This looks promising, hopefully there's enough squad space left for him to get the squad he wants for this year or close to it.

A great player in his day with Bayern Munich and with Liverpool, he played with Harry Kewell so there would be some interesting stories on that front.
But overall a great get, his coaching CVs is not that bad given he coached Stuttgart and Hoffenheim so i expect the standards to be quite high, a shoutout from Tom Juric for recommending him to WSW.

Happy with the signing. Shows that management are doing something and investing money into the club.

+x Very interesting. And a three year contract too! Gombau had a three year contract as well, just saying. Looks a decent signing though.

Going to be hard to turn the club around in a hurry. Don't see them making the top 6 even with signings to come.
GK Janjetovic Suman
DF Hamill Tongyik Mourdoukoutas Risdon Elrich Llorente
MF Bonavacia Lustica Tokich Ikonomidis Carrusca Baccus Baccus
FW Fitzgerald Kamau Majok Santalab Scott Sotirio Grozos Roberts Riera Bridge

Certainly looks the goods. Unfortunately the way the club is being run has to be called into question following Gombou's sacking. Hopefully the club treats him with a little more respect than his predecessor.

Looks like a good appointment and should be very well connected with getting quality imports in.

Hopefully the club treats him with a little more respect than his predecessor. Based on what? I've seen comments like this and they're made off the back of a complete lack of understanding of the situation. There we numerous behavioural issues the club addressed with him during the season. Gombau did nothing to adjust his style. It's on him, the club gave him a shit load of rope and he hung himself. Missing the top 6 was the nail in the coffin

Hopefully the club treats him with a little more respect than his predecessor. We don't settle for mediocrity. Gombau WAS treated with respect. He had quite a few quiet words in his ear of what was expected. Remember, when he was signed and he was asked about the squad, he said he had a squad to challenge for the title. Once it started to unravel he began blaming the squad. And yes, a manager who is looking forward to the RBB!!!! Genuinely excited about the upcoming season now. More than I have been for a while.

I'm hoping he's not too disappointed with Olympic Park. If he can get us sorted for a good season in 18/19, then 19/20 he'll be witnessing what Tomi Juric described as the WSW atmosphere and more.

But he was never backed by the board and the CEO by the sounds of it from the start, why appoint someone who had a vision for the club and for then to not back onwards from next season when they signed new players like Kamau and Tongyik? Dont know but the board does sound a bit erratic to me. There might be off field problems with the manager and players but thats common in football, the key is for the board and CEO to back the manager and let him fulfill his project that he applied for. Let's hope they dont backflip Babbel like they did with Gombau.

+xGood signing. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Haha spot on. It's worked with some success for Melbourne City so far, less so for Wanderers at this stage but it seems they have faith and are willing to continue with the system and continue following the path of their masters. Now stretch, stretch, stretch, touch your toes, touch your toes, touch your toes, now reach, reach reach aaaaaand jump, jump, jump lol

Let's hope they dont backflip Babbel like they did with Gombau. The board won't back someone blindly who isnt going to get the job done. Just because someone has a future vision for what the club could achieve, doesn't mean you give them free reign to balls everything up along the way. Yes off field problems are common, but if the squad is boardering on mutiny and there is clear mismanagement, you're going to get sacked.

"One of the biggest points why I came here to Sydney is because Tomi Juric was saying the crowds are totally crazy," Babbel said at his press conference on Saturday. "Switzerland was a good time there but the supporters are very quiet and not so many in the stadium." Erm... who's going to break the bad news to him?
