Yeah definitely thought either of those two would come into consideration.

I reckon Alex Wilkinson was desperately unlucky to miss out. He was superb for Sydney this year in a team that broke all records for number of goals and number of shots conceded. he's won the league basically everywhere he's gone and usualy that's been due in large part to having a good defence. he's a winner with a winning mentality,a nd if you're playing a back 3 with this new system, he'd be one of the first to be able to pick it up i reckon.

I like the look of that

Thanks mate.

Would be good to have Rogic/Irvin and Mooy/Luongo swapping L/R a few times over the course of the match to keep things interesting.

Bloody oath. He's way better than wright, degenek or mcgowan. Just a bullshit call from Ange. He'd be my first picked CB, such a class player.

As harsh it might sound Jimmy Jeggo is probably selected due to him playing in Europe at a respectable level which is fair enough as we need to set ourselves higher standards of where our players should be going too.

Brillante has already got a chance and O'Neill is unproven at this level.

in the above lineup he would have to be pacey because he will be surrounded by maclaren and either leckie or gersbach on either side.  he can operate as a target man with his back to goal and feed/shoot.

He doesn't have the skillset as a target man, that's not his game he's a creative player who wants to take on defenders and wants the ball at his feet to turn in running at the defence or set up the last pass or shooting.

Fair point - although one of our best performance in the last match.

Sainsbury is a special case IMO. I know he hasn't played but that last game he played he was best on pitch for me. You can tell the difference between him and every other CB playing for us

Yep, Sainsbury is the best natural CB we've got at the moment, and unlike the other benchwarmers (ahem, Smith and Kruse) it hasn't effected his performances with the national team yet.

No practice game before for Saudi. They have a June friendly against Ecuador is Switzerland. Beating them should see us ahead. They're 3 goals ahead of us. a 2:0 win will see us on +7 and they'll be on +6. Goals scored is the next tie breaker then its H2H.

So a win gets us ahead on the H2H - good to have all bases covered.

The scenario I like is that Saudis could lose all 3 and the UAE pip them at the death if they win all 3. So they'll be up for the game against us.

He was bog average when he played in the HAL. Good on him for doing ok in Austria but I doubt he has improved that much . Moot point anyway as he will be one of the seven cut by Ange

Aye. Sains, Rogic and Mooy are special cases. Given Aus' lack of depth, those three are currently invaluable. Regardless of how many starts they rack up for their sides, they need to be in the squad for the NT, bare minimum.

Bog average is a bit harsh, he was reasonably good for Adelaide, although not as good as Mauk or McGree since.

Real talk guys we rely so much on our athleticism and our mental strength we are so lucky to have Ange as our coach as he is getting the very best our of an average generation but our problems underneath the surface are starting to show in the lack of technical quality from the majority of the squad.

It's no wonder Ange is looking at the young players in the squad who have a decent technical level to play his style.

i disagree. he seems comfortable working around the box.  his last passing isnt as sharp as it was against lazy australian defences.

Wales set to call on Gethin Jones as Australia show interest May 24 2017,

Gethin Jones

Everton's Gethin Jones is set to join the Wales squad as Chris Coleman wards off interest from Australia in the Perth-born youngster.

Wales have a squad get-together in Portugal next week ahead of the World Cup qualifier in Serbia on June 11, and Jones has been pencilled in for the Algarve trip with the Socceroos keen to bring the 21-year-old defender on board.

Coleman names his squad for the Belgrade qualifier on Thursday and Wales are increasingly confident that Jones – who earlier this week agreed a new 12-month contract extension at Goodison Park – will commit to them.

Welsh-speaker Jones, who left Australia as a young child and has been on Everton's books since the age of 12, has captained Wales sides at various levels.

He said in an interview earlier this year that he felt "more Welsh than Australian", but did not close the door on playing for the land of his birth.

"Australia contacted Everton two or three months back asking for me to play for their Under-23s, but I didn't want to make any decisions then," Jones told the Football League Paper in February.

"I feel more Welsh than Australian. I've been Wales captain from the Under-16s to the Under-21s so if the first team called I'd definitely go for that.

"But it depends now. If Australia came in before Wales you never know, it's something I'd have to seriously think about."

Jones has made one senior appearance for Everton, against Russian side Krasnodar in the Europa League in December 2014, and enjoyed successful loan spells at Plymouth and Barnsley.

He made 17 Championship appearances for Barnsley in the second half of last season before returning to Everton and helping David Unsworth's U23 side clinch the Premier League 2 title.

Australia have still kept the door open to Jones after he turned down an invitation to join a development squad camp in Spain in March.

"He is a very good player, and is playing in a position which we need to cover well," Australia U23 coach Josep Gombau told www.beinsports.com last month.

"If he were to change his mind he'd have a good chance of progressing.

"Maybe one day he will become a Socceroo, but right now he's not thinking in this way."

Liverpool pair Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson are set to be named in Coleman's senior party after being omitted from the Wales U20 squad at the Toulon Tournament, which starts next week.

Woodburn, 17, and Wilson, 20, were both called up for Wales' last World Cup qualifier in March, a 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.

Exeter starlet Ethan Ampadu, who was ineligible to play in Toulon as UEFA rules prevent 16-year-olds from featuring, is also set to link up with the senior squad in the Algarve.

But Gareth Bale and Neil Taylor will be missing because of World Cup suspensions.

Real Madrid star Bale serves a one-game ban in Belgrade, while Taylor starts a two-match suspension for the red-card challenge which left Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman with a double leg fracture.

Wales are in third place at the halfway stage of their World Cup qualifying group, four points behind top two Serbia and the Republic of Ireland.

I just watched Big Tam's goal to win the cup final. Gotta say, despite the overall lack of depth in the NT squad now, Tom Rogic and Aaron Mooy are probably around the level of the Golden Generation in overall ability, if not in consistency.

But the thing is that both of them can only play at their best when they're surrounded by teammates who are also class. So this is why they do so well for Celtic and Huddersfield but not for the NT. They're not quite at that phenomenal level where they can carry a team on their own. Also, they play in similar parts of the park (and despite being somewhat different in style), they don't complement each other's style all that well.

What makes it a bit of a pity (in the context of professional football) is that Australia might not qualify for Russia, full stop. And even if we do, we'll probably battle. Big Tam and Mooyzil could do spectacular things for the NT in the right set-up. But I don't think we've got that.

I reckon Jackson Irvine, Craig Goodwin, Alex Gersbach and Nathan Burns complement Rogic and Mooy. But Ange really needs to find a gifted young footballer, such as Daniel Arzani, who can be converted into a complete striker. We really need that for the ability of Rogic and Mooy to be understood in the NT.

Juric been scoring a few goals for Luzern heading into Roos games, will be interesting to see who starts against the saudi's out of him and maclaren. Assuming juric but based of experience and can see maclaren having a bigger impact of the bench then juric would. (All this assuming they make the 23)
