I've watched a few Vitesse matches on streams, they would probably win the A-League.

I think even Oxford United would give most A-League teams a run for their money.

I think there is a 50/50 chance the Roos threw the games against France and Brazil in 2013 to get Holger fired.

It backfired for the senior guys because they didn't know how much Ange would clean house.

This has also happened before in Australian sport - QLD Reds in Super Rugby 2007.

Mooy ain't all that.

On the whole, the standard of Aussie goalkeepers ain't too hot.

Simultaneous kick-offs on the last day of the league are pointless if we have a finals series.

The league should be judge by the play on the field not the numbers in the stand.

NZ is not Australia.

ANZ is a great ground.

All Sydney derbies should be played at ANZ.

The F3 Derby is the original and most important derby of the A-League.

I agree with OP - Spira is our best Socceroos defender. I didn't know this was an unpopular opinion tbh.

I found Johnny Warren to be quite a sour person when alive, and although I respect his legacy and all that I just didn't find him THAT appealing of a dude when alive.

Kerem Bulut should be leading the striking line at the 2018 World Cup.

Andrew Hoole is a future Socceroo.

The Allstars were and still are a terrific concept.

You can't support the A-League yet be against modern football - the A-League IS modern football.

There shouldn't be promotion/relegation in the A-league for at least another 15 years and until we've expanded the A-League to at least 14 teams and each team is financially stable.

David Carney has copped far too much unwarranted criticism about the Asian Cup goal. There were others to blame more than him.

14 teams in the league is a terrible number. 26 rounds is too few and 39 rounds plus finals too many.

16 is the ultimate IMO.

But 14 makes 26 rounds, that's one less than current. It's not THAT bad a number, is it?

It isnt so bad given the finals.

But you would go from 12 teams 33 rounds back down to 14 teams 26 rounds.

Stupid argument. There's nothing Even as it is

FFA already manufactures the Schedule, allows team to buy home games, play home games away for cash, regional games designed to cash in on nearby HAL teams etc

FFA might as well pick the number of Rounds they can fit in between the end and start of the Main Codes seasons and fudge it backwards from there.

Thought of another one.

Scheduling matches a year or more in advance in stadiums across the continent and across timezones to suit your paymaster, the fans, the players with conflicting ACL commitments, international fixtures, other codes to compete with plus concerts as well would be no easy task.

Given all of that my 'unpopular' opinion is the FFA do a pretty good job of match scheduling.

I would prefer a 20 team first division with no second division, than 2 divisions of ten teams (regardless of whether or not P&R existed). This is because financially, crowds will be bigger for first division matches, television rights will massively increase for first division matches (especially seeing there would now be 10 a week), and sponsorships for both those reasons would also drastically increase for every club. This extra income that every club would thus receive I feel would raise the standard of football to a far higher level than splitting the clubs between 2 divisions and competing for P&R. The extra money would allow clubs to import better players, keep better Aussie players, and spend more on coaching, facilities and the like (which wouldn't be happening to the same extent over 2 divisions due to reduced money). Having 10 first-division matches every week and 20 first division sides throughout Australia would also provide a saturation level that couldn't be matched, meaning more and more kids will grow up supporting the A-League, more and more articles will be written about the A-League (and thus in time again more money coming in to the clubs through sponsorship, viewers and gates; as well as likely improving our playing stock by encouraging more kids to grow up playing football).

i'm undecided about how many teams would be a good idea, but i mostly agree with this.

A competition with P/R with 10 or so teams in each will always see the lower league struggle. Being in Australia you will almost certainly see that lower league struggle to death because honestly, who would actually give a fuck about that 2nd division league? Seriously. Who would be following these teams and keeping it alive, let alone making it successful? Even if the lower league survived long enough to see those teams promoted to the top flight, they will just bring down the overall quality of the top league.

I'd rather just focus on developing and creating a very strong, very popular 18-20 team league and then working on things like P/R. Like working from the top, down. Instead of struggling from the ground, up and never quite achieving what we want.

Glad someone thinks like I do :d
