+x+xOT Do you have a link for your quote e]Rugby has been mentioned, but the elephant in the room is football where according to Telstra:‘An estimated 700 million viewers worldwide tuned in on Saturday night to witness a historical win for the Socceroos at ANZ Stadium…. High definition live-to-air feeds soared through to national and international broadcast networks such as Fox Sports, Fox International Channels, ABC, CCTV in China, Sony SIX in India and Eurosport so viewers from across the world could watch the tournament live.’One is surprised that such a significant international footprint was and is not taken more seriously. When speaking with an NRL person with marketing knowledge (in addition to AFL), he was simply unable to compute the above, like a mental blockage i.e. never considered. It may also signal to the AFL and NRL commissioners and marketing people that they would not want to be too parochial aka football, but maybe cooperate….. most A-League supporters also have AFL/NRL teams, while football players grew up with AFL/NRL; there is a big wide world and audience out there…. http://theconversation.com/afl-and-nrl-grand-final-tv-ratings-show-codes-still-rely-on-their-traditional-heartlands-66485
You have to dig into the comments appears to be sourced from Telstra, 2 years ago. https://exchange.telstra.com.au/2015/02/05/connecting-the-globe-to-a-moment-in-australian-football-history/ An estimated 700 million viewers worldwide tuned in on Saturday night to witness a historical win for the Socceroos at ANZ StadiumANZ Stadium. Do you know how millions of people from across the globe were able to see Korea level the score in the 91st minute? It’s been a very exciting time at Telstra to be involved in this sporting high – thanks to our Digital Video Network (DVN)2 , multiple live itinerant transmission feeds, carried from each of the five Aussie venues – that connected viewers from around the world during the 20 days of the tournament.

+xRatings have been phenomenal this week! Well, they have returned to a level last reached three seasons ago (for an opening round), after last year's absolutely disastrous opening round ratings. But phenomenal? Well, put it this way, some five weeks ago, an exhibition womens game of football got average national ratings of 746,000 - that's one game. A whole round of A-League games, on both FTA and Fox, in total, fell well, well short of that figure - the opening round no less, when there was nothing else on. So personally, I would not use the word "phenomenal". You might describe them more accurately as: "better than last year".

And yet the AFL still treats their darling women as second class citizens by not including basic health insurance as part of their player registration. Also, any thoughts on the Brownlow medal being tainted by players who have taken drugs, performance enhancing (Watson) and recreational (Swan)?

If not, fuck off to the eggball thread, olive balls.
Is Wellington diverse? Dont know, however this is a club that has no historical or existing link to a specific migrant group - Rusty Einstein
The negative stereotypes are perpetuated by people who either have no idea or are serving a vested interest; neither viewpoint should get anywhere near running Australian football - Ange Postecoglou

The A-league had the best opening round Fox aggregate in 4 years - thats a top effort by any measure. The AFL womens exhibition game was heavily promoted for weeks beforehand and on a weekend night where it pretty much sat by itself - and in prime time on a commercial channel.

+xIs that good? I was hoping for better.... no idea if that includes regional ratings but with FOX ratings to be added on that it is about what most were expecting. UPDATE: 356k metro (Syd 112k, Mel 115k, Bri 65k, Ade 39k, Per 26k) Fox- 227k TOTAL = 583K + Regionals to come. SOCCEROOS – WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS -PRE GAME 9GO! - 168,000 LIVE: FOOTBALL: WCQ: POST GAME FOX SPORTS 4 - 99,000 LIVE: FOOTBALL: WCQ: PRE GAME FOX SPORTS 4 - 59,000 Thats not bad for a game of sokkah.

AzzaMVFC was on the money with the FTA side. FOX rated pretty well too. Does anyone have the rating for the last time we played them (brisbane i think) Would be interesting to know if it went ip or down, considering i dont think it was on FTA 4 years ago. Overal pretty happy with those numbers

I find the FTA figure very disappointing but not surprising My reading of the Tea Leafs, is we need a FTA broadcaster partner more than a broadcaster. There was as is often the case, little build up to the game, consider SOO and NRL & AFL finals and often normal games there is heaps of essentially promotion by way of articles and co promotions ... 9 on the weekend and Monday had Football as their third or fourth discussion which I found rather strange.... another example a suppose Football journalist used work for SBS and moved to Fox, wrote an article on the Roar on Monday about FFA failure on flares... the day before a massive Socceroo match and people are writing about flares and FFA not being in control thus inviting heaps of non football folk in to stir up the pot. The Tea Leafs tell me to stay away from 7 in particular and 9, and hope 10 will show on channel 1..... channel 1 is easy to explain and find .. I have no doubt if the build up in the various media platforms was about the history of this match and Football in Asia and as a collective we can stop complaining about everything and how bad FFA are and lets sack Gallop, and how hopeless some of the club owners are, and simply just start taking about the game and build it up.... these matches could break ratings records. We again as a collective have this insane habit that once things start to look half OK, we go into overdrive wanting valet service to games along with 3 course meals. Missing from this game was pre build up on Football, what a success it was, and lots of pregame talk. Instead we got endless articles about FIFA about to tear FFA apart, the urgent need to introduce P & R, and the more urgent need to put the clubs in charge and let people like the Barkies, Tony Sage, Mike Charlesworth the Nux NZ mob etc be in charge. I just find it sad we can't learn from 60 years experience, .... learn how to develop and promote our key moments,.... and simply understand its kinda everybody's job in a way much like the build up to SOO or an NRL or AFL grand Final...

Overal pretty happy with those numbers I wonder if Nine see it as a positive and how it stacks up with other sports they've shown on Gem. Also it's less than what SBS rated last time we played Japan, however the public knew months before it would be on SBS. Thought the Fox ratings were pretty good.
