Dunno how legit this is, but... Quote:The Secret Agent gives you all the latest internal rumblings from a busy week of A-League action. Alex Gersbach refuses Sydney FC One of Australia’s brightest footballing prospects is refusing to re-sign with Sydney FC. Alex Gersbach was signed to the Sky Blues by Frank Farina over 18 months ago from the AIS. Under current Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold, Gersbach has excelled and caught the attention of the football community, including Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho during the Blues tour of Australia in May.
The reason behind Gersbach’s non-commitment to Sydney FC is none other than his agent Greg Keenan. Keenan, of Aspire Management, is seething that Sydney FC refused a transfer fee in the sum of $500,000 from multiple Premier League clubs in May. The agent stood to make a healthy commission from the deal in May and is currently advising his client to see out his current deal with the club that concludes at seasons end. Sydney FC argue that, despite the offer from England, it was not in the players best football interest long-term, something Mr Keenan should consider for his client. Australian football has a long history of talented players taking the money as opposed to long-term footballing strategies.

Surely we could have sold him for 500k, and then gotten him back for a season or two on loan. :-k :-k :-k Either way, I hope he re-signs with us. [-o<

How many Aussies ever come through EPL academies and move on to senior football with the club (or another at a similar level?) None, or close to it.
He's way to young and inexperienced to go overseas now. Just re-sign, sack your agent, and get on with your career kid!

If there is any truth to this, I wonder if this is why we haven't seen him?

The lad should avoid the UK at all costs, also Brentford made a offer him not doubt the kid is getting some interest.
Should stay here for a couple of seasons and then move, but to developmental league in the continent.

If true, the agent sounds like a twat. Could ruin his career.

He's only 18. Once he's fit again he'll be starting regularly for us. Hopefully he stays in the A-League for a few more seasons before he moves on - for our sake and for the sake of his career.

But English players and players of other nationalities make their way through EPL academies and into the EPL, itself. Ain't no physiological or anatomical differences between Australian players and those players. So there's no reason why Australian players cannot do it. Massimo Luongo is one of the best Aussie players at the minute. Product of English youth football. That said, I think the Holy Trinity is a better place to develop. So I reckon he goes to the Holy Trinity ASAP

Ruin his career?
For refusing to re-sign? We don't even know what SFC are offering, it might be a shit low-ball offer.

He's under 24 and he'll be moving to another federation, so Sydney will be able to claim training compensation.

There's probably what, 20 aussie junior playing u18s or reserves in the UK this season, and in years gone by. Out of these hundreds of players, what maybe 1-2 have managed to get first team football at a decent level.
Think of Gallifuoco, he's been in youth setups for ages at Spurs and Swansea yet hadn't played a senior game of footy until he came back to the HAL.
Obviously there's always a chance he could make it, but getting gametime here first, then moving to the trinity at 20 or so would most likely give him the best opportunity to develop his career.

too good for the a-league as usual our shitty a-league coaches want to park the bus(Arnold). Should head to the trinity he has the talent... sitting on the bench is the worst thing for him now.

Has he re-signed with Sydney, or is his contract still expiring in a couple of months?

Good young player. I can understand Sydney fans comments but sounds like theclub was thinking about trophies instead of cashing in. Nothing wrong with that either but now he'll go for nothing.
