New training photos out, Mills in them finally which is good to see. Was starting to worry he was another signing which fell through. Looking forward to seeing him play. If he's good he could be a massive asset to our club being able to play LB/LM.

Yes, sorry.
Showing my East Perth age, but it's been Perth Oval for over 100 years and that's what it'll always stay for me no matter who plonks their advertising on it.

Same with Subi Oval, don't actually even know what it's supposed to be called now.
Same goes for all the other foody grounds, Lathlain, Bassendean, Leederville, etc, I've no idea what names are what and where now.

Domain Stadium now

Glory 1-0 over WA State team last night. Harold the scorer just before half time. Pretty ordinary wet and windy conditions.

Rhys Williams played the full 90, Mills played the 2nd half at left back. No Taggart though.

Considering he hasn't played for 8 months (and been at the club for that long) you would hope he has no injury concerns. He getting a run in the NPL???

Did you go and did you get anything from watching the match? If so how did Mills look? From the brief highlights from the game he looked promising going forward. Having Risdon and Mills as wing backs with Grant, Lowy and Dino as a back 3 could work quite well.

Also what's going on with Thurtell? Is he focusing on training with the seniors and hence less available for the NPL side?

Looking forward to Tuesday. Hopefully I can get to go to the game, haven't been to a cup game yet.

Squads for today.

Good to see Taggart, Smiljanic and Mills in squad. Not sure what line up I'd go for but would like to see Mills from the start. Taggart to come on later in the game. And would like to see what Smiljanic can add to the team, will probably come on for Williams in the second half. Want to see more of Reiners and Petratos too. Concerned that Lowry isn't in the squad. Anyone know what's going on? Injured?

Perth Glory squad: 2.Alex Grant, 3.Marc Warren, 5.Rhys Williams, 6.Dino Djulbic, 8.Rostyn Griffiths, 9.Andy Keogh, 10.Nebojsa Marinkovic, 11.Richard Garcia, 13.Nick Feely (gk), 14.Chris Harold, 15.Brandon Wilson, 16.Joseph Mills, 18.Mitch Oxborrow, 19.Josh Risdon, 20.Aryn Williams, 21.Jamal Reiners, 22.Adam Taggart, 23.Kosta Petratos, 28.Joseph Knowles, 33.Liam Reddy (gk), 99.Milan Smiljanic

Sydney FC squad: 1.Vedran Janjetovic (gk), 2.Sebastian Ryall, 4.Alex Wilkinson, 5.Matthew Jurman, 6.Josh Brillante, 7.Michael Zullo, 8.Milos Dimitrijevic, 9.Bobo, 10.Milos Ninkovic, 11.Bernie Ibini, 12.Aaron Calver, 13.Brandon O’Neill, 17.David Carney, 18.Matt Simon, 19.George Blackwood, 20.Danny Vukovic (gk), 21.Filip Holosko, 23.Rhyan Grant, 24.Charles Lokoli Ngoy, 25.George Timotheou, 28.Nicola Kuleski, 29.Bai Antoniou

This is pretty much what I posted in the FFA Cup thread last night:

Taggart very poor - had a shocking night
Rhys Williams played full 120 and was best player on park
Glory struggled when Griffiths went off.
Mills is excellent - quick, hard and skilful. We have got a good one here and will be one of the signings of the season.
Reddy is a dickhead - completely lost it late in the game when Brandon Wilson passed ball back to him when Reddy thought he should have turned - called Wilson a f#cking c#nt at top of his voice. Plus he flaps.
Keogh still off the pace a bit
Harold not fit enough
Knowles not good enough

Warren was a piss poor replacement for Risdon at RB - at fault for first goal and lucky not to have cost at least another one. Risdon better play in at least one of the WC qualifiers.

Can't see Djulbic being first choice if R.Williams, Lowry and Grant are fit.

Smiljanic didn't really impose himself on the game and was less effective than Griffiths as a holding midfielder.  Reminded me a bit of early Sandor performances so hopefully he warms into it in the same way.

For Sydney - Bobo showed some nice touches, Holosko and Ninkovic were different players from last time I saw them in Perth. Vukovic didn't inspire confidence (but would still rather him than Reddy), Simon was shit as usual but with Brosque and Bobo he shouldn't get much of a look in barring injury, O'Neill was ok without being great. Carney bossed.

