See, putting this down to "bantz" doesn't float with me.

Sex, Sexuality and Race are out of bounds. It's mind boggling that these days people don't get that.

Why not make a giant Whinging Arnie Tifo?
Nope the RBB went for the standard homophobic "Hahahah SFC is ghey" that they are known for.

What is it with the RBB and the north terrace and so many of these active fan groups that they often go to the lowest levels to express their emotions. It seems to me that they are run or largely populated by people who think they are above the law and can say or display anything they want no matter how offensive. It's a problem for familes who want to go to the football to wtch the game and don't want to have to put up with offensive imagery and chanting. Look, I reckon the chanting and singing is great, but really there's no need for the chants to contain any swear words and there's no need for the tifo's or banners  to contain any sexually offensive images. Football is for all of society to enjoy, not just the active support groups.

Have to agree...there are better ways to get up your rivals and their supporters than creating something that can be construed as homophobic, sexist, racist etc...

Subtle yet poignant would have been a better approach by the RBB...tact is certainly not a strong point of some of these fan groups lets be honest about that...

The pussification of society is in full swing. Lets get offended and demand justice over everything

Been living in a far left city in US the past few years and the whole PC thing over here is outright cancerous. Sad to see it's making (though at much slower rate) its way to Aus too.

Here's a challenge for anyone in the RBB who thinks it isn't serious -

Why don't you get the video of it, take it down to the local playground and show it to a bunch of kids?

I'm sure if you did that you'd be on the sex offenders register by lunchtime tomorrow. But apparently if it's a football game, you can show it to 40,000 families and kids and complaining about it is "political correctness".

The RBB need to actually grow up. They are obviously run by a bunch of homophobic juveniles who have no self-awareness whatsoever.

what about all the people calling wanderers fans wogs? honestly that doesnt bother me at all considering how extremely white i am but its fairly normal to call us wogs or middle easterners

I haven't heard anyone say anything of the sort at a game. Would be pretty hypocritical too given Sydney's fan base is hardly 100% anglo saxon.

I assume you are referring to some of the comments on this forum over the years, e.g the RBB are a ISIS recruiting agency or whatever, similar to how Sydney gets called Hakoah. I always viewed such comments as ironic in nature, more having a dig at genuine racism towards our game in the media.

What about when Tony Pignata, a CEO of an A-league club calls a club and its fans TARDS or "RETARDS", not as abhorrent apparently and still in common use by the supporters of the club. The only thing that pisses me off more than our own ignorant supporters are those who are being self-righteous and hypocritical.

I didn't find the banner offensive, but i'm a straight male and don't tend to be offended for other people.
I do think it was out of place and a stupid thing to do.
I do think WSW should be punished, i would make them play their next home ground in an empty stadium.
I did also laugh when i saw it.

Pro/rel would fix this. 😂

Well FFA needing a backbone to administer any punishment first that would threaten relegation would sort it out.

Wanderers hit with show-cause over offensive banner

Western Sydney have been hit with a show-cause notice over their fans' homophobic Sydney derby banner that has prompted Sydney FC to request an apology on behalf of coach Graham Arnold and his family.

The offensive banner display, depicting a blue-faced man resembling Arnold performing oral sex, was put up at ANZ Stadium in the area used by the Red and Black Bloc - a Wanderers' supporter group - during their 1-0 win on Saturday night.

The Wanderers say they're committed to providing a family-friendly environment at games.

In a statement on Monday, the A-League club said it doesn't want misbehaving fans at their games and Santalab says they want to focus on a nice family environment.

The banner is stepping over the line. All the good work done by the club is undone by fools, very frustrating.

Just ban the active fans for a match. The club should reimburse their membership for that game. If they want to buy a ticket in a different part of the stadium for the next home match, they should be allowed to. Problem is the club and especially the FFA don't have the balls to do it. It's not the clubs fault we have a small percentage of dickhead fans who are socially inept.

Bingo

Also you can't say anything... they call that Mansplaining

Not quite.

Mansplaining is being male and providing a counter-point to their opinions using data, facts and logic. All of these are tools of the patriarchy.

There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

This one is a matter of opinion.

Personally I think it inappropriate but hardly homophobic.

About 5 years ago we had a banner in our stands celebrating a cop killer. That is offensive. It wasn't the clubs fault.

Same thing with " refugees welcome", some people would see this just as offensive as banner at the Collingwood match.

2 guys held up a "refugees welcome banner" during one of our matches and got it torn down and were in an altercation. Because politics doesn't belong inside the stadium. I agree with this opinion.

I don't think FFA had to make such a big deal out of this and just quoted "we will work with WSW to resolve this matter" and hand down the same punishment they will receive anyway. They only help to sensationalize it further.

A handy distraction for FFA though.

For economics sake it may be better for FFA if WSW don't get a points deduction. An potential play offs match vs Sydney is money in the bank.

True, but the club has the ability to impose restrictions on the active supporters and have a responsibility to the fans that enter the ground. It's a small group of supporters at fault but it's the club that suffers.

So what is the word on Sydney Fc? Will the FFA be giving them a show of cause for the broken chairs, throwing sausage rolls, projectiles etc. Awfully quiet.

Also that incident with a Sydney Fc player stomping on the WSW players hand caught on camera.

And the club's response to the incident has been inadequate. By Sunday afternoon they should have made a statement condemning the incident and been on the phone to Arnie to apologise.

The former should be dealt with but I am not sure the later was deliberate from the very brief bit of vision I have seen.

Why should they call him? Release a statement on their website at most.

You would hope so, the stomping looked clear cut to me. No need for that player to be anywhere the player on the ground.
