+x+xOne of the fox sports crew was saying it was the biggest crowd for an all npl clash at the round of 32 and the 2nd biggest crowd for an npl clash in the entirety of the cup, perhaps someone can check that up, weather would have kept a few away as well, atmosphere was top notch, and the crew of about twenty edgeworth fans up the back of the grandstand were good value. that's correct it was biggest crowd attendance at any for a round of 32 tie between two NPL teams. also that's correct second biggest crowd attendance at any previous NPL v NPL FFA Cup final rounds tie. was a good game fair result in the end South did deserve their win. Amazing that Devonport of all places holds that record.

Fairly sure Devonport vs Lambton Jaffas is second highest ro 32 attendance behind last nights game aswell.
I said recently in another thread the North West of Tassie is one of the most parochial going around.

Thurtell certainly good enough for A-League: keeping coach PROSPECT: Goal keeper Jordan Thurtell.Perth Glory FCFOOTBALL: A-League clubs would be seriously looking at Sunshine Coast product Jordan Thurtell, according to respected goal keeping coach John Gorza. The 21-year-old is playing with Moreton Bay in the Queensland state league after being released by national league outfit Perth Glory in May. He was at that club for three years but did not see game time in the top tier, instead playing in the Western Australian competition. But Gorza, the Australian under-20s goal keeping coach who mentored Thurtell while he was in the junior ranks, expects professional teams are interested in the youngster. "He's represented Australia at under-17 and under-20 level and he's in the frame at under-23 level, so he's certainly one of the keepers that A-league clubs would be looking at,” he said. "He's certainly good enough, no question. It's just a matter of waiting and hoping an opportunity arises. Things can change pretty quickly.” Gorza believes Thurtell has got the attributes to be a top flight player. "He's very focused, very professional in everything he does on and and off the field,” he said. "He's well regarded. He's consistent with his performances and always has been and you have to be mentally strong to be able to do that.” Gorza said Thurtell can continue to press his claims for the national under-23 team by playing with Moreton Bay in the National Premier Leagues Queensland competition during the A-League off-season. He was in the Olyroos extended squad earlier this year and Gorza said the young gun would likely be on the fringes of selection for that outfit. Fellow Sunshine Coast product Lachlan Jackson is in

WOW SM are really a hit in the mainstrem media. Article after article. Great for FFA Cup Matt Windley, Herald Sun SOUTH Melbourne coach Chris Taylor says his players cannot afford to waste time celebrating Wednesday night’s dramatic FFA Cup win. The one-time National Soccer League powerhouse moved into the Round of 16 of the Cup courtesy of a 94th minute Milos Lujic header which broke a 0-0 deadlock. South’s next Cup match will be between August 23-30, but in the meantime the club is involved in a thrilling battle with Heidelberg and Bentleigh Greens to finish on top of the NPL Victoria ladder. All three sides are locked on 45 points. Heidelberg and South have four games to play and Bentleigh three. South Melbourne celebrate after Milos Lujic scored the winner in their FFA Cup match against Edgeworth FC on Wednesday night.South is currently in the midst of four games in 12 days — the next is against Pascoe Vale on Saturday — while the next round of the Cup will coincide with the start of NPL finals. It will place a great strain on Taylor’s squad, but the coach is adamant he has the depth to call upon. A-League dress rehearsal turns into FFA Cup joy for South Will history help or hinder South Melbourne’s A-League bid? Every FFA Cup goal from the opening night “We’ve had some good results, but if we lose the next two games it doesn’t look as good,” Taylor said. “We’ve just got to keep everyone as fresh as we can. But my biggest challenge is to mentally prepare players that work during the day, turn up for a game at night and demand the same from them three days later. “The other thing is that we’ve got to quell anyone who might still be in celebration mode and thinking about the Cup, we’ve got to remind them that we’ve still got a lot of games to focus on. “The danger is we don’t prepare for Saturday because of what happened on Wednesday night.”

