Is Keogh still considered a foreign VISA this season? Someguy on twitter is claiming Glory are chasing two more Spanish players. One them Xavi Torres, old teammate of Castro. Sounds bullshit to me.
If we can sign two more maybe a CB and DM would be good and go to diamond with Castro leading it. Otherwise still think we are too light out wide.

Christian zaccardo apparently Griffiths replacement and an under 21 player in coming before the season starts. Maybe someone promoted from the youth. Stynes? Getting a Griffiths player gives lots of competition for midfield. Brimmer, Nichols, Wilson, Andreu and Griffiths replacement. With Castro. Hope Kenny has changed his 442 because I don't think it utitlises what we have well. Maybe even be willing to drop Keogh or Taggart if they don't perform and put Castro or even Nichols there as a false 9 with the other striker working off him.

Time For Perth Glory To ProduceThursday 7th September 2017 You get the feeling that time might be finally running out at Perth Glory.
One of the big clubs at the end of the National Soccer League (NSL), so successful and professionally ran, it was one of the few survivors when the A-League launched in 2005. Not tied to any one ethnic group, with strong marketing and a powerful brand, the Glory seem to be a model outfit for ‘modern’ football.
Founded in 1995, Perth made the NSL finals every year from 1998 to when the competition ended in 2004. They won three premierships in that period, winning two championships and reaching four grand finals. They were giants of the local Australian game.
But that success that came in the final decade of the old NSL has not transplanted to the A-League. The Glory are one of just a few clubs that have never won an A-League grand final. Of the eight original clubs that were part of the launch of the new competition 12 years ago only two have never won it – Perth and the New Zealand Knights, now known as Wellington Phoenix. In 12 seasons Perth have only reached the A-League grand final once, back in 2012, and in that game they were beaten by Brisbane Roar. Twice they have been in the FFA Cup final and twice they have lost. They have never finished the season in first place.
Why has success completely eluded this sleeping giant that was once home to star players, high-profile talent, passionate fans and strong local juniors? That can be put down to a number of factors including poor administration, average recruitment, a lack of professionalism, a salary cap scandal and below-par coaching. Even the Newcastle Jets, who haven’t made the semi-finals for seven years and have been the A-League’s basket case for ages, have at least won one grand final. As have the smallest club down under, the Central Coast Mariners.
Perth, despite its isolation, should be one of the top clubs in the competition. It is the fourth biggest city in Australia and is home to around two million people. It has a thriving local football scene and junior base. Some of the best Australian footballers have been produced in Western Australia in the past 15 years. Take a look at the Socceroos squad that took on Thailand in World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. Of that team two players – Trent Sainsbury and Jamie Maclaren – hail from WA and came through the ranks of the Glory. Countless others who have represented Australia at various levels in recent years or played in the A-League are also born and raised in Perth, from Josh Risdon to Brad Jones, Shane Lowry, the Williams brothers Rhys, Ryan and Aryn, Rostyn Griffiths, Chris Herd, Adam Taggart, Alex Grant, Daniel de Silva, Ryan Edwards, Jack Clibsy, Matthew Davies and Riley Woodcook. In the past that number has included Richard Garcia, Stan Lazaridis, Nick Ward, Scott Miller, Jason and Michael Petkovic, David Tarka and many others. The list goes on.
Western Australia is a hotbed of footballing talent. But far too often the Glory has been unable, or unwilling, to hold on to these local juniors. Often they have developed elsewhere and go on to great heights away from their hometown club.
In the 12 seasons of the A-League they have had seven different coaches. Stability has been an issue. Since December 2013 Kenny Lowe has been in charge. After three and half seasons in the Perth, Lowe has managed an eighth, seventh, fifth and fifth place finish.
Considering the squad they had assembled and the talent available, the Glory underachieved last season. They shipped a whopping 53 goals, equal-worst in the competition along with the wooden-spooning Jets. Perth scored plenty, the second-most in the A-League in fact, but defence was the Achilles heel.
Preparations are underway for the 2017-2018 campaign. An impressive roster has been assembled with Andy Keogh, Mitch Nichols, Taggart and Diego Castro joined by Spanish pair Andreu and Xavi Torres. Castro is one of the best players in the A-League and his compatriots should be big assets. But the defence has not really been strengthened and already the club has suffered a big upset, being knocked out of the FFA Cup by part-time team Heidelberg United.
This season is Glory’s chance to right the wrongs of the past. Perth, with all of its talent, natural resources and investment, need to finally produce.

