There's still a problem though. It's an electric car

The backward part of Australia (we are neanderthals when it comes to grasping environmental issues), is the Tesla S shouldn't cop any luxury car tax. It's only expensive to cover the cost of the batteries.

Expected lifespan of batteries is at least 8 years with unlimited km's, however the batteries will decrease in output over that time. so maybe 6-10 years. In USA I believe the 85kw batteries cost around $10,000, so if we gues $17,500 here that should have you covered hopefully. As far as dumping of the batteries it wouldn't suprise me if in the future Tesla recycle them through their new battery factory.

The wear and tear on them is far worse than electric cars. As for lithium batteries, they are fully recyclable. It's the older generation lead acid & nickel cadmium batteries that had low recyclability and ended up in landfill.

Quote:Tesla is preparing to announce 2 vehicles in March We’ve seen the Chevy Bolt (not just seen, driven!) so, in March, it is Tesla’s turn to unveil its US$30,000 long-range electric car. We’ve had a steady stream of whispers on the Model 3 but are unable to verify much of what we’ve heard. The biggest tidbit I’ve heard from a second-hand source is that Tesla is readying at least 2 different versions of its Model 3 for the March launch. One version is a sedan and another is a small crossover built on the same platform. I can’t verify if the crossover is the Model Y that Elon Musk mentioned in a Tweetstorm last year, but that would make some sense. We’ve heard that this vehicle will be a smaller version of the Model X with its Falcon Wing doors. Again, it will have a premium price over the Model 3 similar to the $5,000 difference between the Model X and Model S. I decided to hold off on publishing this info until I saw Tesla’s Hong Kong presentation this week, which included two cars under wraps (pictured above). Yes, obviously, the artwork is simply a Model X and Model S under digital covers, but the fact that there are two cars to be unveiled adds a little more credence to what I’ve heard. We broke the news in March of 2014 that the Model 3 platform would be more than just a sedan with the leaked slide presentation below which first mentions “Crossover”.... http://electrek.co/2016/01/28/model-3-surprise-tesla-march-vehicle-announcement/

Tesla is killing Mercedes, Audi & BMW in the luxury car market    Quote:Tesla demonstrated its catastrophic affect on the US luxury car market with a simple table. If you start at the bottom, the market is at about 100,000 cars a year and it’s basically unchanged from 2014 to 2015. The market is for “large luxury” cars and includes not only the Model S but Audi’s A7 and A8, BMW’s 6 and 7 series, the Jaguar XJ, Lexus LS Mercedes CLS and S Class and the Porsche Panamera. Each of these models has fallen in sales from almost 5%-over 15% from 2014-2015. Where did these sales go? Boom! The Tesla Model S is up over 50% going from 16,689 to 25,202 units from 2014 to 2015... http://electrek.co/2016/02/10/tesla-shows-how-the-model-s-is-totally-disrupting-the-large-luxury-car-market-in-the-us/

Quote:The Kochs Are Plotting A Multimillion-Dollar Assault On Electric Vehicles A new group could spend $10 million a year on the campaign. The oil and gas industry may have thought it had killed the electric car, but sales -- boosted by generous government subsidies -- rose dramatically between 2010 and 2014, and energy giants are worried the thing may have come back to life. Time to kill it again. A new group that's being cobbled together with fossil fuel backing hopes to spend about $10 million dollars per year to boost petroleum-based transportation fuels and attack government subsidies for electric vehicles, according to refining industry sources familiar with the plan.
