FFA Cup - Queensland (confirmed numbers so far):
Brisbane 67 (6 more team than 2015)
Central Queensland 8 (2 more teams than 2015)
Mackay 7 (1 less team than 2015)
Far North Queensland 7 (same as 2015)
Gold Coast 5 (3 less teams than 2015)

FFA Cup - Queensland (haven't had official numbers yet):
South West Queensland
Sunshine Coast
Wide Bay
North Queensland

Good to see an increase. Hopefully there'll be some more sign ups before entries close.

And hopefully the areas with less teams than last year will have some last minute additions.

So I asked football why their numbers have halved despitebeing a region that plays host to a city of half a million and climbing. This was their response. Is there more that we should be doing?

Quote:
Yes you are right they have dropped, I think from memory last year we had about 9 and this year there are 5. I believe most clubs weigh up the costs involved and how it effects there season also.
Registration to FFA cup is $300. If you are lucky to qualify to round of 32 (to get there a gc club must be Gold Coast city, then the Toowoomba qualifier and then sunny coast qualifier) and then once in 32 a club is required to pay a further $1000 to continue. I think a lot of clubs have weighed up the positives and negatives and have decided to not enter. Hopefully the FFA cups format will change in the future to make it more viable and appealing to community clubs.
Hope this helps.

Only $300? That's hardly anything!

I understand that the odds of reaching R32 aren't great, but there's still a lot of honour and prestige if you advance even just a few rounds. I think it'd be worth it.

Its like what 20 bucks per person? Have a cry. As you said a club could really boost it's name. I remember Cobrams giant killing run in the state comp (iirc they would have made the cup in current conditions).

Where the fuck is Cobram...i don't know. But I know them from this event.

You have to include the match officials fees as well, If you are the home team you have to cover these (which are between $250 & $350 depending on the round).
So if you're only a small, struggling amateur club whose only revenue stream are Player Rego fees and Member Fundraising, then $600 is a lot of money to fork out for what is likely to only be one match.

Clubs got a draft draw for seniors and youth a few weeks ago. They've really bundled the youth. From splitting it into zones(east/west), I think it will be teams playing each other once and a handful of the closer ones twice.

I'll take that. An increase is still growth, so I'm happy

If each confederation could add just another 4 teams it'd be 36 more than last time.

I'll take that. An increase is still growth, so I'm happy

If each confederation could add just another 4 teams it'd be 36 more than last time.

Unfortunately it usually is from Queensland. Football Queensland is a joke when it comes the FFA Cup. They basically pass the entire responsibility to the regions, and then tell them when the games need to be played.

Send FQ an email asking for information, and they won't have an answer. They need to centralise it like the other States.
