Scoreline massively flatters the Socceroos and especially Ange whose tactics and original selection was exposed as being terrible.
Leno's two errors gives the scoreline respectability that the game did not reflect.
Germany went into their shell in the second half but were still the better side.

The team looked much better with Mooy playing at DM, but Ange was too stupid to see that Mooy is not an AM at this level.

The team seemed to change themselves to a de facto back 4 in the second half, Behich stayed forward and Wright played more as a LB a lot of the time and Sainsbury used his pace and game reading to cover Wright a number of times. Leckie stayed back at RB while Kruse could play on the right side a head of him. Kruse though was quite poor.

May as well look at the positives:
Rogic is excellent
We know where mooy plays best
Juric was pretty good
Sains was good

They may have been two of the luckiest goals you are ever going to see, but nevertheless, we scored two goals, two more than we expected.

Overall, the German's touch for most of the game was a class apart, they took their foot off the peddle after their 3rd goal, and Australia got a bit of possession thereafter.

Bullshit. He's played to his level (good, not great) in most of the games he's played for Australia. His problem is everyone was expecting him to go on from his outstanding Asian cup performance.

A lot of the time, Behich went back a couple of times to make it a back 5 but he seemed to decide he would stay forward, not that that achieved anything.

Luongo has been a different player for the Socceroos since Ange tried him at RW. Not sure what has happened but he has not done any better than have okay games since then.

HUGE negatives:

unbelievable problems with our defensive structure. This is not about the calibre of players but how to get the most out of them defensively. So many times we lack urgency in populating the second line of defence, we gave a lot of free headers including one shortly after the ball hit the post where there was a player unmarked for a few seconds around probably half a dozen gold shirts, also our offside trap could improve

HUGE positives: I've seen significant improvement in attack for the roos since the start of ange's tenure. This is particularly nice given cahills decline. And we got within a goal from one of the best teams in the world at one of the biggest tournaments in the world where there team was choc full of hungry players eager to nail down a spot in germanys wc side.

watching the roos at the moment is a very up and down experience

Yeah it appeared so. Even Leckie was deep to assist Degenek. 

When has he been good? I don't keep an encyclopedic knowledge of our games, but I can't remember a game where he was in our top 3 players. He played well when the whole team did, but did nothing to drive us or lead the team. He is often caught out not tracking back and looks lost on the ball.

I'm certainly not denying he was awful tonight.  I just can't stand the way this forum tries to scapegoat a single player as the reason we suck at the moment. Hint: It's not Luongo's fault. He didn't come on until the 85th minute in our last competitive game,

All I can say is Luongo has been a shadow of the player he was at the Asian Cup. He hasn't been playing well for a while now. He is in danger of no going to the World Cup, include Kruse in that company too.

I said in the last two years. Everyone agrees he had a good Asian Cup. Thats why we expect better from him now.

And people haven't been scapegoating one player. This thread has seen half the team and the coach criticised.

You have basically proved my point. Everyone expects Luongo to emulate his outstanding Asian cup form, where he played better than any Australian player has in the Ange Postecogleou era.  He's simply not that player, but he's a solid squad player for us. To point to this game and say "he's shit" is fucking ridiculous.

At least we discovered a few things out of the match so it's not all in vain. Even though Ange is trying to tinker and give us flexibility in our formations, the simple fact is we play better with four in the backline. Mooy needs to play deeper, Milligan holding midfielder, Jedi not playing doesn't hurt us that much. We still have issues at LB and RB. I am not convinced of Wright, Degenek or Behich playing an advanced role. We look so disjointed.

I don't expect his Asian cup form although every once in a while it would be great if he had a game like that but he hasn't. He hasn't been playing well full stop.
