Whats that got to do with anything? Well Australia is technically and will remain a subject of the Queen as it stays a British subject

If Australia wants to do away with being a subject, then it should consider that subject of becoming a Republic. On the other hand, the US Open (a place which gained independence from Britain) is notorious for its lack of sportsmanship and boorish crowds (worse than Australia), ie 'here batter batter batter batter...', and thats just the beginning, on the other side of the scale they have people who open fire at cinemas :-k ...

It's not really the bottom line. The Duke of Kent goes to (or used to go to, up until a couple of years ago) the Australian Open every year. The TV cameras would always show him right at the front.

Plus the Queen has been to the AFL Grand Final, the cricket, maybe even the Australian Open, so on and so forth.

It is. Unfortunately they don't see it as their role to be witty and interesting. Just happy, dumb, and one-eyed.

Almost all hoi poloi sports fans are pretty one-eyed. Listen to when Murray plays at Wimbledon. I haven't scrutinised the Fanatics properly, and it would be neigh on impossible to do so without being there, but at one point I saw them clapping Gasquet when he won a point (or at least, Gasquet had won the point and they were clapping politely). This seems to me the level of respect you'd hope for.

Agreed they need to be a bit wittier though.

Yeah don't get me wrong I don't hate them or anything. And watching them last night they did appear to show restraint at times so kudos for that...
I just wish they came up with some better material. As a player I would not ever want to hear "Aussie Aussie Aussie... Oi oi oi"...

Time and a place for everything. They add to the atmosphere at the Australian Open. I'm in two minds. On the one hand, I get fed up with hearing their chants and they make us all look like bogans. On the other hand, it's kind of funny seeing people in England get pissed off by them. I was especially happy to see that Mrs Federer was pissed off by them and apparently asked security to tell them to shut up.

And would it be such a bad thing if Wimbledon took on a Happy Gilmore kind of vibe?

Singing a creative, supportive song; good.

Chanting Aussie, Aussie, Aussie and let's go Sam, let's go ad nauseum; bad.

Also, Wimbledon has long been conservative and very English. It's not the place for boorish support.

I think I have a new favourite chant after watching the Kygrios match the other night, "We love you cause you're Australian"

Kind of agree. It's not as simple as 'making noise = good' vs 'making noise = bad'.
