Everyone (well, you know) would be I reckon but
a) remains to be seen b) whatever

Really a shame it had to be Allianz and not a suburban 20k ground though

‘Maybe video ref was at the hotdog stand?’ Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz has pleaded with A-League officials to keep the game safe

ADELAIDE United coach Marco Kurz has called for referees to protect his players from risking their livelihoods, using Jordan Elsey as a prime example of a man who got lucky.

Elsey jumped to avoid a two-footed challenge from his good mate, Western Sydney’s former Reds midfielder Jacob Melling during Tuesday night’s FFA Cup 2-1 semi-final win in Sydney.

Melling even escaped a caution while Kurz claimed a red card was the proper punishment.

Reds have FFA Cup confidence

“For me it’s a good tackle or dual to win the ball and not to break a leg,’’ Kurz said after Reds training at Hindmarsh on Friday.

“I’m a sportsman and if I have no chance to win the ball, OK let’s wait for the right moment.

“From my side my players will play very hard but fair.

“From the last game it was a clear red card against Elsey I don’t need a video assistant referee (VAR).”

Kurz also took aim at VAR during the Reds 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory at Adelaide Oval last Friday saying he also missed send off offences.

United coach Marco Kurz after Tuesday night’s FFA Cup semi-final win.

“Maybe he wasn’t watching the screen, he was at the hot dog stand, I don’t know,’’ he said.

“But it’s real, it’s more than a foul.

“I don’t understand a lot of decisions.

“I think I saw a lot of hard tackles and for these tackles you don’t need video assistants, I know it’s more than a foul and it’s up to the main referee.

“The must make harder decisions than in the past.”

Now Kurz hopes Saturday’s clash against Melbourne City at Hindmarsh — the first home game for the Reds this season — will be remembered for the football and not for rough-house tackles.

The feisty start to the A-League season has already cost United a line up of injured players such as Vinni Lia (knee), Ersan Gulum (fractured rib and punctured lung) and Johan Absalonsen (thigh).

But Kurz said the Reds would make the most from the absences with the German having faith in United’s young guns to step into the shoes of the key men against City.

Victory, Reds fire up

He also said United would consider playing with three stoppers - possibly Elsey, Ben Warland and skipper Isaias again - to effectively form a back-five like it did to quell the Wanderers’ dangerous attackers on Tuesday.

“I wanted Isaias to sprint into the spaces of our back four, to give the team more stability in defence,’’ he said.

“I think the plan was good, (but) it’s up to the opponent (if we use the system at Hindmarsh).

“I will not say play one style, I’ll prepare the team for a game and it’s always different.

“City plays another style.”

With Kurz buoyed by the team spirit of his side Isaias said it would be a special game given City may parade up to eight former United players in the squad at Hindmarsh.

Led by Reds 10-year veteran Eugene Galekovic, Isaias wished his former United captain all the best but claimed despite their friendship they will be “enemies” on the pitch for 90 minutes.

“During the game I don’t have friends,’’ Isaias said.

“I think (Galekovic) is a magnificent person and keeper and he will be excited to come back to Hindmarsh.”

We should just go a Davis Cup style system when 2 a-league sides play each other. So the first time 2 sides play each other in the cup is a random draw. Then on everytime they play again the home side will alternate, regardless of whether its a final or first round clash.

This idea is also worth considering for when NPL sides meet.

Otherwise the home final should be randomly drawn.

Sydney FC fans angered by Ticketek fee that adds 30 per cent to member’s ticket for FFA Cup final

Ads by Kiosked

TICKETEK has come under fire from irate Sydney FC fans for charging a fee of almost a third of the entry price for FFA Cup final tickets.

Tickets went on sale to Sydney FC and Adelaide members at noon on Monday, with a deliberate pricing policy from FFA to attract as many fans as possible to the final at Allianz Stadium on November 21. That included a 10 per cent discount to members.

But members of the Cove, Sydney’s active fans group, say the price of $22.50 for a ticket increased by almost a third when Ticketek added a $6.60 transaction fee. To compound it, members of The Cove were restricted to one ticket per sale, though other members can buy more tickets.

CUP FINAL: WHY SYDNEY WILL HOST FINAL

BEST EVER? SYDNEY’S EXTRA MOTIVATION FOR CITY CLASH

Ticketek has a contract with the SCG Trust to be its ticket provider, meaning FFA has to use the agency as part of its agreement to stage the final at Allianz.

Grant Muir, one of The Cove’s leaders, said the level of fee was sabotaging attempts to attract a strong crowd for the FFA Cup final.

“The club and FFA have done the right thing and priced tickets at a level to get people along to the final,” Muir said. “We’re also appreciative of the discount for members, but then Ticketek came along and charged $6.60.

“When I saw the price initially I thought it was considerably less than last year, and that seemed a really smart move, but $22.50 suddenly becomes almost $30. Proportionally it’s completely out of whack, or it defeats the whole point of having cheap tickets.”