In the Leichardt / Hobart Olympia fixture next Tuesday in Hobart at Football Fed Tas HQ there is currently a great deal of animosity exuded towards Olympia from rival club supporters.
Many locals will be going to the game to support Leichardt!
Others will boycott it, because Olympia are playing. Colourful Olympia club president, George Mamacas, has stirred things up a bit lately.

@decentric
I don't know all the history in regards to the animosity towards Olympia, Mamacas does appear to be a polarising figure down there though.
It's a shame when from what I've seen elsewhere and seen written on here Olympia appears most likely in a financial sense to play in a second division when it happens.
I know on the North West, no matter the sport, when it's a NW vs NW teams playing the rivalry is fierce but when it's NW side vs some outsiders majority get behind the team representing them. I'm sure there are a few people that like to see the outsiders get up to spite the other NW side but not as much as it appears in Hobart.
I find the history of a club like APIA just as drawing as an A-League club. The team representing Tassie doesn't worry me as for me it's as much about supporting Tassie and NPL football

I was at the Bankstown Berries Metrostars game, while not the best game on the pitch, it was entertaining and a great excuse to get to Jensen park again, I don't understand why everyone was talking of Bankstowns win as a big upset.

It tends to be tall poppy syndrome here. Mamacas is a polarising figure, but he brings colour and publicity to football. The animosity between the five Hobart NPL clubs, plus Knights, goes back a long way. Borough seem a bit removed from the historical animosity, but their former president, Brian Dale, was very one eyed and Boroughcentric.

Heidelberg United will be hoping to emulate the feats of arch rival South Melbourne and progress to the FFA Cup Rd of 16 This coming Tuesday will be almost a year to the day that current Heidelberg United player Paul O'Brien playing for his previous club Redlands United, scored the goal which knocked out then reigning A-League champion Adelaide United from the FFA Cup. His extra-time winner was just the third time an NPL club has knocked out an A-League club. This Tuesday night at Olympic Village the Heidelberg United faithful will gather to find out whether their beloved Bergers can become just the second Victorian NPL club after Green Gully last year to achieve the feat when they come face to face with Perth Glory. O'Brien, along with team mate Reuben Way, are doubtful at this stage due to injury, while Josh Wilkins was to face a fitness test early on Friday morning. However with a number of players once more available after recovering from injury, Heidelberg coach George Katsakis says, "Come Tuesday we'll have most of the squad available to us. Should be an interesting time for selection." With the Bergers playing three games in seven days, incuding two important league clashes in their bid for the league title, Katsakis is confident he'll be able to rotate his squad. The previous occasion Olympic Village hosted an FFA Cup tie against an A-League club was the 2015 quarterfinal against Melbourne City which attracted a crowd of 11,372, the second highest FFA Cup attendance and a record for an NPL club. The Bergers lost 5-0 that day but Katsakis believes he and the players learnt valuable lessons from that first encounter. "We've learnt [from] it. There's certain things we'll need to be more mindful of. You know the strategy and the way we go into it. That's not to say we're going to change much what we do as a team anyway. We're a free-flowing team which likes to play fairly offensive football and we'll continue to do that." Heidelberg will go into the match as the underdog against a team boasting an abundance of attacking options including Andy Keogh, Adam Taggart, Chris Harold, Mitch Nichols, and one of the A-League's finest players Diego Castro. Despite this, Katsakis says, "The pressure's on them moreso that what it is on us. There's an expectation on them, obviously they need to get a result and they've made that very clear. I mean Kenny Lowe's interview in the Rd of 32 draw suggests they need to win. "The FFA Cup for us is massive. It's instrumental to what's happened over the last couple of years, since the Melbourne City game. I think that's been an eye-opener for most clubs especially clubs like South Melbourne that are now trying to replicate what we did on that night. I think it was an eye-opener for most member federation clubs. For us it's equally as important as that game. We're obviously treating it very seriously. It was a goal we set ourselves that we want to be amongst the last 32. From the club's perspective and the board, I think they're looking forward to the challenge. I'd be surprised if we didn't get four to five thousand [spectators]." Kick-off is at 7.30 pm Tuesday 1 August at Olympic Village, Heidelberg.

