But just to point out a couple of things. People whose opinions might be regarded as right-wing (or more likely centre-right) have been responsible for various things you probably hold dear. Equal civil rights for black people and homosexuals... I'm sure if we look hard enough we can find instances of (centre) right wing people who have been prominent in promoting such things. Off the top of my head, I can tell you that Malcolm Fraser did CONSIDERABLY more than Gough Whitlam to oppose Apartheid and to help Vietnamese refugees settle in Australia. It was John Howard who brought about the tight regulation of firearms in Australia. If we go back to the French Revolution, it was those in the middle (arguably centre right) who suggested and promoted all the freedoms we cherish which came out of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. It was the Jacobin left who shat on all that. As for the Catholic priest example... well that can become rather complex, too. I won't even comment on the part about abuse of boys. The systematic cover-up basically means the Catholic Church hasn't a leg to stand on. The bit about helping Nazis is interesting, though. I agree this was indeed the case what with helping them to get to Argentina. But (not that you did this) to suggest the Catholic Church was aligned with the Nazis would be misleading. The number of Jews hidden from the Nazis by various Catholics and indeed in the Vatican itself is exceedingly high. My view of all that is it's a vary broad church and takes all kinds. To sum up on the left-wing/right-wing thing. I think it's wisest not to say "left=bad" or "right=bad". Quite apart from the fact that various things are wrongly characterised as "left" or "right" wing and I, personally, fit into neither the mould of left or right wing.
