The thing that I find funny is the GF rated 275k. The post game show (which included ET and penalties) rated 460k

Somebody adds the two together and divides them by 2 and it gives the impression that 367k sat through 90 minutes of the grand final, even though 40% only watched 30 odd minutes, and wouldn't have been counted at all if MV weren't choke artists

Then for the first time regional ratings are counted as part of the total so the SBS figure can be sock stuffed as well, even though every ratings discussion and spreadsheet I have seen is metro only

While the ratings are very good, you are right that people are getting the mathematics all wrong.   The 90 min game averaged 275k, and then the following 45 min averaged 460k.

You can't add the two and divide by 2 because the first bit is twice the length of the 2nd bit.

If you want to average the audience over the full 135 minutes, you actually have to add 275k twice, then add 460, then  divide 1,010k by 3, which gives an average audience for the whole game of some 337k, which is still a very good average (although it doesn't mean a lot on its own)..

For Extra Time the average ratings on PayTV was 460,000 viewers.

To give some comparison, only 2 AFL matches & 1 NRL match last year pulled more viewers than Extra Time for yesterday’s A-League Grand Final.

Amazing what having consequences does to a game

P&R does that naturally to normal Leagues

True but not always at the top. Italy and germany this year are a great example. But agree in terms of at the bottom.

No reason to not have both.

Agreed. My comments re finals does not take away the fact that pro and rel would be fantastic due to the interest near the bottom.

Isn't it a good reason to put 3v6 4v5 and the 2 semis back to back on Sundays?

For example the SFC PG got 134k combined and MV BR got 199k combined. Besides possibly getting higher ratings FFA could come out with the statement "333k watched the Semi final games". Which implies it is double.

Also a lot easy to book stadiums if match dates are predetermined.

I am keen on both tbh but Premiers need more respect. It's part of our culture and you can have a relegation play off a week before the finals to really milk the shit out of TV figures and all that.

My team was playing. Of course I watched it. You must agree that there is so much bullshit in this league though. Like c'mon. But as for the finals...I agree, they can exist even thrive with pro rel.

Both would be great and it means the FFA can keep their payday and clubs can invest in squads and stadia and fight for their seat at the table.

Cheers mate. I always think of football as a pyramid where we are only as strong as our base.

We need it to grow on all fronts. I think it is great we are growing in all aspects but a lot of work is still yet to be done. A lot.

Mega amounts to do but have faith in the game and those involved there are some very very very smart folk in the Football community.

Most importantly most want the same thing ... the arguments are essentially about the fastest [if that is the right word] way to grow the game.

For all our issues at the moment I have never felt more confident than I do now ... the next six months will be necessary and they will be messy, ugly, soul destroying and maybe depressing to some ... but to be expected when ... I expect a new governance system will be in place within six months ...

Couldnt agree more but those smart ices need to be more vocal.

Also just going back, if for whatever reason you cant watch a stream at least click into it for as long as possible. At this stage we just need numbers.

I am writing a thread to put on the Roar which will ask football folk to bookmark the thread and plan to post many of your links on it... growing the base and market size is the next challenge ... it can be done and IMO will happen quicker than many think but slower than some want...

What saddens me somewhat is many of the plans have been developed by FFA. Most are excellent and that in part is why so many good bids are coming in... but alas politics and trying to hold on too long is now causing harm and the clubs need to take control hhhmmm not totally but we need FFA to step aside from a lot of what they do ... and Lowy is not a leader he would be good on the board but not as our leader.

My only concern  is what and who is charge next is better than what we have now and not just replacing one set of suits with another set..

Next season Mr Delany will serve up the same 10 teams, a few good derby matches to get us excited a little, a few teams hopefully pulling off upsets in the ACL and a decent grand final. Plenty of mediocrity in between though. Just my assumption

To my mind, its evidence that the Finals just dilutes and diminished the other 6 months.

With ratings like this, I wonder is there a possibility that the FTA channels will now look to pay the $4-10 million or whatever for the weekly Saturday night game from next season?

Only if they were born this week

We have had 12 years of grand finals and it hasn't enticed them
