+x+x+x+x+xReally was hoping for a mill. no one watches tv in the mornings. sunrise/today show don't reach those type of numbers. reckon the TV viewing numbers might push 2 million tomorrow night now that its on the primary channel instead of GO Yes, tomorrow nights game is definitely the game nobody is talking about. Just another run of the mill game Fortunately channel 9 have decided to do us a solid and put it on the main channel instead of a secondary channel. Lets see what difference this makes I can recall 2005 and the lead up to it..... JON [then CEO] was almost daily in the media talking up the match... told everyone going to wear gold.... at the suggest of SBS set up the pattern of giving people who played and coached first choice to but tickets... they sold out ... and there was never a more aware Football crowd ever... before or since ... We have heard SFA from FFA .... its like ... well stuffed if I know ... but its strange no talk or promotion of about this game from FFA ... We had a TV rating of 6.5 million and the WC rating went throught the roof.... then he told Frank we needed a Western Sydney team to compete with SFC and then was shown the door... for those that are new Frank then owned SFC. Nice insight but I was actually being sarcastic It is very hard to argue any football fan any where on the spectrum is unaware of this game I realised that, but the point I was making was JON promoted and sold the 2005 game to the entire country and the match rated 6.5 million and please compare that to previous Socceroo ratings. This match we have not heard a single word....

+x+x+xthe rugby league WC is hardly sucking the air out of the media Is that still on? I didn't know there were enough countries playing rugby league. They must be scrapping the bottom of the barrel in amateur leagues to get teams together. Aussies truely are world beaters in internationally nothing sports. I guess this perception helps advertisers to sell shit. The italian team is all italian aussies, likewise the lebo team..basically the players not good enough to play for australia. I think even the tongan team is mostly players thst have previously represented nz...its a bit of a mess but a fun concept if you dont take it seriously. Interesting. I am a bit fascinated by this farcical attempt at internationalizing the game.

NineA Current Affair was on 600,000, but because of the football it didn’t air in Brisbane.Nine was originally thinking about running the Socceroos v Honduras match on 9GO! but because of the importance of the game it switched to the primary channel with impressive results. The pre-game in Sydney and Melbourne did 443,000 before the game then pulled a metro audience of 1.16m. The combined national audience was 1.52m with 360,000 in regional markets. The match coverage on 9Now set a new streaming record for the platform with 82,678 live stream starts between 8pm and 10pm.

No, just under 2m but that includes 0k rating for Perth on 9. I think they must have had it on a minor channel so we don't have ratings for it.

Very disappointing to get to get so close to 3 and only have it ruined by TV execs in the west.

Slightly off topic and speculative but I was browsing through the match times for the tournament next year and saw that the opening game for Group C apparently kicks off at 8pm AEST. Let's hope random chance gets us that slot, imagine us featuring in a world cup game during primetime hours back home in Australia! There's also a few 10/11pm kickoffs which we're almost certain to get at least once in our group wherever we get drawn. Compared to the godawful match times from previous tournaments there's a lot of promise for more exposure to the rest of Australia.

We need as many 8pm kick off games as possible I don't recall world cup games featuring Australia reaching 1.5m due to the early morning hours the games are being played. I think in 2006 they were about 1.1m but too long ago to remember with any kind of accuracy 8pm kick off for the first group game against a good opponent (ie- an England) could be pushing AFL / NRL grand final ratings.

Moscow is 8 hours behind us right now (but we are currently on daylight saving time).

Completely agree. I think the best timeslot we ever had was against Japan in 2006 which was 11pm if I recall correctly. The game against Brazil was something horrible like 3am and the game against Croatia was 5am. In 2010 all our games were between midnight and 4am, and in 2014 we had 2am (vs Netherlands), 5am (vs Spain) and 8am (vs Chile) if I remember correctly. It's fair to say we haven't had good timeslots. It's much better to stay up late (at a viewing party or pub) than get up early all groggy near dawn. Thankfully this world cup will be great for the late night viewing parties and shows at pubs. Hopefully we get that Group C 8pm timeslot. Pretty much any game would be guaranteed to have ratings on par with last night's game, if not better, seeing as it would be our opening world cup game on the opening weekend. Get a powerhouse like Germany and it will easily be the most viewed football match ever in Australia, I have no doubt. But regardless of whether that happens or not, we have lots to look forward to and be hopeful in the draw because the 10pm/11pm timeslots are pretty appealing too, since it would be easy to stay up and have plenty of pre-game coverage starting at 9pm. Presumably SBS will show all the early kick-off games because they will be very accessible. Also worth mentioning that the third place playoff and world cup final are both going to be on at 11pm, which is the best we've had since 2002. This is looking like the most TV viewer friendly world cup we've ever played in.

With the extra hour of pre-game to tack on beforehand, we'll be getting world cup coverage here starting at 9pm. Very friendly compared to 2014 (matchdays starting at 2am), 2010 (matchdays starting at 10:30pm), and 2006 (matchdays starting at midnight).

Slightly off topic, but another interesting metric is Wikipedia page views... For Mile Jedinak the "background" over the last 90 days is about 2 to 4 hundred page views a day. On 16 November this jumped to 69.2k.
