Not making light of your situation but proper 'flu' is a fucking nightmare.

I had it about 7 or 8 years ago.  I weigh 84kgs and I'm 188cm.  I was pretty fit at the time and I lost 6 kgs and was sick for 4 weeks solid.  (By the end I looked like a concentration camp victim.)  Admitted to hospital twice only to be told it's viral and nothing could be done and was sent home.  During the time that flu did the rounds that year about 4 blokes aged 30-40 years died.

People were coughing so much they were breaking their ribs.  I was coughing so much I thought my sternum was going to come out of my chest and my ribs and back ached non-stop.  I couldn't walk to the mailbox without a rest halfway I was so out of breath.

Literally spent 4 weeks on the couch and in bed being barely able to move and waiting in agony for night to roll around so I could go to bed and get some sleep and stop coughing and gasping for air.

Ever since then I get the flu jab every year and so should everyone no matter how young you are.

The actual flu is a nightmare.  No wonder its killed millions in the past.  (And continues to do so.)

I have no doubt that if I live long enough and hit my 60's or 70's and get that again it will finish me off.

Insane. Mrs v4 had similar once but lasted for about 2.5 weeks, so not as long as yours. But she was in a terrible state. Luckily I've never had that, and the worst I've been knocked by manflu is for the best part of a week if that.

Have always and will always get my fluvax, without question. My workplace (private company, nothing public) sorts them out for all our workers for free, and I think that is one of the best things they could do ever IMO - I applaud them every year for sorting that for us.

I hate manflu. Spend the best part of a day or two in bed bingewatching some show that I've probably already watched and I've just gotta catch up on all the shit I miss afterwards

WGMG: first stages of manflu is evident. Sore throat, tummy sickness and head diziness. I fully expect my body to shut down within 48 hours, miss out on a pretty busy time at work, and cop a tonne of criticism from the mrs about "how much manflu is overplayed". Would rather avoid it altogether.

Heres something that the doctor never told anyone about how to combat (defend against) the flu in winter:

The sun!

Vitamin D Deficiency (from less sun) in winter is a cause which is neither confirmed or denied by experts

sunbathe topless in winter (the uv factor is 3) the front and the back (not just your arms and face) and you wont be getting a cold

Other benefits to the sun in winter - better mental health, and in the very least: no cold fingers and toes

I don't subscribe or deny any of the above but what I do find funny is this manflu has onset mere days after my first major sunburn since February

I had it bad about 4 years ago. I hadn't had a cold or flu since I'd finished high school so i was well and truly due.  The boss was on his honeymoon so i was in charge, the flu literally settled in after about 2 hours from first symptoms. The first 2 days i battled through then i couldn't keep anything down so i went to the docs. Just told to stay home and do all the regular things at home but had to work, well somehow i battled through 10 days of barely and food and drink doing manual labor for the boss to get back.  Bed ridden for another 3 weeks, i was overweight so i lost 9kg and ended up with a cough that lasted close to 6 months.
Thought i would get the fluvax the next year.  Within a week i was stuffed again.  Didn't get the flu for another 2 years and thought id get the vax again this year.  Just recovered from the flu after having it for 2 weeks. Will never get the vax again.

That's unreal about your reaction to the fluvax.  Your body must not like it.

Fortunately, or maybe through sheer arse, it seems to work for me.

I burn semi-easily but I have the "desirable" trait that within about a day or two after burning, it turns olive/brown/tanned for a good solid 2-3 weeks. Makes all the honeys jealous  but obviously doesn't address the fact that it's skin cells in trauma innit.

I'm not surprised I got burnt over the weekend. I spent the best part of 3 days in a lot of sun, uncharacteristically without a hat on.

One of the guys I work with refuses to get the work-subsidized fluvax each year because he claims he's never had one before, and if he started now he'd struggle with it for a few years. I've heard of multiple people who get sick instantly after getting the jab.

I'm like you though, never had any side effect, and avoided the major flu each year.

The flu vax only deals with 3 or 4 strains of the virus that has been identified from the northern hemisphere winter as being the most common or dangerous strains. You absolutely can still get the flu after having the vaccine but your risks are reduced.

