show Houso's.

The Blacktown mayor getting his soiled panties in a twist is just hyping the show up even more. I can't see SBS backing down, no matter how many Garbage trucks blockade the SBS building. Free advertising is free advertising.

lol why? I never read anything Heineken says anyway.

And I hate white trash bogansscum that this show is "following" just as much as the next person.

I don't know how anyone would actually waste their time watching this shit though.

Because it is clearly going to be exceptionally funny.
