While a laudable aim, there will be no P&R in Australia for at least 17 years.  The current HAL teams excluding WP have had their licences extended until 2034.  So the only PR could be attached to new entrants, an extremely unlikely scenario.   Just stop.  Please, wasting your time "howling at the moon".

http://leopoldmethod.com.au/the-restlessness-of-the-aspirationals/

Gallop is without a doubt the best sports administrator in Australia.  We are lucky to have him just look at the dross in charge of AFL and NRL if you want a reference point.  He may not do what many here want him to do.  No surprise really and extremely well summed up in the ignorance of Dawdle (no offence intended mate) on what a Board does and what management does for sports administrator roles.

Its OK for sports pundits and NT coaches as well to talk big from their positions of safety to curry popularity and attention.  They are like the Greens, they can throw bombs and barbs and appeal to nearly everyone in the confidence that they will never have to deliver a single one of their promises.

Just a minor point my understanding of the 20 year licence is they were signed with a clause that said P & R if introduced would include them ... the kicker for want of a better word is that they can only go down one division and requires only two divisions.

On another issue I seriously believe we are within touching of a major bump.

Also on sports management, if anyone cares to analysis of new leagues there history is bump to a level, steady off, fall a little, then slow growth, then bump ...there is not a linear  growth line with a set percentage each year .... the same applies to many or most start ups..

Gallop is without a doubt the best sports administrator in Australia.  We are lucky to have him just look at the dross in charge of AFL and NRL if you want a reference point.

The AFL guy stumbles from one disaster to another and so does the NRL guy.  Both are reactionary, try and cover up poor player behaviour (spectacularly poorly so in the AFL case with covered up player drugs scandals emerging left and right).

In order to be the best you just have to beat the competition.  Where are the same scandals and administrative failures dogging Gallop?  His worst crime is the brinkmanship over the new player deal that stuffed up last years season launch and cost us key momentum.  In my view that problem was caused by the players being let down by their previous management compounding the problems.  But you cant win for losing.  Gallops deputy (De Bohn) let him down and was punted, but the buck stops with Gallop.  This forum wants the FFA and him to spend money that doesnt exist, now!  In the real world with grown ups and real money that doesn't happen.  But gnash your teeth and throw stones.  I notice people only touch on peripheral points rather than the substance of my posts which is the money isnt there for all these grand plans and we will have to grow as we can afford it. like everyone else does.

I knew I would get no fans for the post, relatively, supporting Gallop or the one about PR but both are factually accurate if you are willing to take your blinkers off and look at the facts objectively.

Having said that I think one of the key issues facing the game in Australia is the reform required of the FFA Board.  I despise nepotism and thats what we have.  Even FIFA supports reforming the FFA board election processes.

On a side note.  I really hoped we might win the 2018 or 2022 WC when I joined this forum in 2009.  It seemed a good chance as our only really credible opposition (Japan & Korea) had hosted the WC only a short time before.  We know how that ended...Hence my name changing to WC1day.

The scandals have nothing to do with whoever is in charge mate.

A national FTA metro rating of 26k is shockingly low.

You would be hard pressed to find any other program broadcast at any time on Friday that got a rating as low as that, maybe the infomercials which run in the middle of the night, but even then....

Tottenham v Watford is on SBS right now, directly overlapping with the two A-League games on Foxtel. It will be interesting to compare the ratings...

TV Ratings for Saturday football:

- Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC: 49,000
- WSW v Melbourne Victory: 49,000
- Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar: 34,000
- Tottenham Hotspur v Watford: 88,000

So once again the EPL outrates the A-League, and this time it was particularly interesting because the Spurs v Watford game was directly clashing with Glory v Roar.
And if we're going to be doing some comparisons, it should be worth pointing out the following:
- The Super Rugby games got 53,000 and 48,000, so they're in exactly the same ball park. Two A-League games got better ratings, and I'm sure that the third would have too if the EPL didn't clash with it.
- The Spurs v Watford game outrated the North v Giants AFL game in Sydney.

So whilst we may complain about low audiences, we're doing comparatively better than other sports that aren't AFL and NRL, AND it's clear that the A-League fixture fatigue is the problem, not the fact that people don't want to watch football. SBS are probably the happiest about all this, since their weekly EPL games are often pulling in their best ratings of the week. It makes me wonder what it would be like if Optus had given a weekly game to somebody like NINE or TEN and had them broadcast it on their main HD channel (which sees a much bigger average audience than SBS, regardless of the program). Definitely food for thought...

@ Holding Bid

Good analysis. And the Glory/Roar attendance is right where you'd expect it finishing at midnight on the east coast so it's not been affected by EPL on SBS. This suggests there's two distinct viewers - epl only and the Hal.

In reality the SBS rating is poor.
Comparing fta with pay tv ,shows SBS can barely double pay tv ratings ,which is poor.
Lets not forget when HAL first appeared on SBS in HD it rated better than 88k most of the time.So no ,epl is not rating that well.We are talking a lot of fan fare for something on a comfortable sat evening not doing any better than HAL before FFA shafted SBS and SBS shafted HAL straight back.

Although City is still a contender to at least make the grand final, and we had the FFA's marquee man scoring the only goal of the game.

Much excitement and intrigue.

I have to say all these ratings have proved what i used to refuse to believe. It does not matter what channel we are on. The game will rate what it rates.

I tried watching tjis game on friday. I really tried. But i just couldnt care. And by the looks of the ratings neither did a lot of othwr football people.

The day we start to worry about the game (product) over the channel (worth) is the day things will start changing.

That is why so many arw arguing for expansion, rel/pro, 2nd teir, new structure.....etc.

Because the whole product is very dull and very over rated.

If that game was on ten or one, it would have rated the same just like the NBL used to rate on ten. Very poor.

Forget the channel. Gallop and co need to worry about the game. Once that is right, the eye-balls will follow which ever channel the football is on

Serious question ... do you want to know why I am so confident ... as the answer actually looks at an analyses what FFA have researched and what FFA have done ...

Further it uses existing business models of technology take up, combined with human behavioural models.

So first it is going to credit FFA with some things they have done in the past, second it uses essentially business models that are used to predict future trends.

Meaning its a bit of an effort to do... which I don't mind doing but not for someone who already has a closed mind and thinks if we start P & R tomorrow ... all the children will join hands and gladly show the world how great we are leading to an out flowing of support and by simply   introducing P & R everything will be sunshine, lolly pops and sugar coated lemon drops.

So is it a serious ask with an open mind ...

Really, So you think that's a relevant post by someone wanting to discuss football? It's another irrelevant post by an AFL supporter probably paid to disrupt football related topics. As Toldyaso points out, "at least it's true", which is correct but it doesn't make the post relevant or interesting. It's not as if the said poster highlights good viewing figures on the rare occasion they occur.

If the Mods and publishers of this site are irritated to tolerate this that's fine, but I don't think their readers are which is why we have a diminishing pool of posters. It's their call but if they continue to tolerate it they'll have fewer and fewer people engaging.

The Friday game made the top 10 and two of the Saturday games rated better than it despite not making the top 20. Some of the AFL games were barely nudging 100k.

The regular season is over and with no promotion and relegation and a generous finals grouping there isn't a lot riding on games and there hasn't really been for a good many weeks.

We could bury our heads in the sand and pretend the ratings are better, I suppose.  Perhaps claim that out-rating Peppa Pig is a game changing moment for us...  Ignoring it doesn't make it go away.