But the sun is an interesting thing, theres people who burn to a crisp because they only see the sun for less than an hour a week (ie office workers), and then theres road workers, or people holding up signs from very early in the morning and theres no sunburn/ skin cancer for them

Anyway people getting the cold in summer and winter sees that the sun and the amount we get is a major factor

Yeah it sucks but i normally go many years without getting a cold however my wife gets the fluvax every year through work and she get the flu at least once a year and she always has terrible fever, cough etc. Although i so think it's a genetic thing. Her 3 sisters are always sick and her mother is walking (kinda) sack of fleshy illness.

Me complaining again...

WGMG: Fucking electrician finished off everything in the new house. We are mounting our tv on the wall so got it set up for all our cords to run inside the wall but the electrician insisted that the power point should be keep at ground level rather than behind the tv.
We've been told you cannot run power through the wall as it would void any insurance not to mention if we wanted to do that the plate that's been fitting would not fit the plug through and the cord doesnt come off at the tv end. So now have to get the filthy bastard to come in and put a point behind the tv which is annoying cause we wanted the point there in the first place!

Hey Scooby doo.

If you don't mind can you let me know what you are paying per square metre for your house.  (I don't need to know your entire build cost.)  Divide total house under roof cost including alfresco areas and garage by total GFA under roof.  I'm trying to budget my construction cost and am being told anywhere between $1100 - $1500 per square m.  Would be handy to know what others are actually paying.

Mates house was broken into by a bunch of maoris a couple of weeks ago. Police got I.D's of them from their neighbours security cameras.

The punishment is a fine and a suspended sentence. Like that's going to stop these parasites. Cut their hands off or shoot them.

$1,127 per square metre.
Weve just gone with a subsiduary of hamlan. actually got a really basic facade as the other ones we didn't like, ours is quite a small house but upgraded floorings, bathrooms, lighting and down graded the sizes of the stove etc. Who needs a 900mm oven! I think we've squeezed alot out of our money.
Should be in the house in 3 weeks!

Probably an emotional post but i'm so sick of people losing their valuables while at work because people are shit and would rather screw innocent people over than work.

Police are powerless and the people who make decisions on punishment for these kind of crimes are spineless and out of touch.

Cheers mate I've seen the video in the past. It's very confronting but i'm an unsympathetic asshole and it does not affect me.

As I said above it was an emotional post given how much good friends have lost and will never get back while the criminal gets away with a slap on the wrist. I was broken into a few years ago and felt completely helpless. They caught someone driving my car and that person only got a fine. Police told me not to go after them in a civil case as i'd get nothing because the scumbag would plead that they had a shit up bringing and get nothing. The fine was less than the excess I had to pay to fix the damage to my car and was less than the home/contents excess for damage to the house and loss of valuables. I lost a shit load of photos and my thesis.

I'll meet you half way. Can we settle on 10 lashings? ;)

Yeah that's fine.  Running the gauntlet should be brought back too.

These 2 animals that raped and killed a lady on a beach were in court at Grafton a couple of weeks ago.  They came out of court and were set upon by the family of the poor lady and got physically and verbally abused.

It was great.  No sympathy at all for these fucks.  The poor lass died from internal haemorrhaging such was the ferocity they raped her vagina before they left her for dead.

That disturbs me considerably. We shouldn't let these parasites even walk on the streets. Rape is one of the most invasive crimes in existence. I would not be able to cope with being a police officer finding a body matching the description in the article you linked.

Another shocking example of our weak judicial system:  Man Lashes out in Melbourne Court. What an absolute joke. We show no compassion to innocent asylum seekers and yet bend over backwards for violent criminals. The magistrate arrested a bloke for telling it how it is. No wonder people have no faith in our justice system.

WGMG: Library and senior floor have been evacuated and the MFS are here.

For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

WGMG: Currently renting privately and had a side fence that has needed replacing for 3 years but neighbor didn't want to and landlord had no balls so i had to keep doing hack jobs to keep it up.

Approximately 3 weeks before we move and the bastard next door decides to start pulling it down which he'd organised with our landlord but no one told us. Get home to our dog out the front, he's never been off lead outside of a secure area before.
Pretty fucking pissed and told it will be a week before a new fence will be up.
Also pretty sure the landlords brother had pressured the neighbor into getting the fence now cause it's his daughter moving in when we go.

Safe to say the landlord won't be getting any rent until she explains herself.

Wait, is that a thing? Are you allowed to do that?

I know next to nothing about the whole renting scene, but didn't know renters had that power.

They were lucky to get off light.
