Saudis with everything to play for, at home against a Japan side who are already through.
At least 3 nill for Saudi Arabia, Australia will need to win by at least 5 goals against Thailand for any chance of making it through, also not concede any, which is doubtful.

I feel this game will tell us absolutely everything we need to know about this generation of players and our manager.
We're at home in a must win game with no choice but to absolutely batter a significantly weaker team............. over to you ange

This team doesn't have 4 or 5 goals in them, unless the Thai's capitulate mentally.

I have a ground breaking idea. How about we play a player or 2 who can score some foooking goals?

Australia only paying $11 for a 5-0 win....a very rare score in international football and against a team they drew against last time.

We are +4 GD to the Saudis +6. I can see Japan putting their collective cues back into the rack. The Saudis could win by a two goal margin (2-0 or 3-1) in the stifling heat. Their game is after ours. Can't see us putting 4-5 past the Thais. Looks like 3rd place is wrapped up fellas.

+xIf we'd won last night Id have wanted us to play Mabil, Amini and a few of the fringe players against Thailand. Cant hold it against Japan if they do the same. They didn't start Honda or Okazaki against us. I dont know the Japanese team well but there second 11 is probably still more than a match for the Saudi's. And if it is their 'fringe' team they definitely wont be putting the cue in the rack as they'll be auditioning for the WC Squad proper. I think (and fervently hope) a draw is the best the Saudi's will get.

Their game is after ours. Can't see us putting 4-5 past the Thais. Looks like 3rd place is wrapped up fellas. We're two behind the Saudis, so need to win by 2 even to draw level. Remarkably a 2-0 win would put us even on goal difference and goals scored, but I imagine it would go to head-to-head after that and we'd go through. But we're assuming the Saudi's win, so there goal difference will go up by at least one goal. That means 3 we have to score. And if they win 2-1, we'd need a 4-1 win, if they win 3-2 we'd need to win 5-2 etc. to keep level with them on goals scored as well as goal difference. The worst thing about our loss to Japan is we made their game with the Saudis a dead rubber for them. We'd be very lucky for the Saudi's to drop points, and lucky if the only win by a goal. So i reckon any less than a 4 goal win and we're most likely headed for playoffs... On the other hand it's not like Thailand are playing for a world cup spot either. Saudis have blown a couple of results lately though so maybe they'll crumble under the pressure and we'll sneak over the line.

If we even get up over Thailand (why are we assuming its a given?) its going to be a sleepless night, the Saudi - Japan game kicksoff at 3:30am and will be on Fox Sports.

Here is my take on what Australia's position is on Match Day 10
If Australia draw we need SA to lose to finish 2nd
If Australia win by 1 or 2 goals we need SA to draw or lose to finish 2nd
If Australia win 3-0 we need SA to win 1-0, draw or lose to finish 2nd If Australia win 4-0 we need SA to win 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-2, draw or lose to finish 2nd If Australia win 4-1 we need SA to win 1-0, 2-1, draw or lose to finish 2nd
Thailand have copped two 4-0 results this round of qualifiers so I do think scoring 3 or 4 against them is a realistic aim. Like all teams the Saudis will also tighten up a lot with qualification on the line so I reckon Japan are a decent chance to win or draw.
From the Saudi perspective I think they would be just as worried Thailand will be tanking against us and lose 5 or 6 nil as we are worried Japan may field a weakened side in the Wednesday morning clash.
No doubt the Aussies will focussing on playing well to get the win and then whatever happens after that happens.

I dont think Japan will roll over. Somewhere I hope they would prefer us to be there (WC) instread of the Saudis. Also that they can hold it over us..... and they will continue to play each other in the future so Japan will be looking to crush their spirit.
If we can 3-0 or more the Saudis will have to press forward and hopefully leave themselves exposed to the counter. There will be diving, oh yes, a ton of diving.

Thailand to put the dick in the Socceroos and park the bus drawing the game 1-1, cementing that 3rd place play off.

Look Ange, just play to win full stop at all costs, throw the bloody kitchen sink. Don't worry about what they may do what have we got to lose, a harder quali route so be it. We need goals ! Drop Ryan. Bring Gersbach in LB. 2 feckin strikers, one is Cahill, formation 1 4 4 2. Every time in their bottom 3rd there has to be a shot on target or a through ball behind the backline.. Assess at HT :) Fellas, no point treading lightly. Were at home.

Anyone who thinks japan are going to lay down are idiots. The only thing that will bring japan down is their managers ineptness. Japan will win, there is no question, ange has to summon something magical from somewhere... we really need to be slotting 5... but how...
