Nah, Hindmarsh Stadium is up there with AAMI and Central Coast Stadium as the best stadiums in the A-League for spectators. Please don't replace it with one of the cookie-cutter monstrosities that seem to be in vogue these days.

+xit is never going to happen with a state labor party in power... When they were in opposition , they complained about the hindmarsh upgrade for the 2000 olympics... they see more votes chasing populist AFL junkets in china and expensive oval upgrades ..... "they see more votes chasing populist AFL junkets in China and expensive oval upgrades".......and they're not wrong. the Liberals are the same; as are every political party looking at an election. Leon Bignall chose an India v Pakistan cricket match even though millions more watched the Asian cup match that he could have bid for, simply because the millions weren't voters in the local election and that's what politicians do.

+x+x+x+x+xIf Adelaide had a 20/30k spanking new stadium Origin would still be played at Adelaide Oval - NRL manages the images of their series very carefully and 50k at AO is way better than 30k at a rectangular stadium with better sight lines. Interestingly League fans don’t seem as bothered as football fans on issues like this. I haven’t checked but I’m betting NRL social media isn’t clogged with criticism of playing on an oval. Because it is a one off game, if there was an Adelaide rugby league team however they sure wouldn't be happy either. They might get 50K if they fly in 20k or so of Qlders & NSW people & keep admission cost low. There is a reason the old NRL team " The Rams" folded, although losing didn't help! Meh, their first season averaged over 15k and they never actually came last, although that is probably due to the fact they only existed for 2 years. I was about 15 at the time the Rams were around.Between school, my parents workplace, walking through the local westfield or Rundle Mall, you easily got offered a free ticket a week for those games. No exaggeration. I remember the time well and it was getting pretty annoying with people throwing around free tickets, it was like everyone got sucked in to Amway except they don't actually make any money Their crowds dropped off in the second season quite significantly so maybe they stopped giving them out haha. I think Origin coming to Adelaide could be a precursor to a new team. The NRL has copped a lot of stick over the years for not actually being a truly national comp.

Not so happy they are even playing the game there. If you are going to play O/S do it in Auckland not Adelaide.

@feed That would be a dream however it would seem more likely AFL would receive funding to help build Eddies Victoria Stadium, at least in Melbourne anyway. "He said he envisaged the venue showcasing rugby league, rugby union, soccer and AFL matches, as well as major concert tours." http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/bold-plan-for-melbourne-sport-hub-involves-building-one-new-stadium-demolishing-another/news-story/ecda45ba043bc1ff4d9c977d05f773c5

+xPerhaps its time we team up with the AFL and get them to assist us in building rectangular stadiums for their bullshit game AFLX. It would be deliciously ironic because I would expect new stadiums to be built in no time. seeing that almost all government funding for sports infrastructure in the southern states goes towards AFL, it might actually be in our best interests for AFLX to take off... as funny as it sounds.

And when they tell us to get fucked that'll be all the proof we need that the whole point of AFLX all along was to starve football of infrastructure at both elite and grassroots levels.

@ Nachoman.
Yeah definitely. These games (MCG, Perth Oval and then Adelaide Oval) don’t have to be moved, they’re being taken nationally to promote the code and they want stage managed, big stadium events.
There is criticism of the move but it’s not to do with the shape of grounds, just taking the State game out of the two states concerned.
If the AAPFC and AAFC want to understand what Gallop/Lowy fear about the clubs having more power and control they’d do well to look at NRL where the clubs are just as political as football’s equivalent. NRL is not entirely a happy bunch of campers often making football look well run and stable lol.

+xYes. I haven't been to MCG for RL but remember watching the Broncos at ANZ (QSAC). League isn't a good sport when you are far away. Especially if you aren't up high. i watched two socceroos game at the redeveloped Adelaide oval.. fortunate the first time i had corporate box invite, second time , in the middle tier .. but it would be horrible anywhere else hindmarsh, great from any angle

The media and govt keep spruiking this whole adelaide oval is world class stadium shite... I bet those Qld and NSW fans are going to love the crap view of their game when they are in the top tiers of the western and southern stand... If only we had a 20-30k rectangular stadium,,,, Alas that will never happen with this anti football state govt

+xShame the economics in australia are so poor for privately financed and controlled stadia...would beat waiting for politicians to see football as worthy over road/rail/health etc... The difference is that Sports/Events generates money for a state's economy, ie the Brazil Argentina match on right now in Victoria, which the state government invested $10 million in attracting. State investment in bricks and mortar in this field can reap profits all throughout society for decades to come. Sports and major events like this bring $1.8 billion a year into the Victorian economy, nine times more than the new $200 million Joan Kirner Women and Children's hospital will cost. You do the maths.
