What an opening session from australia

this pitch looks like it will collapse by day three. If we bat 150 overs the trophy is ours surely

I forgot this was on, IDIOT.

Smith, Warner and Wade seem to have done well or better while the rest have failed.

1 century and two half centuries usually means 350 odd but the rest of the team have failed to get any runs.....

getting a run out really hurt us

Lets hope this is a par score...you never know until both teams have batted

Missed yesterday's play.

Just hope 300 is enough on what has been described as a decent pitch.

Unfortunately, Smith's success has been marred by lack of consistency in most of the rest of the team's batting. It seems funny a guy initially chosen as a leg spinner  for Australia's Test team now has an average of 60, which is rare in Test cricket.

Don't know whether other posters know, but Cricinfo has some good analysis of international games including this one.

Smith has been brilliant, it has not been the easiest of batting especially in the first two tests but he has dominated. Playing number 3 in India has been perfect. It will be interesting to see if he stays there on more pace friendly pitches.

Should we have gone in with three fast bowlers? The pitch has a fair bit of bounce with the new ball. Cummins and Hazlewood have bowled with fire.

I am amazed Ashwin is batting ahead of Saha. Saha has been in great form now for almost a year, in his last 14 test matches including the tour of West Indies in July last year he is averaging over 47 with 3 centuries.

Australia were 4/168, India 4/167. However Saha, Jadeja, Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav are better batsmen than Wade, Cummins, O'Keefe and Lyon.

Missed most of it as I was doing something else. Saw Lyon's last wicket and the replays. Impressive stint of finger spin bowling with Lyon extracting bounce.

such a shame we had them on their knees yesterday then renshaw drops a catch....Even still a 30 run deficit should have been converted into a winning position

The outcome doesn't look good tomorrow.

I was surprised by their fire of the Indian pace attack.

Unfortunately, yes they are favourites. It has been a good series tough.

Lots of positives to take away from the series, especially with the ball. O'Keefe has given Lyon a real scare as the first choice spinner in the team, and has made Lyon bowl better. Cummins returning is also a boon - poor old Jackson Bird must feel unlucky but he also bowled well in the tour games.

With the bat - Renshaw showed some ticker at various points, which is what we want, but wasn't consistent enough. He will improve big time from this experience. Warner showed that he is a flat track bully in red ball cricket - he cashes in at home but struggles when it moves sideways.

Smith was outstanding and proved himself to be the world's best current batsman, but too often he carried the team without support. Without his hundreds we would not have gone far.

Handscomb struggled but will be better for the experience, and his catching at bad bat is very useful. He should be retained. He and Marsh played well to save the third test.

Apart from one innings Shaun Marsh once again did not deliver. He was said to have a superior technique for Indian conditions, but he fell over as much as the rest. This series showed us the truth - he is still an overhyped, below average red ball cricketer who gets out in dumb ways early in his innings. Nothing has changed in ten years. I struggle to see why it was worth picking him when you could have given Khawaja valuable experience, but I guess the question can finally be put to bed now that he had a whole series to prove himself (and didn't).

As for the all rounder spot - it only took one game for Maxwell to show the value of picking someone at number six who can actually bat there. He proved me wrong with his temperament and played an excellent knock. Although not really used, his off spin could be handy to take pressure off the other bowlers.

Mitchell Marsh now has a first class batting average below 30. Smith barely gave him a bowl in the series - probably (because he was injured). He didn't do much bowling in Australia, which begs the question - what's the point?

Wade kept better but still made some errors. His batting is all over the shop. Give him another series if need be, but if he doesn't come good we should go back to Nevill.

Sad thingis I think we wouldhave won with a better team

Neville in for wade
Maxwell in for marsh the whole series

Marsh was somewhat vindicated with two nice knocks

Agree with those two changes.

Maxwell's batting and fielding were a pleasant surprise. I don't know what you thought, but his batting footwork looked a lot more nimble than the heavy footed, lumbering Marsh.
