Saw Star Trek: Beyond tonight. Another solid Trek movie, I'd rate it better than Into Darkness. Idris Elba played an effective villian with a pretty good twist at the end. Only thing that shit me was the typically snarky "look-how-clever-we-are" writing and the strange convenience of an alien stranded on an as-yet unknown planet somehow knowing of and understanding English to engage in said dialogue

Apart from that I'll give it a solid Byzantine 7.5/10

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Saw Suicide Squad tonight.

http://screenrant.com/suicide-squad-studio-interference-warner-bros/

I read this before seeing it and it was pretty obvious that the movie was affected (detrimentally IMO).

There were moments that seemed out of sync and scenes that came across as very short with dialogue that was added for more humour. I think the reaction to BvS as being too dark (a ridiculous complaint made by morons) was taken aboard with much zeal with a lot of Deadshot's and Harley Quinn's dialogue sprinkled with humour and sarcasm that got annoying (despite Smith and Robbie doing it very well).

I swear the Joker was in it for less than 5 minutes. Scenes of him in the trailer were either completely cut or heavily cut down which was disappointing given it's the Joker and the fact that his scenes flew by to match with the fast-paced tone of the movie.

I thought Boomerang was good, Katana had good screen presence, Rick Flag was done well and Amanda Waller was done really well but again I thought they cut out some good character building/motivation time to try and make it as Marvel as possible.

If you're a DC fan, you'll like it and if you like nice, easy action/snazzy dialogue scenes complete with Margot Robbie's ass, you'll like it. But honestly the shit reviews don't surprise me.

I swear the movie was also devoid of any easter eggs apart from Batman's two appearances.

So yeah part confession. I haven't seen the Batman trilogy - Begins, Dark Knight, and Rises. Just found all 3 on Netflix, so I'm gonna give them a whirl. :)

pretty much agree with this it was one of the strangest movie experiences i had i think the fact that it was not R really hurt it because for example Boomerang did one mean thing the entire movie Jai was told to bring out his inner shitbag and he has one mean thing in the entire movie so its very strange i hope the next one will be R like deadpool

The Dark Knight is one of the greatest films ever brah.

Also hope you get to watch it on a decent TV/sound system, really worth it for Hanz.

They're all amazing Heiny.

I have a somewhat unpopular opinion in that I rate Begins & TDKR far higher than The Dark Knight but that's because how much those two offer to the actual trilogy as opposed to the very small amount TDK adds to the trilogy. But TDK is a superb stand-alone movie, arguably one of the best of the 2000s.

Batman Begins is actually one of my pick-me-up movies, that I'll watch if I'm in a rut and have nothing to do. Something about that movie brings me back to reality or something, I can't describe it. Batman Begins, Jurassic Park, D2, Remember the Titans, any episode of The Mighty Boosh or Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, and any Zac Effron or Will Smith movie. I can't explain it, but if I'm ever in a rut I chuck any of that list on and I feel instantly better afterwards  how's that for a range

See I did not like BvS at all, but I didnt think it was too dark.
What it was though was dark for no reason. It had no soul. It was ponderous.

Batman Begins is equally dark, but its story had substance and momentum.

So watched Batman Begins last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I have actually seen the first one - but way back in 2005. I was what, 13 maybe 14 then so yeah didn't remember seeing it. Forgot how many good actors were in there. So weird seeing Jack Gleeson in something other than Joffrey in GoT. Cillian Murphy gets me all sweaty and hot. Loved him in Peaky Blinders, and he's brilliant in everything I've seen him in. Cannot believe he's 40. Doesn't look a day over 23.
G
Must say, really enjoyed it. Michael Caine is brilliant as always, and his humour adds a good lightness to the movie when needed. Looking forward to TDK now. I know I've definitely not see that!

Also watched the Matrix Trilogy again the other night. I've always enjoyed the first movie, the second isn't too bad, and the third just crumbles with plot holes. Still not a bad trilogy. The twin brothers (Wachowskis) who made the movies, have both had sex changes and are now transgender females. True fact! That explains why Trinity is always clad in leather, and why there's so many leather based costumes. Also, that party scene in the third movie, along with the ridiculous amounts of leather and latex makes it feel like some form of PG BDSM bondage porno. Once again, fully understand how the Wachowskis wound up having sex changes. How did nobody see that coming!

Yep, just not the same with out a decent sound system, at least 5.1 surround. The difference it makes to the atmosphere of the movie is incredible, once you hear it you can never go back to just stereo, 2 channels etc

There are a few things that Suicide Squad does very well.

- It doesn't bend over backwards trying to set up other movies, just leaves little breadcrumbs here and there. A much better approach than BvS. Especially the mid-credits scene.
- Character design and costumes are spot on
- Holy shit did they do Amanda Waller justice, get Viola Davis involved in everything.
- Will Smith's best performance in years and definitely one of the best things about the movie
- Margot Robbie is a great Harley Quinn, even if some of the 'jokes' did fall a little flat.

Also very keen to see Batfleck up against this Joker.

Went to the cinemas twice in one week - a world record for someone with a toddler I bet

Saw the new Ghostbusters. I've read barely any reviews on it fyi. But I loved it. It was cheesy enough, didn't take itself seriously at all, and was the right amount of fun. Loved the references and cameos from all the old Ghostbusters too. I had a great time watching it!

Friday night one of my local cinemas was showing the 2001 movie Donnie Darko, apparently they're showing a "retro" movie every other Friday night or something. Have always absolutely loved DD and instantly jumped at the chance to see it on the big screen. Haven't re-watched it in a couple of years so it was an awesome refresh to watch it too. Man, I forgot how funny the movie was! Just so many little jokes in there that had me (and most of the PACKED cinema) just cackling  very keen to see if the cinema puts on other great movies like this. Holding out for Jurassic Park or D2!!!!!

Finally saw SS today and really enjoyed it. Bit spazzy on how quickly the whole plot of the city fight starts but they can be forgiven for zooming through.

First time I've been to the cinemas in months and saw the lineup of awesome stuff out soon like Reacher 2 and Doctor Strange.

Mad keen.

OK, I completely understand the hype around The Dark Knight, and Heath Ledgers performance. 8 years after it came out sure, but wow. I've never really been a superhero movie fan, and only kinda gotten into them, but I'm kicking myself I didn't get into the BB trilogy earlier. Better late than never, eh.
