For signing FBK? How is it any different to Bonnyrigg signing Terry Mcflynn?

Fahid has a lot to offer still to first tier football imo.

Victorian clubs in line for potential bumper Cup payday

Four NPL Victoria clubs can now look forward to a potential bumper payday when they go into the hat for the national phase of the FFA Cup next month.

Hume City, Bentleigh Greens, Heidelberg United and, remarkably, South Melbourne all won their way through to the last four of the state-based Dockerty Cup in Victoria in games played during the week.

It is the Dockerty Cup semi-finalists who qualify to be Victoria's non A-League representatives when the round of 32, the first of the national rounds, takes place in the FFA Cup. The draw will be made in late June, with the first matches played in late July.

Depending on the rub of the green, any of the quartet could face A-League champions Sydney, who have just played Premier League giants Liverpool, or get a local derby against Melbourne Victory or Melbourne City.

Hume and Bentleigh Greens came through their ties against Moreland City and Green Gully respectively early in the week.

Heidelberg saw off NPL 1 side Northcote easily enough, winning 2-0 on Wednesday night after the lower-ranked side had a man sent off in the first half.

But the real drama took place at South Melbourne's Lakeside Stadium, where the hosts won an incredible game 5-4 after trailing 4-1 with just eight minutes left against second-tier club Dandenong City.

Dandenong, who fielded former Socceroo defender Ljubo Milecevic in their line-up, looked to be romping to victory as the game ebbed into junk time before Milos Lujic gave South a spark of hope with a penalty in the 82nd minute.

That sparked a three-goal scoring spree, with South first catching, then overtaking, their rivals – all without even needing to play 30 minutes of extra time.

It's actually a shame only 4 Victorian NPL sides get to represent in the round of 32.
They always perform strongly

And now we will see a reaccurance of teams competing for the cup and NPL titles. As the money becomes a common and reaccurring thing for the richer and larger clubs, they will build upon their cup success. You could almost run an FM simulator and see what happens but as these clubs grow their sponsorship deals, broadcast their games live and get Cup windfalls, their finances are going to make them very formidable clubs.

Solution: Second div and pro rel. It is the only way to capitalise on such successes.

5 possible ways for the cup to go from here (rigging or no rigging)
- stay the same
- have a regional round 64 (8 Vic teams + MC & MV, 3 SA + AU etc grouped into regional pools)
- Open Round 44 then 22 winners + 10 A-L for r32
- Regional r64/open r64 - A-League teams are drawn against local teams and all other matches open
- Victorian team wins NPL playoffs

ATM there are 31 matches iirc in FFA Cu. A r64 automatically doubles that. In an open draw it could create a much greater cost for FFA/Westfield and we know they are not really into that.

I'll have to be honest, I wouldn't want it anyway. I think expanding will take away a lot of the mashgiqueeeee in these prelim rounds to make the 32.

Who gets ya expansion cut?

I would cut a NSW and NNSW team if/when 2 new A-League teams entered.

Otherwise make NT play NQ/FNQ, Heat get it way too easy, and have NNW v NSW in a playoff

It's an interesting dilemna.

NNSW can get fucked as far as I'm concerned.

80 minute back to back games? What a joke.

FFA should take over qualifications imo.

2 Newcastle teams could enter the final round of NSW and 1 team from Northern NNSW could either enter GC round.

Fahid has a lot to offer still to first tier football imo.

He most likely wants to stay in the A-League, in order to secure a contract, especially at his age, he won't want to be sitting on his arse for months - so sign up with NPL side, play games, stay fit, get exposure in FFA Cup...  Very logical move for FBK.

Actually I believe his family wants to remain in Melbourne, with limited professional options the next best thing is npl. If he does sign I'm pretty sure this is the reason why, otherwise he would easily be in Newcastle or elsewhere.

Just on that Benjamin.
Isn't there some stupid rule in either the NPL or FFA cup where the NPL sides are disadvantaged by only allowed x2 imports?

Happy to be corrected but would like to clear this up.

A-League clubs should be only allowed 2 visa players too when playing NPL sides so it's apples for apples on the playing field.

It would be better if NPL clubs could have 5 visa players. It would improve the quality (with the right recruiting) immensely.

The FFA have made NPL sides farm teams and then crippled them while they were down.

Funny thing is i believe that local connection has grown their support

Fair enough if Brisbane come through with a big offer, but if a cap restricted you signing him that's bullshit. NPL needs to grow not be restricted. How does the cap work??

In Brisbane it works like - we will give you minimum wage in the cap and also employ you as a full time French teacher for our youth for $100k per year. So you will get ca $150k
