Well played Australia. But 12 years on from the game against Italy we are still slide tackling in our own penalty box. Please stop it. You must know that the big football nations always get the benefit of any doubt against us. We need to wise up and use gamesmanship on the big stage like they do against us. The only areas they outperformed us last night was winning free kicks, diving, acting, getting yellow cards on us. Time wasting. Leckie got a yellow card but where was the yellow card for the French central defender who deliberately handed the ball? Did we ask the ref where was the yellow card for him? No. Please wake up and stop being naive because we have been getting beaten by this gamesmanship for more than 20 years and we will until we give them a dose of their own medicine.

if Risdon doesnt slide... Griezmann buries that into the far top right corner...

The game against Chile in the confeds cup will forever be etched in my memory as the preferred template for Socceroos teams moving forward.

Drawing a team that didnt qualify for the world cup and just wanted to go on holidays after the confeds?

I dont think fozz has said anything about foreign coaches just that we had not much in attack. He has consistenyly said he prefers a high press and wants us to go at teams more aggresively. Thats just his prefered style and one he thinks suits the australian character.

Watched the first half again and it seemed we played  a 442 when defending with Rogic and Nabbout the two up front.

Many teams seem to use a 4-4-2 flat midfield in BPO, even if they use a 4-3-3 in Ball Possession.

Who else can play in his role? Arzani's too green, Oar's not even in the squad.

Petratos?

Nabbout.

Just analysing some moments. When Irvine and Juric won the ball, a few seconds before saw Kruse and Leckie already moving forward in an attacking position. Very happy to see them recognising chances.

It should happen with all players to support the player in possession of the ball .

I thought we played a great game that took the juice out of their attack and we dictated the tempo and flow of the game.

True, but they  were also conservative with their squeezing after the first 10 min.

They dropped the intensity and were happy to sit.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Kante wore Rogic like a glove.  Rogic put very little pressure on Kante.

I would have liked to see Rogic play wider and drag Kante with him to leave a hole down their middle-Kante plays so deep.

We got nothing offensively from Nabbout, Rogic and especially Kruse.  Kruse has used all his credits and must not start next game.

One other pleasing  phenomenon was that Risdon displayed extraordinary skill on about 4 occasions against France. A bit of a rarity in Aussie players.

I've been really surprised with how negative Craig Foster has been about such a good Soccerooo defensive performance.

His new bias seems to be against all foreign coaches.

I can't believe that from all the coaching courses he has attended in recent times, C, B and A Licence, and his general  pro playing background, that Fozzie can't appreciate defensive play.

In coach education  with the KNVB there was more onus on setting up a team to play with a defensive structure first and foremost and build on it, as opposed to trying to get the proactive part of the game correct first which is advocated in FFA coach education. The Socceroos have just been too open and predictable to play against in Ange's last 12 months in charge.

Popa and Armie work on defensive structure first and foremost. BVM is at another level in terms of defensive organisation.

I can understand that we need to be more creative around goal and create more chances to be successful against Denmark and Peru though. Robbie Kruse encapsulated the successful match plan, which should have resulted in a draw, in his post game interview. So did Nabbout.

They both said the team executed BVM's game plan perfectly, by condensing space in the middle, blocking passing lanes and forcing them wide.

I watched the highlights show. For the first time it looks like Risdon touched the ball and the French penalty should never have been awarded.

Shame we didn't get our  deserved 1-1- draw.

I hope the point lost doesn't become significant in determining qualification beyond the group stage.

Euro teams think its funny because they know it effects us. Not our fault we haven't been to the World Cup every 4 years for the last 100 years.
Fuck em I say, lets get past group stages ! rock it roos

Time for us to start playing them as well, saying things like we are worried their players will dive to try influence the ref.

I thought we played a great game that took the juice out of their attack and we dictated the tempo and flow of the game. By being so patient with the ball, they started to press and anticipate playing back which started to open up space. By still being in the game in this way until the 80th minute, it actually created a situation where we could have snatched a win at the end but it didnt fall our way. Overall very impressed

Interesting that hernandez is so proud of being a cheat. He can try and justify it to himself by saying it is "exaggeration" or "part of the spectacle", but everyone knows what it really is.

Besides the goals we were quite fortunate where the ball landed our how the French were with their first touch. Griezmann might have controlled a few balls yesterday and managed to get a good shot away.

Hopefully everything lands well for them in their next two games. I think we want France to pull away completely now.

FRENCH villain Lucas Hernandez has admitted he “exaggerates” when going down after a foul.

The France left-back drew the ire of Socceroos fans in Kazan Arena during Australia’s 2-1 defeat to France by going down easily on several occasions during the match.Hernandez’s every touch was booed by the tens of thousands green and gold fans, but the Atletico Madrid youngster told media after the match that his theatrics are just “part of the spectacle”.

He was the French player I thought  was their best. He kept Rogic quiet. Kante was a veritable thorn in our side.

Don't know much about his club career.

Good riddance to a Head Coach wedded to a single playing philosophy.

The Australian head coach should be in the business of developing local based technical coaches. So they they in turn develop technical players.

The team huddle after the game shows something has finally ticked amongst the group. Ange had lost the dressing room this time last year and I found the player group quite careless and odd.

Peru were bickering amongst themselves after the game. It appears to be part of their culture and temperament but I wonder how strong they are as a unit. They've got the hardest opponent next and are staring down the barrel. So are we and I'd hate for Peru to be a dead rubber.

88min saw Ryan come out and smother Mbappe. We were then able to regain possession and Arzani too off on the ball. His pass to Leckie was a tad heavy. Arzani has such pace off the mark. I feel he's still best off the bench for now.

In hindsight, starting Irvine and having Rogic off the bench would have been interesting.

In minute 93 we had the ball but resorted to long passes. Minute 94 Risdon probably needed to cross earlier. Mooy had his cross cleared by his Pavard. Behich with a good long throw and Arzani got swarmed and taken out late. Leckie had a bad shot with his left. I'd have jumped out of my chair if it had been a fresh Rogic standing there off his left foot.

95 Juric turned well but tried a through ball for Behich which was intercepted. Arzani was somewhat available on the left.

Looking at the second goal it's slightly disappointing that a fresh Irvine and Juric stopped behind Pogba instead of charging into his back. Jedinak pushed up and Sainsbury had been drawn out. Behich and Milligan shuffled accordingly and Behich was extremely close to clearing the shot. What rotten luck it hit the bar that way. A tad more it would have either gone over or bounced back to the waiting defence on gold.

We had our woodwork lucky in Kaiserslautern and against Syria.

One thing that's annoyed me since the game reading and listening to reviews is how often the terms gallant and brave are used.
It's so condescending.

I'd rather terms like disciplined,Tactically astute or well executed game plan.

Just watched the replay for the 2nd time and it's surreal seeing us out there going toe to toe against a side like France. I was especially happy to see Milligan play a brilliant game in defence. It was also good to see Risdon try his best at such a high level. His opponents play such games every week.

Ange  tactics aside, I have memories of getting dicked by Thailand and Iraq and then matching France for long periods.

After the 2nd goal Jedinak lost the ball carelessly twice in a dangerous spot. If France were really in song we'd have been punished a lot. He was lucky to get the foul in the first half too when France had taken the ball off him.

According to the German commentary we didn't have a shot in the 2nd half and inky had 4 shots all game. The French did keep us at bay but we're going to need to shoot a lot more against Denmark.
