You'll soon find that there's NOBODY in Dunedin. It's cold. And shit. And cold.

Night-life is actually amazing.

Best girl/guy ratio I've seen at clubs anywhere.

Most places in NZ are like that. The 'cities' are so small, all the girls are sauce bottles

Can vouch for this.

When Blenheim is considered the capital of an entire region, then the country isn't normal.

Cold and wet. But enjoyable, nonetheless. I'm off to London Road for Peterborough-Ipswich this weekend and in April I'm at White Hart Lane for Spurs-Citeh.

If you ever find yourself sitting near/next to someone who clearly hasn't made any friends yet, don't be afraid to make a comment here and there. When I was in first year engineering, we were doing really basic stuff (stuff we learnt in year 11 engineering) and this guy asked me "how are you finding this?" I just answered back that it was pretty basic stuff and we became good mates from there.

Generally the vast majority of people at Uni are very approachable, and only a small
Minority are stuck up and have that thing about them that you get the idea they think they're better than everyone else.

Yeah, except when I ask people how they're finding things, it's always ridiculously easy for them, and I either get some kind of patronising look or comment when I honestly say that it's not a walk in the park for me. Should I just pretend that it makes perfect sense?
The majority here are stuck up, and it's kind of hard to make them realise that girls can be just as smart when I'm really dumb.

Hmm, a stuck up environment makes it a bit harder then.

The vast majority of people I came across here in Newcastle have been all too happy to have a chat and even point you in the right direction if you need it. I only noticed a handful of stuck up people (you can just tell, so they weren't worth talking to) throughout my whole time here.

Sorry I can't give you advice on how to deal with these snobs, cos I didn't really bother with them.

You're being too harsh on yourself. Maybe ask him why he doesn't like you being around when his mates are there?

Keep talking to people, be yourself and you'll eventually meet like-minded people. 2 years ago I got to know someone by saying "hey, I've seen you round before, what are you working on? By the way, I'm _____."

I'm sure most of them are just saying that to appear like they're having an easy time. A lot of them are probably lying to make themselves seem like a genius.

Do what M_M says. And if that doesn't work, tell him that you want people as friends who aren't afraid to be seen with you.

It helps at uni if you initially know some people in your course or at least there are some that live around where you are. It also helps to not be shy. I had none of those things going for me. If went back in time I'd probably try and force myself to be louder rather than sitting at the back out of the picture.
Most of the friends I made at uni were from group assignments. Others outside my subject because I recognised they were wearing Fluminese, Benefica, Mariners, etc. shirts.

If you'r in an environment where these people are that full of themselves, play to their egos. Be all like "I've never really done this before, you seem to be doing ok...can you help explain it to me?"

And as always, there isn't anything covered at uni that you can't find on google.

What course are you studying?

It's not that most of them are particularly full of themselves (some are though), it's more that they don't realise that they're coming across that way. Maybe some of them don't really know how to deal with girls or something.

I'm studying physics, maths (both calculus and algebra) and psychology.