Olympia Warriors blank Hobart Zebras in tune-up for FFA Cup match OLYMPIA Warriors have tuned up for their FFA Cup Round of 32 match against NSW side APIA Leichhardt Tigers with a 2-0 win over the Hobart Zebras at KGV. With South Hobart holding a 10-point lead over the second-placed Warriors on the NPL Tasmania ladder and able to secure the title with a win tomorrow, the interest last night lay in how Olympia performed ahead of Tuesday’s FFA Cup game. It wasn’t Olympia’s best performance of the season in what was a dour game at times, but they defended well and took their chances when they came. It was a quiet start to the game, with both sides struggling to manufacture chances in the opening half an hour. The game needed a goal, and the Warriors provided it in the 33rd minute. Warren Wadawu beat a defender on the right wing before playing a low ball across the face of goal for Lucas Hill, whose shot from point blank range was deflected in by Zebras defender Jayden Hey. Dwayne Walsh had a golden chance to respond for the Zebras a minute later, but his volley from top of the box flew straight at Olympia keeper Jakob Cole. The Zebras came out firing in the second half, and dominated territorially but found it difficult to break down the stubborn Olympia defence. Matthew Pace had the best chance for the home side in the 60th minute when he was first to the rebound after Cole made a good save from a Zebras header, but Cole somehow managed to hold Pace’s thunderous volley from close range. Olympia saw more of the ball as the half wore on, and Thomas Bellini wrapped up the win in the 82nd minute when a Shane Cartwright cross from the left was deflected into his path and he made no mistake from close range. It was nearly 3-0 two minutes later when James McCarthy’s long free kick to the back post eluded everyone and pinged off the upright, but it mattered little in the end. Olympia takes on APIA Leichhardt at KGV at 7.30pm on Tuesday. http://www.themercury.com.au/sport/local-sport/olympia-warriors-blank-hobart-zebras-in-tuneup-for-ffa-cup-match/news-story/1a3587b47e1477dc2e22d37ef3e642a1

Peninsula Power on move to take on A-League giants Melbourne City in glamour FFA Cup tie SHAUN Feuerriegel cannot wait for Peninsula Power’s FFA Cup Round of 32 clash with Melbourne City on Tuesday night. The Power star said it will be the biggest game he has been part of during his 28 years at the club. Melbourne City, owned by Manchester City owner, Emirati Sheikh Mansour, have named Socceroos star Tim Cahill, A-League goalscoring machine Bruno Fornaroli and former Brisbane Roar star Luke Brattan in their squad. Feuerriegel, confident in the “very talented” Power side, said it would be more than just a football game – it would be a monumental moment for him and coach Aaron Philp, who grew up on Kroll St, Kippa-Ring, playing backyard football, and have played together at Power from juniors right through to the Brisbane Premier League. The duo dreamt of being part of a big game like this, and Feuerriegel said he was glad they could “tick the box” together. “It’ll be good,” the 33-year-old, who has played the most games and scored the most goals for Power in the BPL since the club’s promotion in 2007 with 197 games and 94 goals, said. “We’re not going out there just for the experience – we’re going out to win. “Anything can happen.” Feuerriegel said he would be playing for his mum and dad, club president Craig Feuerriegel, because they were the main reason he had played for so long, and the club’s success meant the world to them. President Craig Feuerriegel said Power and its supporters were “daring to dream of a magic win” against Melbourne City. “We want a big crowd to get behind our boys and really have a go at them,” Feuerriegel said. “Melbourne City have some great players and are most definitely the favourites, however anything is possible.” ■ Peninsula Power will take on A-League club Melbourne City in the FFA Cup Round of 32 at Dolphin Stadium on August 1 at 7.30pm ■ Tickets available at peninsulapower.com.au or www.oztix.com.au http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/moreton/peninsula-power-on-move-to-take-on-aleague-giants-melbourne-city-in-glamour-ffa-cup-tie/news-story/45177e5c962ab2e99484554a5b3cea28

The other 3 games combined didn't match the south attendance, shows how good it was for round of 32.
Wonder if we would be better off just getting a big A league tie in the round of 16.