FFA opted to play the final at Allianz instead of Cooper’s Stadium in Adelaide, which is less than half the size and cheaper to run. Sydney FC members who normally sit on the western side of the stadium are being displaced to the far side in order to put more fans in the line of sight of TV cameras.

“We made a very conscious decision to reduce prices to attract families and young children to the FFA Cup but we have a contracted position with the ticket provider which is a fixed component of this cost,” said Greg O’Rourke, head of the A-League.

“The variable ticket price component from the FFA has been lowered to make the total ticket prices attractive.”

A Ticketek spokesman said: “Ticketek’s fees cover the end-to-end service delivery, from the time of purchase through to staffing at events, and they are set per transaction, not per ticket.

“On average, there would be 3 to 4 tickets bought per transaction for football matches, which makes the fee a relatively small portion of the overall price.

“However, Ticketek does not set ticket prices or the number of tickets that can be purchased per transaction by certain categories. That is rightly the prerogative of the event promoter.”

They seem to be all linked with Sydney press releases. Maybe Adelaide just aren't promoting their spot in the final.

Not saying they aren't in other forms of media. Just pointing out that the perceived bias can easily be put down to Sydney's twitter account has been actively tweeting about the final multiple times today, while so far I can see Adelaide's hasn't tweeted a thing. Easier to retweet things that exist than don't.

Sydney FC is going to get a massive crowd to the final to prove it's all justified

Sydney FC star Milos Ninkovic makes plea to fans to attend FFA Cup final

Sydney FC marquee Milos Ninkovic has made a plea to fans to show up to their FFA Cup final on home soil to help the Sky Blues claim their first silverware of the season.

Sydney FC are enduring a lacklustre season in terms of attendances that's reflective of a broader drop in interest in the A-League. Aside from a derby against Western Sydney Wanderers that did not sell out, the Sky Blues biggest home crowd of the season was little over 11,500 when they hosted Newcastle Jets last weekend and there is little indication the FFA Cup final will attract a significant crowd on Tuesday night.

FFA sources are predicting a crowd of just 12,000 will witness the first cup final in the city since Parramatta Melita beat Sydney United in the NSL Cup in 1993.

Sydney FC pressured the FFA to gain hosting rights for the final, having played the decider away to Melbourne City last year, and receiving tough luck over the past two seasons of the competition that provided them with only one home draw in 10 games.

Despite early ticket sales suggesting Allianz Stadium will be well below half its capacity on Tuesday night, Ninkovic urged all Sydney FC fans to make the trip to Moore Park to be part of what could be a historic night for the Sky Blues.

"I know it's a Tuesday night and it's going to maybe be too late for kids but we need support," he said. "We have never won this trophy and we want to win this trophy with our fans to celebrate like we did in the [A-League] grand final."

The Serbian midfielder said there is little chance Sydney can create more records than the plethora of new benchmarks they set last season but a potential treble will make 2017-18 more memorable. While a premiership and a championship remain a long way off, the club is top of the table in the A-League and confident of adding an FFA Cup title to their trophy cabinet in what will be the first completed target for the season.

"It's very hard to repeat last year to make all these records but if we win three trophies this year, we will be better than last year. It's as simple as that," he said.

Cup trophy may start a new treble: Arnold

Win the FFA Cup final and Sydney FC will clinch the coveted Australian football treble.

It's been the motivation for Graham Arnold and his squad to add a third piece of domestic silverware to last season's A-League premiership and championship.

But the coach flipped the message on its head ahead of Tuesday's Cup final against Adelaide United, declaring that rather than mark the completion of a treble already achieved, the trophy would signify the start of one to come.

"It's just about winning the trophy," Arnold said

"As I said to the boys, where does it end? Is it the third trophy or is it the first of another three?

"It's hard to understand in Australian football, the actual calendar year it's a third trophy but then the football season crosses over.

"The way I look at it, it's the first of three, not the third of three."

As per the Arnold mantra, Sydney expect to emerge from Allianz Stadium victorious.

But he drilled home the need to bury opponents while on top - a message that nearly got lost when Newcastle came close to pinching an equaliser in Saturday's 2-1 result.

"As I said to the boys after the game against Newcastle, I want to see 90 minutes of that first 45," Arnold said.

"For that first 45, we destroyed Newcastle.

"I can see the hunger in the players' faces and in their eyes.

"They're excited for tomorrow night, they've worked hard to get there and we expect to finish it off."

Cup trophy may start a new treble: Arnold - Nine Wide World of Sports - Football

It is the first of 3. No team has won a treble. MV held all 3 at the same time which isnt the same thing.

I really don't like our chances which is a shame because after the semi final I was confident.
Too much has happened to our squad since then.

Geez, I would really love to though. First of three indeed.
