I've watched it a few times. The kid turns and puts his body in between Marrone and the ball. Marrone is overzealous trying to reach around him for the ball which basically turns in to a hug and the kid goes down.

Watching it at normal speed I'm not convinced the kid is being smart. It feels like he is looking to the ref and waiting on a call of whether he's returning to the ball to a red shirt or not. Remember this is all within the space of a second between a kid in 2 minds and Marrone thinking nothing but give me the ball now now now.

Honestly that's how it looks to me.

Solution. Ball dispensers where the press of a button releases a ball. Pit them in the shape of sauce bottles or a caltex pump and everyone is a winner! :D

LOL, he's not there as an assitant to the refs, he's there as a ballboy, when I was a ballboy in a sunday league GF, I was fukn scared of the players and just threw it to anyone. The kid knew what he was doing.