MELBOURNE City will start the defence of their FFA Cup crown without Tim Cahill, who won’t play against Peninsula Power at Dolphin Oval on Tuesday night. The Socceroos stalwart, who only returned to training last week, isn’t part of City’s travelling squad to Queensland. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/melbourne-city-open-ffa-cup-defence-in-brisbane-without-tim-cahill/news-story/0110b11bcd49ed30b518dfc869db9323

MATT WINDLEY, Herald Sun THE main difference is time. Englishman Luke Byles says National Premier League clubs endure the longest pre-season anywhere in the football world, just like their A-League counterparts — about three months long. His Heidelberg United side usually trains three times a week, if not four depending on when its matches are. The players are required to look after their bodies both in structured recovery sessions and while away from the club. PREVIEW:FFA CUP IS BACK AND HAS OPENED A PANDORA’S BOX FLASHBACK:HEIDELBERG REVELS IN AFTERGLOW OF FFA CUP QUARTERFINAL They do in depth analysis of opposition teams and coaches go to scout their upcoming opponents. But while A-League players generally train in the morning and are at home at night, NPL players like those at Heidelberg most often run around on weeknights after a long day at work. Byles, a junior coach and Heidelberg’s captain, said among his teammates are tilers, removalists, baristas, painters, hairdressers, car salesmen and full-time students. Heidelberg stars Adrian Zahra (left) and captain Luke Byles (right) ahead of their FFA Cup clash against Perth Glory. Picture: GettyAnd so Tuesday night’s FFA Cup clash with A-League side Perth Glory at Olympic Village in Heidelberg is that David versus Goliath proposition where the part-timers have their crack at the professionals in the sport’s great leveller — 90 minutes on the same pitch, 11 v 11. With talk of the need for a second division, it will be clubs like Heidelberg — if not Heidelberg themselves, the current NPL Victoria ladder leader — that will be jostling for a place in the nationwide second tier competition if and when it comes to fruition. VALE LES MURRAY: FOOTBALL MOURNS ‘PIONEER’ MURRAY TRIBUTE TO LES MURRAY: ‘THE WORLD HAS LOST A FOOTBALL COLOSSUS’ TOM SMITHIES: LES MURRAY HELPED US FALL IN LOVE WITH FOOTBALL Heidelberg star Adrian Zahra, who has played at Melbourne Heart and Tuesday night’s opponent Perth, is adamant that plenty of his young teammates are more than capable of stepping up to the A-League level. Again, like Byles, Zahra said the main difference between his current teammates and those with which he played with in his previous professional life is the gift of time. “We’re playing 30-35 games a season and the scheduling is very tight,” Zahra said. Adrian Zahra during his time with Perth Glory. Luke Byles in action for Heidelberg. Picture: Mark Wilson“It’s very professional in terms of the way we go about our training, the way our bodies are prepared and tactically it is as well. “But I guess one of the main differences is that we need to find that time in between people working and not working. “A lot of these young boys are putting in that extra work because they’ve got those aspirations of playing at the highest level they can. “Realistically, good NPL teams can match it with A-League teams. And so then if individual players on those NPL teams get that extra time to train and play full-time, the sky is the limit for them. “There are so many players out there who can go to the extra level with that little bit more investment of time in them.” Heidelberg will have the chance to net some extra cash on Tuesday night, with the NAB Golden Goals program donating $2500 to grassroots clubs for every goal they score against A-League sides during the FFA Cup.

