You'd be surprised. Aussie rules would already be played in more than 58 countries.
Of course google will probably prove me wrong but 90% of the overseas participants would be expats.
Shit even I played in the Asian champs against teams from Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia. Lucky to see a single local at the tournament.
The South East Asian and Middle-Eastern teams are mainly all expats.
But round the rest of the World it's mainly played by locals. When I played in England (especially outside of London) it was probably 65% locals (there was even a rule that allowed only 4 Australians on the field at a time). When I played in France and Spain, I was the only Aussie in the team and most clubs only had between 1 and 3.
There are multi-club leagues (some with Women's comps) in:
Australia, New Zealand, PNG, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Nauru, Tonga, Samoa, China, Japan, Timor-Leste, India, South Africa, USA, Canada, Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy & Croatia.
Then teams from the following countries compete in Neighboring countries leagues, Inter-country leagues or in invitation tournaments:
Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Laos, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Northern Ireland, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Andorra, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria and Czech Rep.
