In other codes the Fox ratio to FTA TV is 3.5 to 4.5..... SBS runs at about 0.70 ...

Consider 3.5 compared to on average about 0.70 ... that is a huge difference ...

And yet SBS continue with the same boring commentary team. What a JOKE!!!!!!!!

Your insight shows why the other FTA networks are seriously looking at the new deal for 2017 - 2018 onwards.

So epl massively outrating HAL on SBS.Can Eurosnobs really outnumber HAL supporters 2 or 3-1?.My conclusion is HAL supporters like HD and don't like SBS commentary.SBS treats HAL with contempt and HAL fans treat them with contempt.

Could not agree more.... just compare BashEar with the EPL callers for starters...

So epl massively outrating HAL on SBS.Can Eurosnobs really outnumber HAL supporters 2 or 3-1?Do only Eurosnobs know how to find SBS?Maybe it suggests a lot of Eurosnobs have Foxtel and not Optus.Still when a Manu game can get 300k and HAL season opener only 100k ,with all the MV fans at home, something is going on.Presumably Bluebird will have some insight on how this rating shows HAL supporters know how to find SBS.My conclusion is HAL supporters like HD and don't like SBS commentary.SBS treats HAL with contempt and HAL fans treat them with contempt.

I agree with your conclusion

SBS2 and SBS1 both had good seasons (and equal ratings). Once the HD option was dropped the ratings have effectively halved

A League games are about 175k-200k for big games and openers, 150k for first 10 rounds, and about 75k-100k for other games

The EPL seems to be about 50k-75k above that, but largely based on who is playing (or rather 2-3 teams). This can be expected given what we know about football fans in this country

I find it funny how people are saying payTV is bigger than our FTA coverage. Its only true if you ignore the first 2 seasons. The fact that payTV is now consistently out rating the FTA coverage shows this is the exception, not the rule. That's why its unprecedented

We must be the only sport Australia where the pay tv channel out rates the fta tv channel 9 out of 10 times. But that kind of fox rating is very encouraging, last year that game was well under 100k, so hopefully we get a real uplift in ratings this year. Makes me think that the Sydney derby tonight, might have the best ratings for a regular season game ever. Hopefully.

If not, you can throw out the idea that subscription TV ratings share causation with attendance figures for good.

BRISBANE V MELBOURNE

FTA SBS2 - 118,000
STV Fox Sports 4 - 129,000

= 247,000

Damn good but lol @ more people watching on Fox compared to SBS. One day we'll get on a bigger FTA channel and it'll skyrocket.

I can understand why fans in the other Aussie Rules states outside Victoria (WA, SA, TAS) would be very sick of the current AFL regime.

Many have speculated for a long time that the AFL's obsession in new, uninterested markets at the expense of their base would bite them in the arse.

Eddie is not accustomed to dissent, and they've been able to keep a lid on it for now with their money and blanket media dominance, but time will tell how they adapt to the 21st century.

I think by the half way point of the century things will look very different.

Like China.

Anyway, I remember Sydney getting all bent out of shape when they lost the exceptions they had for years and the Alf media rushed to their aid. I sit there listening to the popular opinion and think ' do you hear what you are saying?'

I'm sure free tickets don't always make up for this blatant injustice.

More people watched the AFL Grand Final in Brisbane than they did in Adelaide or Perth. Find it hard to believe.

I know people are going to crucify me for this, and I sound like a bit of a hypocrite, but I think this is an interesting article about finals TV ratings?

http://theconversation.com/afl-and-nrl-grand-final-tv-ratings-show-codes-still-rely-on-their-traditional-heartlands-66485

Key points I have taken out of it.

1. QLD & NSW account for 53% of Aust. Pop and 57% of TV advertising revenue (giving League a slight advantage)
2. Sydney is the largest Market - 29% (also a benefit to League) compared to 21% for Melbourne
3. More Vic's watched the League while fewer Sydney Siders watched AFL
4. Both Expansion teams though (Swans in Sydney and Storm in Melbourne) both had some of their worst ratings in their respective expanded markets (lowest for the Swans and 2nd lowest for the Storm in terms of TV ratings in their own city).

ON the positive for AFL, they had more overall numbers and their viewers were more engaged with the broadcast, watching 64% of the final AFL as apposed 56% for NRL.

Overall I think you can see why Sydney seems to be more of a target for the FFA as opposed to anywhere else. And it can be more than just hard numbers that count in the end.

Amazing numbers, 4th highest in AFL history.

And you're spot on about Saturday arvo being TV's deadzone.

Sunday night effectively has double the available TV audience as  Saturday arvo, so if you can get 4 mill nationwide on a Saturday arvo, you are absolutely killing it plus some.

Replying to your own multi hahaha

Pretty sure the news said they got a lot more than 3m viewers.  Supposedly over 5m were watching in the final quarter.

I think there should be cross promotion between A league clubs and AFL clubs. Try and get fans to be members of both codes. Rather than detest opposing codes.

Yeh, over 4 million (metro plus regional), just on 3 mill for metro, peak audience in final quarter surpassed 5.1 mill.

Massive numbers for a Saturday arvo.

In Sydney, the average audience was 44% up on last year with 534,000 in-home viewers and a peak of 705,000 cheering on the gallant Swans. It was the highest Sydney audience since their winning 2012 Grand Final.

There's numbers here, you're trying to make a point, I don't have the slightest clue what that point is, and basically fuck off.

No, your right, the AFL is going to fail in NSW because it has had a 400% decrease in finals ratings :ermm:

I shouldn't have interrupted his gloating.

And as for the Sydney line yeah it is funny. Just maybe not to you.

yeah, that's what I said, the two figures I gave might very well have been metro - looks like they were. Was just from mumbrella.