Same story every season. I expect much of the same. Hopefully there are the right personalities around the team this season and nothing disruptive to turn it around. Fingers crossed.

They may do well but who knows? I think it is good for Perth that Griffiths left as I think he is a hothead and disrupts the team. I am surprised Keogh was picked now because he is also a bit of a hothead and in some matches concentrates on complaining rather than playing. Perhaps he will grow in the role but its not good when the leader of teams have a constant strop

Poor coaching and administration sums it up. And a bit unlucky that a disgruntled ex employee dibbed on salary cheating...something i'm sure we aren't the only ones guilty of.
Bit of hyperbole though. Time running out? Also with Castro, Xavi, Andreu, Nichols and fitness to come our clash with Heidelberg is hardly indicative of anything.
Also defence last season was Grant, Lowry and Dino all being injured at points...with the Williams fiasco on top of that. If Grant and Lowry stay fit and play with each other with Xavi infront i doubt our defence will have as much issues as last season. Also Maclarren isn't from Perth. He's a Melbourne boy. Lol i sound salty...but bit of a shit article.

Of that team two players – Trent Sainsbury and Jamie Maclaren – hail from WA and '/or' came through the ranks of the Glory.' I agree though with the defence - still concerns as that IF is a big one. From an over-abundance of CB options last season to a lack of depth defensively this season. Alot riding on Grant and Lowry, on their fitness, form and card discipline. The only other squad option is defensive utility Jacob Poscoliero and that's a worry as like we saw last season, even with such depth we saw long-term absences for Grant AND Lowry last season and even with Djulbic and Rhys Williams about, Glory were stretched at some points, using defensive utility Aryn Williams in there. Scott Neville also capable at CB, but he's our first-choice RB. Poscoliero is more of a direct replacement/upgrade on the squad role Aryn Williams took up - and like Williams he's primarily a RB. I hope this perhaps means Lowe and the coaching set-up have faith in one of the NYL/NPL talents to be promoted as the third/fourth choice CB option as these are the kinds of opportunities that exist to give more opportunities for younger talent coming through. That's how Neville, Risdon and Grant broke through in the first-place. Have less Eastern State journeymen who barely play - may aswell have a young West Aussie who barely plays in there instead. It's better for the cap too, which may already be getting tight? CB depth and perhaps another option for the left side/left wing are the only areas that need to be tended to now I think, for Glory's squad.

Some interesting insights into where the next A-League teams will be coming from in an article in today's Worst: Second WA A-League team a long way off
A-League chief Greg O’Rourke has poured cold water on the idea of a second team in WA, saying it will not happen for at least four years. And the sports governing body is likely to clash with Perth Glory over a stadium if they secure a home final. Glory want to stage any final at nib Stadium but the A-League want a game at the new stadium at Burswood. Speaking at the launch of the 2017-18 A-League season yesterday, O’Rourke said the first of two new teams would likely be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. “The east coast would be the preference not only for us but also for the broadcasters in at least the first round of expansion,” O’Rourke said. “We are still committed to expand and we have a long-term horizon that will probably look like 16 teams.
“We’ll probably go up in twos from 12 to 14 to 16. “We would be looking at the 2019-2020 season for the first two teams, to give them an opportunity to build their clubs. “After that you start thinking about teams from anywhere in Australia that makes sense at the time. “What we don’t want to do is expand then find that we would have preferred a different model. “The first expansion will come along once we’ve fixed the new operating model, which effectively allows people to buy into the entity, the A-League, as well as get a licence.
“Nothing is locked away but it’s a little bit too far to be thinking ahead any further than the first two teams. We would like to think that there wouldn’t be any more than two years between the expansion.” Glory chief executive Peter Filopoulos said: “We feel that underpinning the financial sustainability of the A-League is the priority in the short to mid-term, while also retaining a lens on expansion further down the line.” Football West released an ambitious plan for a second WA side last year. NPL club Fremantle City also flagged an interest. O’Rourke said there was a preference for any new franchise to be strongly linked to grassroots soccer.

