Blockbuster FFA Cup match-up in Victoria

In a mouth-watering match-up, Victorian NPL1 powerhouses Hume City and South Melbourne have been drawn against each other in an FFA Cup preliminary round clash.

The draw for the fourth round of prelim games in Victoria was held last week, with the clash between the two former semi-finalists the standout fixture.

Victorian NPL clubs enter the draw at this stage and to have two massive clubs facing off so early in the competition is massive.

South Melbourne enjoyed a dream run in the FFA Cup in 2017, progressing all the way to the semi-finals, where they were beaten by eventual champions Sydney FC.

Hume have also enjoyed regular success in the competition, also making the last four in 2015 where they went down against Melbourne Victory.

But at least one of these two clubs won’t feature in the Round of 32 this year with their do-or-die encounter set down for Friday, March 30 at Hume’s ABD Stadium.

Hume City downed Green Gully 2-0 over the weekend. Image: Hume City.

Some of the other key clashes in Victoria see Port Melbourne Sharks given a tough home assignment against fellow NPL 1 club Pascoe Vale FC.

Oakleigh Cannons and Bentleigh Greens will both fancy their chances of progressing, playing NPL2 outfits Eastern Lions and Box Hill United respectively.

Kingston City will take on Dandenong City in another intriguing tie, while NPL1 club Northcote City will travel for the clash against lower league Mazenod Victory FC.

NPL 2 club Brunswick City are warm favourites to progress after drawing State League 3 club FC Strathmore, while state league 1 clubs Yarraville, Western Suburbs, and Caulfield United Cobras have all drawn lower league opponents.

All the ties are set down for late March or early April.

Alice Spings announced?

Down 1 in Alice and Down 1 in Darwin. Sadface. Can't always gain though :) This is a dead comp anyway according to paulc so all advances are irrelevant and this comp was not wanted by the FFA despite seeing nationwide growth regardless of tiers.

This is a bloody good Competition and something that unique to our game. With all the clubs involved it really should have more publicity then it does

Unless the agenda was not about promoting the comp.

Well how many players and people are in contact with those 770 teams (including A-League fans), probs 1 million and Westfiled keep making "savvy" sponsorship deals in Australian football.

Big news for Heidelberg United.

Labor will chip in $2 million to transform their home at Olympic Village.

They're talking new sports fields, lighting and a synthetic training pitch.

This one’s for every player, fan and volunteer that makes this proud club what it is.

Really want to see Adamstown Rosebud and St George Budapest amongst it this year. Time for the historical clubs to get some showtime.

Also If we can consider Moreland Zebras as the succesor to Brunswick Juventus (who knows lol), then I want them to get through. Really wish they could change their name back to Brunswick though as we need to reconnect our history.

How I have ordered my FFA Cup wishlisht.

Priority:
1. Previous participants (get some continuity)
2. Former Aus Cup champions
3. Former NSL participants
4. Fan base (although the first 3 is likely to establish further the existing connections to clubs and support)
5. Age (Not a massive factor)

Wollongong would of been disappointed to be knocked out by a lower league club.

They would of loved to make the FFA CUP again, for their HAL aspirations

This is why Southern expansion needs to come in, they're undefeated.