Perth looked underdone and lacked the sort of cohesiveness that comes from playing games. Sydney looked good and broke quickly in transition but otherwise a bit one dimensional.

Given the relative squads tonight, the better team probably won but I think Perth has much more room for improvement.

Excited for Mills. Like I mentioned before the state game highlights with the glimpses of him were promising. Also stoked that Williams was a stand out. Williams, Mills and Griffiths will be important for us. Great signings.

Reddy sounds toxic. Hopefully Thurtell can be given a chance sometime this season. Would be thrilled if he had a breakout season. For him and for fking Reddy right off. Don't see it happening though.

Lowry and Grant were immense last season as a pairing. Only way I can see fitting all them with Dino is by having a back 3 of Grant, Lowry, Dino with Griffiths and Williams in front - Mills/Risdon as wing backs. But if Smil improves could be better to have Grant - Lowry - Williams.

Excellent round up, Biscuitman.

Thanks.

Only saw the extra time.

I'm concerned in your appraisal of Taggart. From a national team perspective, we really need him to keep progressing. We are short on decent finishers. How did Glory accommodate he and Keogh in the same team?

For the Socceroos Williams was easily outmuscled as a CB in 1v1s and struggled in this position.

As a Socceroo RB he was similar quality to Wilkshire and North. He was more comfortable in this position than CB. As a CB Williams  appeared to have good recovery if beaten, had  speed over the turf and also displayed good distribution.

I think the HAL could really suit his game.

At the same timeI  I think Oz fans have overrated him if his Socceroo performances are appraised dispassionately. Apparently, he also plays DM as well. ATM, he could be a candidate  for Socceroo RB, where there is no established incumbent.

Glory seems to have an embarrassment of riches at CB - Lowry, Djublic, Williams and Grant.

Djublic is brilliant at defensive and attacking set pieces in aerial contests.

Shane Lowry is going to miss the two opening rounds. The classic 'two weeks' so could be more.

Dino or Williams as right CB? I'd prefer to see Williams and have Griffiths as the DM.

Not as though filling an injury in defence will be a big problem this season.

Would be nice to have Lowry.

My guess is the Bitch.

Dino will be in the line up. Would either like Williams screening the defense in a 442 diamond or williams in the middle with Dino on the right in a 3-5-2. Think Risdon and Mills are good enough to work in that system.

Talk of them playing attacking which is good, but also read that they have been working on a 433. Not sure if this is a bum steer or not but can't really see how they'd work it with Keogh and Taggart. Read a rumour that they weren't getting along because he was playing second fiddle to Keogh in their plans so maybe they are tinkering with the formation and have Taggart on the wing serving Keogh or on the bench.

Haven't heard or seen anything about Mills having an injury. Thought he looked really good pre-season, and was expecting him to have a huge year for us.
Unfortunately last week's squad list gave 18 players, 2 to be omitted, and no-one unavailable. Really?
Wouldn't mind if they went back to what they've always done - name every man and his dog in the squad less number to be omitted = 16, but at least give us some idea of who is unavailable.
We do know that Lowry has his 'Foxe' injury, so was out for 2 weeks.
Now that 1 week has been wiped off that, expect he'll now be out for 2 weeks again.
But yeah, would be handy to know who definitely is injured and unavailable in our squad.

With Mills as an in he must have gotten a knock in training. Would expect Warren to start again this weekend but I would like to see Mills start if fit. Excited about him too. Seeing him and Castro down the left I think will bring some joy this season.

Need to get the 3 points here with two games away to Brisbane and City next.

Wilson has been a great pick up.
Much better pick up than Griffiths. He is going to miss a few games through suspension this year and reminds me about of burns.

Be great when grant or lowry can play and we can push Rhys up for when Griffiths is suspended.

I asked him when he's gonna be back on Sunday and he said "hopefully real soon" lol he wouldn't give anything away.

So definitely only "2 weeks" away then.

A-league website in the ins and outs article says that Taggart will be out for 1 week with calf injury. Jamal Reiners as an in.