Blacktown City prepare for FFA Cup round of 32 clash with A-League club Central Coast Mariners
Ready: Blacktown City captain Matt Lewis poses with the FFA Cup ahead of the round of 32 clash with the Central Coast Mariners. Picture: Football NSW/Brendan Esposito After a deep FFA Cup run last year, expectations are high in Blacktown that the Demons can do it again. Blacktown City will face the Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday, with captain Matt Lewis backing his side to do a job on the A-League side. It’s a match that has greater meaning for City players Lewis, Zac Cairncross and Mitch Mallia, all who played for the Mariners. Unfortunately, Mallia is set to miss the clash after an injury sustained last week. “I hope we can beat them and rub it in – 100 per cent,” Lewis said. “I don’t think there are any players that were there when I was there. The only people that may be the same may be the background staff, which will be good to see them because I haven’t seen them in a long time.” With Blacktown hosting the game, Lewis hopes there will be a big crowd and a great atmosphere. On top of being able to take on his former club, Cairncross will also bring up his 200th game for Blacktown City. Cairncross previously tasted A-League action with Sydney FC, where he was a youth player in 2009 and 2010 and tallied two A-League appearances. He also played for the Mariners in 2014, spending the season as an injury replacement but not getting on the field. Cairncross said he thinks that the Demons have the team that can beat the A-League club. “I know a few of the boys but a lot of the squad has changed,” he said. “There are some still there so it would be good to come up against them. They’ve got a point to prove and it will be a tough game but I definitely think we can give them a good run for their money.” He also admitted that having his 200th game for Blacktown against the Central Coast would be a big achievement. “I’ve been here for a long time – I made my debut in 2007 – spent a few years away from the club but played all my juniors here,” he said. “Looking up to the guys who have made their 100th and 200th games, I always knew that was what I wanted to do. “I’m going to stay around as long as they want me here – 200, 250, we’ll see how we go.” For Blacktown City Mark Crittenden, he said after a loss and a draw in the National Premier Leagues, it wouldn’t take much to get his side up for a match against the Mariners. “It won’t be a challenge to get up for it because we’re playing the Central Coast but the biggest thing is managing the bodies,” he said. “We’ll get the boys in and get the physio to check them all over and make sure they’re healthy and feel well and then prepare for the Mariners because they’re a different kettle of fish again. “It was good to draw an A-League club. It’s great for the boys to be able to showcase themselves against some of the best boys in the country.” Blacktown City will take on the Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday at 7.30pm at Lilys Football Centre. Tickets available at: www.eventopia.co/event/Blacktown-City-FC-v-Central-Coast-Mariners/349997 Blacktown City’s FFA Cup history (from round of 32) 2014 - Round of 32 – 1-0 Loss Vs Bentleigh Greens, Lilys Football Centre
In the first season of the FFA Cup, Blacktown City fell in the round of 32 at home to Bentleigh Greens. A goal against the run of play just before half-time saw Blacktown fall to the Victorians. 2015 - Round of 32 – 2-1 Loss Vs North Eastern MetroStars, Lilys Football Centre
Blacktown City led 1-0 at half-time after a key strike to Patrick Antelmi against the South Australian club. However, a second half change in strategy gave the MetroStars a 2-1 win. 2016
- Round of 32 – 6-2 Win Vs Sydney United 58, Lilys Football Stadium
- Round of 16 – 3-0 Win Vs Bonnyrigg White Eagles, Lilys Football Centre
- Quarter Finals – 3-0 Loss Vs Sydney FC, Sydney United Sports Centre
Blacktown went deep into the FFA Cup with wins over NPL 1 NSW rivals Sydney United 58 and Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Coming up against Sydney FC the week after their grand final triumph, the Demons didn’t have enough to beat the future A-League champions, falling 3-0. 2017 – run so far - FFA Cup NSW Round 4 – 6-0 Win Vs Kirrawee Kangaroos, Lilys Football Centre
- FFA Cup NSW Round 5 – 2-0 Win Vs Lokomotiv Cove FC, Lilys Football Centre
- FFA Cup NSW Round 6 – 2-1 Win Vs Mount Druitt Town Rangers SC, Lilys Football Centre
- FFA Cup NSW Round 7 – 3-0 Win Vs Bulli FC, Balls Paddock

