Belteky just did an in depth radio interview on local ABC radio after appearing on local TV this week.

The interviewer asked some good questions. Belteky answered them well and often asked the interviewer to be more specific.

* Regarding the feeder area of  bids, Belteky claimed other bids had similar catchment areas, like Sydney's southern shire. Belteky quoted the total population of Tasmania being 600 000, whilst Hobart had 200 000.

* The interviewer asked him why Tassie  had any chance of success when Gold Coast's and Townsville's HAL teams failed with a similar population/catchment area?

Belteky responded that the Tasmanian sporting culture from the crowds who supported;

 HAL practice games 7- 8 000;

AFL games 15 - 20 000;

 BBL crowds 12 -18 000;

 indicated a different level of generic sporting live spectator support compared to those other two regional areas. He conservatively predicted  regular crowds of 6 - 8 000, possibly more like 8 -10 000.

In Hobart HAL practice games have drawn circa 7 - 8 000 with little advertising and media publicity. In Launceston similar size HAL crowds have had much better tabloid support.

* Belteky said Tasmania FC intended to be perceived as a community club with local support from all NPL clubs and the rest of suburban and country clubs. He also wanted to see an interchange in coaching with youth development programs.

* Belteky also said they intended to set up a W League team as well. Also, a youth team to play into local NPL was a certainty.

* Belteky advanced that BBL occurs for only a month and was a welcome addition to the sporting landscape, not a competitor. He argued that Tasmania FC would play over a 9 month plus season with inclusion of the FFA Cup.

*  A marquee player was a certainty for Tasmania FC. He stipulated it had to be a recognisable name, who performed, like ADP - not a marquee with a big name who was past it, like Romario, Mario Jardel, etc.

* Belteky perceived Tasmania FC as a unifying entity for all other Tasmanian NPL and suburban clubs.

* As expected Belteky said that there was no on ground, rival football code playing aina national competition  that gave Tasmania FC an advantage over any other bids.

* According to Belteky meetings with state Premier,  Will Hodgman, had been very constructive, also saying the Tasmania FC bid needed no govt money.

I was quite blown out with the professionalism and preparedness of the bid!

No talk of a rectangular stadium?
Otherwise little he said is compelling enough IMO.

I too would like to hear if he said anything in regards to stadia but at the same time it more than likely would be a rehash of the press release the other day.

Those numbers can be sustained as a limited number of games are played down in Tasmania every year. Much like BBL, Origin, and our derbies, scarcity is the reason they are valuable - it does not happen often.

If you extend the number of games to 13/14 over a period six months what would most likely happen would be dip below that 7-8000 crowd figure. As games become more common, the less likely they'll be viewed as something "special".

True but people build affliation. Long term view is what they should be looking at. 7-10,000 crowds are fine as long as the stadium is appropriate. No more giant stadiums.

Something like edensor park in my opinion would be perfect for Tassie. Obviously all seater, no grass hills,12-14000capacity. Single tier on three sides with a second tier on the corporate/media side but leaving the option for a second tier on the other side in the future.

Australian players will be developed locally through a club pathway.

After they averaged 15k in a rectangle first. Cough cough olympic park.

You need the best board and the very very best coach.
Learn from the failings of others.
Marquees are rubbish doing well in the league keeps bums on seats.
There is so much to learn from those who failed.
Better if the board has more professionalism than passion.
Set the board set the coach instructions to win .

Olympic park may have been marginally smaller.

I suspect soccer pitches that are surrounded by athletic tracks are more acceptable than ovals because Europe

Soccer only fans also don't like all grass ovals because they don't like to be reminded

A book I have says this:-

"To accommodate these different uses, it is important not to change the stadium to an extent that has a negative impact on its primary purpose for football. For example, making the pitch considerably larger for another sport or adding a running track around the field can result in football spectators being much further from the playing field and removed from the action. This reduces their sense of involvement and engagement with the game and diminishes their excitement.

Pressure is often put on stadium developers to increase the field size or to include a running track.  Occasionally, such requirements are unavoidable. Unfortunately, this will result in a much less successful facility than a football stadium that is specifically built around the football field’s dimensions.
....
Perhaps the largest cities of the world, with very large budgets and the objective of hosting the Olympic Games one day, might be capable of satisfying the needs of football and athletics. For most, however, surrounding a football field with a running track in a modern stadium should be avoided."

I reckon the people who wrote that might know a bit about what is good for the game.

Lol Olympic park shat on Etihad because the terraces were steep and it was blatantly easier to see, it's nothing to do with culture.

Doesn't matter if they have 6-8K crowds as long as they are sustainable for them in terms of the stadium deal. If that's the case then they need to work strategically with Fox to ensure the majority of fans are in the camera screen area as having empty seats on TV makes the game much less entertaining.

Not every new club is going to come in with a WSW style support. Having a few smaller clubs would be great for the league though I suspect FFA might be more concerned about having big blockbuster games manufactured and might go for their tried and tested Derby creating expansion.

That's good gyfox. Athletics tracks are not ideal as aren't Australian football / crickey ovals

My point relates to the imagined difference between pitches surrounded by grass rather than athletics tracks

An 8 lane athletics track can be fitted in a width, fence to fence, of about 105m which is way better than a cricket ground/AFL ground of 130m to 150m.  Provision for jumping events can make the width requirement greater so it really depends on the layout as to whether it is "better than or equal to" a cricket/AFL oval.  Even the 105m width layout is significantly worse then a rectangular pitch stadium.

Which was oval shaped athletics stadium. The hint is in the name.

Seriously, I know you have your argument style that has made you a joke around here, but trying to strawman actual shapes into other shapes is just a whole new level of deluded.

I'm not sure any board would ask for anything else from their coach?

Having said this, I'm not sure what the CCM board's instructions were to Tony Walmsley?

Krones, IMO, I thought Fury were a success in terms of playing and drawing crowds. If the franchise was deemed a failure by FFA it  must have been the bean counters.  Fury games appeared to have a good atmosphere on TV. Conversely, Palmer's Gold Coast games had an awful atmosphere.

I was impressed in the interview that  Stamoulis/Belteky's bid seemed to have all bases covered.

No some blame development for poor results and poor coaching.
Crowds were always week. Fell to 2000-3000 as results fell.
They tried everything except winning.
Cowboys are a classic losing crowds7000 winning crowds 21000.
As well as a professional board and a great coach give away thousands of shirts not Footballs. Shirts are worn everywhere balls are only in backyards and fields.
