Quote:Florida-based li-ion battery maker Oakridge Global Energy Solutions recently confirmed a battery supply agreement with Freedom Trucking in Minnesota. In the announcement, Oakridge is making some impressive claims, especially that the battery-powered drivetrain will enable interstate trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 80,000 pounds to travel more than 400 miles.... ....Freedom Trucking expects to save $0.60 per mile over traditional diesel trucks based on an analysis it ordered from the US Department of Transportation. The propulsion system was developed over a 5-year period through a partnership between Freedom Trucking, “Ohio State University scientists and others”. Freedom Trucking aims to first utilize on a daily basis the new electric drivetrain later this year to move cargo between Chicago and Minneapolis. http://electrek.co/2016/03/15/electric-trucks-oakridge/

Quote:London’s first long-range all-electric double-decker buses are now in service
Transport for London (TfL) and electric vehicle manufacturer BYD announced last week that the city of London is putting in service its firsts long-range all-electric double-decker buses... ...The buses are equipped with BYD’s massive 345 kWh battery packs capable of around 190 miles (306km) of range of urban driving, which is generally more than enough for a regular daily bus route. The five buses are more than 33 feet long and feature air conditioning, seats for 54 passengers with space for 27 standing passengers (81 total). If only Australia had such forward thinking #-o

Quote:India’s Power Minister Piyush Goyal recently announced plans for an interesting program that could see the nation’s whole car fleet becoming 100% electric by 2030. It represents one of the most ambitious goal for the electrification of transport in a large country. The program would let people buy electric vehicles with zero down payment financed by the state and drivers can then pay for the vehicle at the rate they are saving on gas. http://electrek.co/2016/03/28/india-electric-cars-2030/

Utterly unprecedented in the automotive industry - Tesla effectively have a $400M 18 month interest free loan Allowing for an average selling price of A$55K, reservations alone will result in sales of A$16B! Unbelievable!!! Tesla Model 3 reservations hit 200K, likely to surpass 300K before year's end http://electrek.co/2016/04/01/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-extrapolates-180k-model-3-reservations-to-a-7-5b-day/

The sad part of the Model 3's release in Australia is it will be above the luxury car tax threshold, because we have a country filled with fucking simpletons who fail to grasp the higher price is not due to 'luxury' but due to battery costs and autonomous equipment standard (that reduces emergency service costs... )

Sadly however this is just about the only government financial incentive for Australian electric vehicle customers except those few in the ACT who get discount rego.

Yes that is relevant for individuals but not businesses. EDIT: Depreciation for business is limited to $57K. Regardless electric cars that have under, say, 500km range shouldn't have luxury car tax. Yep, over 5 years a car doing 30K/year would save over $15K on fuel and about $5K on servicing, apples v apples ICE car (charging off peak). So if it costs $55K, it should be compared to a $35K car. No $35K car will do 0-100 under 6 seconds, have the autonomous capabilities and storage space of the Model 3. The autonomous driving of the Model 3 will be 'second gen' and much better than the Model S.