When they were founded, the club was known as Shamrock Rovers Darwin, after the Irish side of almost the same name. +x+x+xOne of the fox sports crew was saying it was the biggest crowd for an all npl clash at the round of 32 and the 2nd biggest crowd for an npl clash in the entirety of the cup, perhaps someone can check that up, weather would have kept a few away as well, atmosphere was top notch, and the crew of about twenty edgeworth fans up the back of the grandstand were good value. that's correct it was biggest crowd attendance at any for a round of 32 tie between two NPL teams. also that's correct second biggest crowd attendance at any previous NPL v NPL FFA Cup final rounds tie. was a good game fair result in the end South did deserve their win. Amazing that Devonport of all places holds that record. I'm not surprised. Football has a lot of potential in Tasmania. The only people who don't seem to realise this are Lowy and Gallop.

+xBut while A-League players generally train in the morning and are at home at night, NPL players like those at Heidelberg most often run around on weeknights after a long day at work. Byles, a junior coach and Heidelberg’s captain, said his teammates are removalists.
I find it hard to believe any are removalists. These guys do really hard, physical labour. I'm amazed they have any energy left to train and play. I take my hat off to them.

Heading to Dolphin Stadium for the first time tonight for Pen Power vs Melbourne City. Not expecting Peninsula to cause an upset, but hopefully it's an entertaining game. They had a big win on the weekend in the Brisbane Premier League and look to be in good form, so you never know!

+xHeading to Dolphin Stadium for the first time tonight for Pen Power vs Melbourne City. Not expecting Peninsula to cause an upset, but hopefully it's an entertaining game. They had a big win on the weekend in the Brisbane Premier League and look to be in good form, so you never know! Could you grab a few pics when your there. I reckon it would look pretty sweet in football mode with a decent crowd. What sort of attendance are they hoping for?

Tim Michell, Hume Leader INTERIM Hume City boss Nick Hegarty made his return from injury against Oakleigh Cannons on Friday, but is no certainty to start the club’s FFA Cup clash with Bentleigh Greens. The reigning FFA Gold Medal winner had been sidelined with an ankle injury, but returned as an 88th-minute substitute in Hume’s 1-1 draw with Oakleigh. The Hume skipper has been appointed coach until at least the end of the 2017 campaign and will steer the club through the knockout rounds of the national competition. Hegarty said he would make a decision on whether to make his return to the starting side against Bentleigh next Wednesday after a friendly against Melbourne City on tomorrow night. “There will be a few of us play that game and see how we go,” Hegarty said. “Just to give myself (time and) Kris Kioussis, coming back from injury as well. “We will give them a run out and a couple of guys who need game time as well. “We will get a few people through some minutes to give ourselves a fully fit and available squad for the Bentleigh game.” Hegarty said he expected to have at least 16 players to choose from as the club prepares to host NPL top flight rival Bentleigh in the Round of 32. Hume is out of contention for NPL finals, sitting six points behind Avondale FC with two rounds to play. The club will be aiming to replicate its 2015 FFA Cup run, when it progressed to the semi-final stage before being bundled out by Melbourne Victory. “Over the last four or five weeks, the 13-14 players that have been involved have been doing fantastically well,” Hegarty said. “They have been doing brilliantly so they should probably be given the chance to play. “Me and the staff will put a plan together for how we are going to tackle Bentleigh. “Whether that includes myself of Kris, that is something that will be decided further down the line.” Hume City’s next National Premier League fixture is on Saturday, August 12 against Green Gully. The club’s FFA Cup match kicks off at 7.30pm on Wednesday, August 9, at Broadmeadows Valley Park. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/north-west/sport/hume-city-captain-nick-hegarty-out-to-prove-fitness-before-ffa-cup-round-of-32-clash-with-bentleigh-greens/news-story/7f479478368a9110364f8fa32644b505

