I'm so so sorry that you've had to go through this and had to deal with feeling this way :( I don't think there's anything very useful I can say since I'm not exactly a shining example of optimism, but just know that I do relate to what you're saying, so you definitely aren't alone in going through this, even though you do feel extremely isolated. I really genuinely hope that a change of scenery will work wonders for you, and bring back some of the things that depression has taken away. You're a good guy, and you don't deserve to suffer through this shit. I'm always here for you to talk to, even if I can't help I'll still be able to listen, and I won't judge you for the things that you think/feel. I hope it helped to get that off your chest anyway :)

So, i realise this may not be the place to post this, or even discuss this, but i suppose i cant lose out. Ill keep it brief.

For the last two or so years i have suffered with depression. It is absolutely terrible. The feeling that you are alone, and not worthy. I have been to see psychologists, and tried speaking to family, and friends, but it is not really getting anywhere.

The worst part is the impact it can have on your health. I've had a fair few issues, and every time i go for tests to the doctors, the results come back fine, so it comes back to the depression, anxiety, and stress causing all these things. Some times you feel so alone, as if there is no other way, and you are just waiting for the clock to tick by.

People have often told me, "you just need to smile more, and be happy", but it is not just a switch. Sometimes trying to smile alone can be almost impossible. You are quickly reminded of all the things that trouble you.

I have never been the sociable type, so never had any luck in making friends or anything like that. Sometimes you try to make a friend, and you think you have, but then they start acting a certain way or something happens, and you start to question yourself. You start asking yourself what you did, and why don't they like me. You begin to think that you are the cause of many problems.

Iv'e felt quite alone these past few years. Stuck in a dead end job, with no real support, or friends network around you. Sometimes you try to be yourself, and who you are, and then people make fun of you for it, or dont understand it. The worst is when it is the people who are meant to be the closest to you, and they never understand why you like certain things, or why you are the way you are.

Hopefully moving to the UK will be the start of things to change for me. I can't wait to quit my job and leave Australia for now. My health issues have impacted my daily life as well. I can't enjoy family outings as i once did, because you constantly have these things in the back of your mind, and they keep nagging you. Sometimes you feel like you getting better, but then you get something or the other, and you taking another tablet or medication. At 26, i cant describe that feeling of having to take so many tablets (although they are natural stuff) and feeling so unhealthy, unfit, and as if you have had your best years.

Respect for putting aside fear of judgement and talking about it publicly man.
It's things like this that are steadily changing the nonsensical stigma against depression.

And you're very right that those people who tell you to be happy don't know what they're saying. We don't get to choose how we feel. If we could, life would be very easy!

Sad to see you leave Australia, but that's no excuse not to keep up participation on 442 where you have plenty of friends.
As always, my PM inbox is open to you and anyone who wants to talk.

The most important thing you can do for a person isn't to make them smile or make them laugh, it's to listen.

That's the thing. I love my family so much, but they all feel like i don't. My mum will often say i don't show them that i care or love them. I can't just flick on the smile like a switch or anything like that. I think now they are at the point where they go, "there he goes again complaining" or "what more do you want us to do, you need to help yourself." I don't want to be a burden on them, or just have everything go my way, sometimes i don't even want them to come us with solutions, i just want them to listen, accept and appreciate who i am, and help me to nurture that.

I know i will miss them when i leave, but i feel like i need a change of scenery. I know it wont be easy moving to a new country, but hopefully it will help me to get out of this mindset which has been created living in this place for so long. It is far too mundane here for me anymore.

Sometimes when i talk to people, i feel like i am burdening them, so i try to be quiet. People always thinking, "there he goes again" or "such a dramatic person." I hope i can change, but i just felt like i needed to say this somewhere. If people on here feel like im whinging or this isn't the place, then i apologise, but i needed to do this somewhere.

I want to get a new pair of boardshorts but surf shops want $70+ for a pair. Anyone bought some online for hopefully less than $40 that are decent quality, similar to a surf shop?

Brace yourself, summer is coming.

i've done a bit of mild googling, but thought I'd get the thoughts from yall.

I'm usually an 8hour (or more if left to my own devices) sleeper. Note: I don't do naps through the day either.

I have interest in routinely becoming a 6hour sleeper - for various reasons.

I don't know whether if I just set my alarm, and force myself to wake up 6 hours after I go to sleep, how long, if ever, will I get used to, and accustomed to it.

I have mates who routinely get only 4 hours sleep, and function perfectly.

Is there a way to train your body into this becoming acceptable?

I've gave it a go a few days in a row and obviously, was pretty tired. Is there a stage, if I kept on doing it, that my body would just go "I'm a 6hour sleeping body now, I function as well as ever with only 6 hours" or is it something that I'll never be able to routinely do?

Has anyone gone through similar, and attempted to cut back their sleep hours, and how did it go?

Besides a few outliners you don't function perfectly on 4 hours sleep. You just get used to it. Not functioning at full performance and low energy levels just becomes the norm.

Stick to your current sleeping habit tbh. 8 hours is better for the brain and body then 6. I have been trying to change my horrendous sleeping patterns caused my DSPD for a few years now. Your body gets sued to functioning on a certain amount and it can be absolute nightmare trying to change it.

Alright team, settle a debate for me.

Say hypothetically you have 4 compartments in your cutlery draw - one for forks, one for knives, one for spoons, one for teaspoons. It is hypothetically set up like the below sketch:

What item of cutlery goes in which slot (labelled Left, Middle, Right, Bottom for ease of discussion)?

.

taobao.com you can get quicksilver rip curl, billabong for $8 to $15, trick is though you need someone to translate the web page from mandarin. I've successfully ordered and received items for ridiculous prices. How it works is you open a baakee.com account which orders the item for you and lets you pay through paypal, then you copy paste the url from the item you want from taobao.com to baakee.com which then gives you the price plus postage and paypal option. Just watch if you order over a certain amount you need to pay duty.
