Looking at the first XI I'd definitely say that the two non-Sainz spots in the back three are most up for grabs, Rhys Williams in his current form is looking likely, Ange would love the way he plays out, and the door is open for any other young A-League or Aussies Abroad CBs like Deng, Tongyk, or Ansell etc to step up.

Really disappointed Da Silva didn’t stay in Holland this year, even in the 2nd Div. he could’ve got lots of gametime and put himself in a good position for the following year. Brett Holman spent a year in the Dutch 2nd div when he was older than Da Silva is.

Cannot agree with that at all. The Dutch 2nd division is a weak comp. Playing every week in the A League is much much better for his development. Dutch football is not what it once was, apart from the top half clubs in the Eredivisie the rest are pretty weak, the good youngsters go to either the top 3 clubs or elsewhere in Europe and the wages don't keep any of the top quality players in the league.

Watching Daniel De Silva play for CCM last night, this guy has strengths nobody else has.

As an attacking mid he is very quick on his feet, nimble, quick off the mark,  turns sharply, is very skilful on the ball, has speed over the turf, has terrific vision and is an excellent passer and mover in tight spaces.

He  is also becoming more gritty off the ball and has the engine to close down the opposition effectively as part of a team squeezing game plan.

In terms of potential, and I emphasise potential, he  could be our best player in the future.

He has improved out of sight under Okon.

I agree. De Silva and Petratos have been shining lights as far as Aussie players in the A League this year. I would really like them (and Brilliante) to be giving an opportunity in friendlies soon.

ange called him up. jones said no.  he didnt want to lose that time away from his club to sit on the bench.

If Ange stays then I can understand and respect that he never picks Jones again.

Excellent news. Probably a better option to include than say even Goodwin. We do want wingers. Can't De Silva also play on the left if needed?

Taggart already has 7 caps - if he needs to be 'blooded' against weak opposition then he's not ready. Compare with Jurman who was 'blooded' in 4 do or die qualifiers.

he doesn't need to be "blooded" against anybody. he already has 3 goals in 7 games.

Players who were not in the 23 last night who should be considered are

Birighitti, Williams, Spiranovic, Jeggo, Meredith, MacLaren, Mebrahtu, Taggart, Ansell, Mabil, Goodwin, Amini, Hrustic and Dougall.

I also noticed on the Socceroos wikipedia page Lord Jedinak is part of the squad.

I think the backline can def be improved. Grant for Risdon, Williams for McGowan, Spira for Wright or Degenek. Millsy should be playing RCB also given the glut of midfielders we now have and luongo's current form. Millsy's performance against Chile in that position was world class

From fox sports. Burgess and Elder as midfielders plus Elder named as Cameron. I think this guy actually used Fifa national squads. Davidson and Oar aren't mentioned. While not in the frame, they're not in FIFA either. I'm pretty happy with our top 30 or so.

I agree with the entire 23 except maybe Mabil for Da Silva. Exciting pool of players.

Rhys Williams would be a huge coup if he stays fit. Still dusting off some cob webs but his general play looks very promising and would be a step up from Jurman and Wright.

We'd have to have a back-up for game three though, as he'd definitely pick up two yellows in the first two games.

Based on his current form if it continues for the entire season, Dimi Petratos has got to be a chance as a bolter for the WC squad. He is playing consistent high quality football, much moreso than the likes of Hrustic, Goodwin and Mabil who are somewhat bit part players in their teams

The thing I like about Petratos is that, like Troisi, he is always looking for an opportunity to create a yard of space and shoot.  The one difference is that Petratos can actually shoot.

De Silva is my outsider - needs to be more consistent, but at his best does things that others can't.

McGowan definitely out and Ruka too probably.

Risdon depends on his form I suppose and maybe Geria will have a good season and make the provisional 40.

Gersbach I prefer but if he struggles for minutes I would like to see Meredith enter the frame with a full Championship season behind him.

I think Langerak will be fine regardless but Birighitti and Vukovic would be the two most active after Ryan. Jones won't be considered.

CB Wilkinson, Spiranovic and Williams.

Up front Maclaren, Taggart, Mebrahtu. Kennedy entered as a 3rd league player in 06.

Jeggo and Amini have closer claims. Holland no way and Bozanic really disappeared but did nothing wrong. Hrustic unlikely as too Burns and Ikon.

Maybe Duke will enter the extended squad. Brad Smith is a very unlikely option at the moment.

The squad is almost set. Degenek is versatile and has improved. Irvine is a shoe in. Goodwin should just make the cut.