GREY MORRIS, NT News FOOTBALL NT boss Bruce Stalder wants tomorrow night’s big FFA Cup clash between local side Darwin Rovers and A-League giants Sydney FC to act as a beacon for the round ball game. Sydney FC’s captain Alex Brosque is the only major doubt among the Sky Blues, with the birth of his third child yesterday likely to keep him in the harbour city. More than 4000 fans are expected to fill Darwin Football Stadium at Marrara for Territory soccer’s third attempt at advancing past the national competition’s Round of 32. Darwin Olympic in 2015 and the Rovers last year were on the wrong end of some big losses to interstate clubs. “This is a massive opportunity for us to highlight the best of our game,’’ Stalder told the NT News last night. “You always want to test yourself against the best and we’ve got the very best up here this week.’’ “When you have the national champions in Darwin against our local tradies who have done it hard, it’s a great result for football. “It also gives us a chance to profile these superstars from Sydney FC among our junior players, those weekend warriors who play our game with all their heart and soul.’’ More than 120 children will fill various roles in tomorrow night’s game, including playing Mini Roos games at halftime, ball persons and mascots. “Basically we want to share this experience among as many of our football family up here in the NT as possible,’’ Stalder said. “On the pitch it should be a great occasion. Sydney is bringing up a very strong side with their coach (Graham Arnold) indicating he wants to put some time into the legs of his marquee players. Stalder has guaranteed the Sky Blues a sublime playing surface, unlike many of the grounds they play on through the A-League season. “The surface at Darwin Football Stadium is as good as anywhere,’’ he said. “It’s a credit to our groundsman who has done a fantastic job getting it up to scratch.’’ Meanwhile, Stalder has advised football fans to book their tickets online or purchase them at the Football Federation’s head office at the Italian Club at Marrara to avoid long queues at the gate. Fans can also save money by pre-purchasing up until 1pm today, with savings of up to 30 per cent for a family grandstand pass – $65 down to $52. Individual grandstand tickets can be purchased for $20 online or over the counter.

Clement Tito, Heidelberg Leader Heidelberg United coach George Katsakis has urged the Warriors faithful to pack Olympic Village tonight as they take on A-League outfit Perth Glory in an FFA Cup round of 32 knockout clash. United is flying this season, locked in a titanic struggle with longtime rival South Melbourne for NPLV honours while a fortnight ago it claimed its very first Dockerty Cup after a penalty shootout thriller against the Bentleigh Greens. Two years ago, in front of 11,000 fans, Heidelberg entertained Melbourne City in the quarter-finals of the cup, losing 5-0. A-League opposition will again be challenging, but Katsakis said his team has quite few cards falling in its favour. “They’re going to fly, I would imagine overnight, and they’re in the very early stages of their pre-season,” he said. “I’m hoping they can’t adjust to these conditions and, hopefully, we can get a better start than that game against Melbourne City. “They’re used to a better pitch, probably used to a ground not so open and enclosed to some degree. It’s definitely not going to suit them, we know our pitch like the back of our hands. So, hopefully, that plays some sort of a significant role.” Two years ago Aaron Mooy and his Melbourne City knocked out Heidelberg United 5-0 Picture : George SalpigtidisKatsakis said he sees advantages and disadvantages in the A-League and NPL not being played at the same time and feels momentum could well favour Heidelberg. “We just fulfilled our Dockerty Cup commitments, we’re striving for top spot (NPLV), we’re in a comfortable position at the moment and we want to retain that,” he said. “We’ve got six games in the matter of five weeks, we’re going to have to rotate correctly, freshen up bodies and definitely our conditioning is going to come to a test.” Katsakis said Heidelberg players will not be getting carried away with the strength of the opposition and added interest in the game. “I’m an experienced campaigner, I’ve been going for too long,” he said. “We’re going to treat this as just another game and we don’t want to get over confident or feel underdogs, I think it’s very important. “We need to go out there and play to our strengths and not worry so much about what their strengths are and, hopefully, we can expose some of their weaknesses during the game.” What: FFA Cup round of 32 Who: Heidelberg United v Perth Glory Where: Olympic Village (Catalina St, Heidelberg Heights) When: Tuesday, August 1 (7.30pm kick-off)