The new stadium will be like a fucking morgue if a final is held there. A packed nib with 18-19K >>>>>>>> a not even half filled Perth Stadium with barely 25K. Might be different if the GF was held there, but not any of the other final matches.

Perth would fill the new stadium for a GF, no problem. Or at least get a crowd well over 50k .... if they can't do that they don't deserve to be in the HAL.

Former Blacktown FC striker Mitch Mallia signs injury replacement contract with Perth Glory
Flying high: Former Blacktown FC striker Mitch Mallia has signed an injury replacement contract with the Perth Glory in the A-League. Picture: AAP Image/Darren Pateman Blacktown FC midfielder Mitch Mallia will head west to take up an A-League injury replacement contract with the Perth Glory. A star forward for City this season, Mallia scored six goals from 18 games during the National Premier Leagues season but impressed during Blacktown’s FFA Cup run. Mallia is no stranger to the A-League, having played one game for the Central Coast and 18 games for Sydney FC before joining the Demons in 2014. It was this sparkling form that brought him to Glory’s attention as the club’s head of Football, Jacob Burns, confirmed. “We keep a very close eye on who is performing well in the various NPL competitions around the country and we’re always willing to give those players an opportunity, as we’ve shown with our recent signings of Joe Knowles and Daniel Stynes,” Glory’s head of football Jacob Burns said. “Mitch was Blacktown City’s standout player as they enjoyed a very successful season. Obviously he has previous A-League experience and he’s quick, has great technical ability, an eye for goal and can use both feet. “Several other A-League clubs were keen to secure Mitch’s services, so we’re delighted that he opted to join us here in the West.” The 25-year-old will cover Joel Chianese, who suffered a chipped collar bone and will be sidelined for about 10 weeks. Mallia became the youngster player ever to represent Central Coast Mariners as a 17-year-old. Mallia made his Perth Glory debut last week, starting against the Newcastle before being subbed out at half-time. Glory head coach Kenny Lowe said Mallia and other injury replacement Jeremy Walker did well despite little preparation time.
“It was a super effort from those guys,” he said. “Jeremy was very intelligent in what he did and Mitch was involved in creating the first goal for [Adam Taggart], so they both made a major contribution to what was a really encouraging team performance in difficult circumstances. “And our two substitutes [Chris Harold and Jake Brimmer] also did well as they were both involved in setting up the second goal.”

Wonder if Nichols is going to walk into the line up this weekend or not. Pretty sure he has served his ban.
Wouldn't mind see Nichols and Wilson start. Andreu seems underdone. And I think Wilson has shown much more than Xavi. I hope Xavi has a lot more to bring but Wilson I think has done enough to deserve a starting spot.

Perth Glory goalkeeper Liam Reddy praised for giving gloves to young fan Melbourne Victory lossStaff writers, News Corp Australia PERTH goalkeeper Liam Reddy has been praised for giving his gloves to a 12-year-old fan after Glory’s 2-0 loss to Melbourne Victory. The young goalkeeper, who started playing football this year, was attending his first A-League match ever following a “rough year personally and financially” for his family. The supporter had changed schools, his mother had been dealing with a spine infection, and his family had moved house twice in a matter of months. So when Reddy came over and presented his gloves to the youngster after the game, “it became all too much” for the young fan, according to his mother. Liam Reddy.Picture: Getty ImagesAccompanied by a photo of her son, Denise Benda posted on Perth Glory’s Facebook profile: “Dear Perth Glory. Today as a sole parent of 3 boys I took my eldest, the 12 year old, to his very first game (reluctantly as I follow AFL). He’s a passionate goal keeper having played his first season this year. After a rough year personally and financially, moving house twice in 3 months and myself spending the first few months of the year out of action due to a spine infection my boy has had a tough time settling into his new school tgis past month. Today it all became too much as he was handed Reddys gloves after the game. He just couldnt hold in his emotions and then I lost it too. Out of all the kids along thw fence this means more to my boy than you could ever imagine. Although random and lucky I thank you from the bottom of my heart. These will truly be treasured.”

Happy with this. Continously have been singing his praises. He snaps sometimes but i think gametime and more confidence will help.

Decent cover off the bench as well with Harold, Djulbic, Chianese, Grant, Santalab, Brimmer and Neville plus whatever youngsters they have. Good mix of experience and youth. Think Perth will be my smokies for the coming season
