So Liverpool had a friendly last night, didn't realise it was on or I would have watched it. A 1-0 win over Tranmere.

It's good to see three of the young stars I've talked up impressed. Ejaria was said to possibly be man of the match, and he really impressed me following someone of the u18 games and higher.

They used two different teams for the halves, Firmino was said to butcher a few, but it's just the first game in.

Liverpool: Karius, Flanagan, Lovren, Matip, Smith, Brannagan, Lucas, Ejaria, Kent, Firmino, Mane.

Second half

Liverpool: Bogdan, Randall, Wisdom, Ilori, Moreno, Chirivella, Stewart, Alexander-Arnold, Markovic, Ings, Woodburn.

Alexander-Arnold is one of the other young players who I really rate. Apparently played RB a lot for u18's, but he really looks like a CM/RM type. He also got the assist for Ings. Probably a big statement, but he could be the next Gerrard (though some say Rossiter was). He's quick, passes and crosses well, and defends well.

Woodburn is the other one. He's in the mold of Owen too, but can pass well. Less of a pure striker, but hopefully he features in the cups. The scary thing is he only turns 17 in November.

Looks like Smith was the first choice LB too. No Balotelli, so I assume he will be sold given how many strikers we have. Benteke will probably be the same, and we'll possibly recruit another FW. Bogdan will be sold or loaned and Markovic I dare say as well. Wisdom sold or loaned.

Ilori has a contract until 2018, which nothing was said about. He's someone I really see as a gun defender of the future. Hopefully he gets over those early injury issues of last season. Got to see a bit of him in Portugal's u21/23 European Final run.

It probably means our CB stocks will stay the same (fullbacks too unless Moreno is sold). Sahko's case was also dismissed today I believe (Sahko, Lovren, Matip, Ilori, Gomez shows good CB depth). Blokes like Matip and Gomez can play multiple positions as well.

I'm hoping we sign Dahoud or one of those two young Croatian's or Neves. All are quality CM/DM's. It'll probably mean we have to sell Allen or someone else though (Henderson/Milner I would prefer to see gone).

This was Ejaria's performance. Didn't realise he was more of a midfielder because he can score a goal as well. Some say in the Viera/Toure/Pogba mold. So with guys like Alexander-Arnold and Ejaria we might be better off persisting with these young guys instead.

I knew the pre games were on being I check the lfc website weekly.
Haven't watched any of the game though - glad to hear Ings put in the winner, hope he avoids injury the coming season.
I'll have to check on the young uns your commenting on but I had heard Woodburn was promising.
Sure, nothing like promoting youth but we still need experienced players to steer the ship.
I wish for a strong imposing distributing CDM, maybe Can can develop into this role ?
I'm hoping Lovren keeps improving and with Matip become a sound solid combo - trouble is who steps in replacing them when needed, Sakho scares me, we lose Skrtl , this needs filling.
Gomez Clyne outside back walk ins imo.
I'm sure glad we have Karius - hope he steps up the plate.
Will be curious who we move on...

Watched the last half of the Tranmere game last night.
Obviously nothing OTT being first hit out, looked slow and Tranmere sat deep making attack difficult.
2 grab my eye for the wrong reason, Kloppy seems to like Moreno through last season whereas I don't think so, he proved again watching last night attacking down the line, over doing it then losing possession. Shift him.
Markovic, we loaned him out thankfully last season but looking like Klopp wants to see what he can do in front of him.
He did ok against Tram as I expect but no, shift him as well.

Near on Skrtel officially a Fenerbahce player.
Despite what people think, yep he lacked finnese but he had NO fear and I love that in front of our goals day in day out.
I will miss him but Thankyou the Beast Skrtel - YNWA.

We need a new left back most of all imo. Gomez was signed as a CB not an LB. I'd like to see someone with a bit more attacking impetus than clyne but more reliable in defence than Moreno. Sakho is a solid player but there is still a rosh that WADA will challenge his ban being rescinded. It could drag on... I'd also like to see a strong DM signed but with the business anyway done that would make for a busy summer...

Gomez was playing at LB most games prior to his injury mind you.
I expect our CB's will be Matip and Lovren - Sakho yes question mark regards to the case but back up at this stage I expect.
Clyne's Euro games showed again his willingness attacking the line and providing some good cross's.
We have Flanno, Smith wide backups but I expect Klopp will be looking to add another experienced defensive player.
All comes down to how many players they can move on - Balo will be shifted, Allen is another ? as well as more.
I agree mentioning we need a strong CDM.

Our 2nd trial game went well, 5nil against Fleetwood.
Serb Grujic scores on debut and played very well.
Woodburn scores.
Lucas 1 and Firmino 2.

You can see Klopp blooding in the young 'uns in ready for Cup games etc.

Were asking $32.5 for Benteke ? Palace and Hammers not interested.

Palace were interested, but the problem seems to be Benteke leaving.

In an ideal world we would get rid of Benteke, Balotelli, Ibe, Skrtel all in this window. I wouldn't mind if Lucas stayed but he could go also.

We NEED another LB. I thought we needed a CM as well but if Klopp wants to use Grujic then Grujic, Hendo, Can, Milner, Allen is fine with no European comp.

Perhaps another AM as well. But LB is the only integral signing I would say.

Your forgetting naming Gomez imno, can take any spot in defense, for me moreno's everyday.
Well, Grujic's first game was impressive at only 20yrs - lets hope he can perform when it counts week in week out.

Both LB's from the last couple of games are out, along with Grujic: Grujic is ruled out with a virus today while Moreno (neck) and Smith (groin) are missing as a precaution.

It looks like Flanagan to LB with Randall at RB, so those two will probably get close to the full games instead of the 45 minutes players have been playing.

Looking like Estonian Ragnar Klavan Klopp has identified the Estonian international as the man to come in and strengthen his central defensive options following injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez, and Tiago Ilori’s Olympic Games call-up.

Thirty-year-old Klavan has won more than 100 caps for his country, and has spent four years with Augsburg in the Bundesliga, helping the unfashionable club to qualify for the Europa League in 2014-15.

Friggin real shame so soon after recovering from the acl, I have/had high hopes for this young talent for this coming season.

You need defenders. I watched the Fleetwood game replay on Bein and they troubled your defence and were lucky not to score on 3 or 4 occasions.

Agree mate, don't forget these are warm ups, the squad is mixed up but you always expect better performance's.

I really don't know how to take this but I suppose we wait and see how he fits in Klopps game plans, he sure starred for the Toons. With better players around him and Klopps tactics he just may give us the unexpected.

Look he was never an LFC quality player and that's the truth. 6m pound is amazing value for him .

agree the dollars are a bonus but I don't agree he couldn't develop to what we require.
Moreno isn't either imo - I would have kept smith and punted moreno.
So what of Flanno being one of our own imno ? nothing flash either but plays for the shirt, I expect the injury has set him back possibly what they are seeing but looking to shift him, these are 2 who could develop being reliable/sound outside backs just saying.
