Behich was so close to clearing the Pogba goal. Ryan was positioned well. Had he been on his line he'd have caught it.

BBC commentators were adamant VAR got it wrong. Slow motion replay clearly showed that Risdon got a touch on the ball. No penalty.
After match panelists agreed and felt Australia were hard done by.
Magnificent effort.

+xI hear what you say HighTimes, but to be honest I’m over heroic losses. They do nothing for me. I know man, I know. Me too ... I do feel that after Czech, Hungary and now France it seems like heroic losses will be the outlier instead of the norm. The team has done the Ange Postogoclu 'moral victory' thing, I really think we've turned a new leaf. We did play well, It's just that France is a billion dollar team. Ive got few complaints at this point, ask me after Denmark though :) .

France should be ashamed of that....needing a soft pen and a deflected shot that barely crossed the line to beat us. I really hope Peru and Denmark can beat them, I will be going for both of them when they play France!

I’d start Jedinak, Luongo and Mooy. Then Rogic for Jedinak if we are looking for a goal. Or Irvine for Jedinak if we are looking to hold on and Jeda is tiring.

Great performance by the whole team. I honestly think risdon got a touch on that ball and have no idea how that can be ruled an obvious error. How Sainsbury is not playing for a big team i have no idea, he's a world class defender.

Oh and Arzani should be starting next game...time for him to get a full match instead of Kruse. I would perhaps give Cahill or Juric a start over Nabbout too. And Irvine or Luongo instead of Rogic, who can be brought on as an impact sub if needed. Everything else can be retained.

Would love Sainsbury to join Van Bommel at PSV. Maybe Arzani too.

Who’d have thought - most commentators disagreeing with the VAR. Can’t wait to hear what Bozza the great VAR supporter has to say. Meanwhile another 10000 Australian casual supporters turn off.

+xRyan + Risdon saying there was a touch for what it's worth. There was a touch The VAR isn't about improving refereeing. It's about installing someone you don't know, will never meet, and no proof they actually exist, in a place where you can't get them, to ensure results go the way the profiteers want them to go.

Painful. So close.
Being rational we kept the margin down big time.
France sitting pretty on 3 points but like Germany in 2010; maybe France will lose to Peru and we'll draw to Denmark leaving a massive final day.

Pretty solid effort. It sucks to say but I would’ve taken a 2-1 loss. Gives us a real chance to progress now. Some shitty reffing, I watched this at a cafe in Italy full of Italians and various other nationals and they all said it wasn’t a penalty so that speaks for itself. Also why wasn’t Umtiti’s penalty a mandatory yellow card for denying goal scoring opportunity?

For anyone wondering why Umtiti wasn't red-carded, I'll clarify the World Cup rules.
Rule 1.1.1. Section (a). Part z: Whenever a "minnows" plays one of the Big Names, no ref is allowed to make any decision that will fuck the Big Name over.
Carry on.

If he plays like he did tonight for the rest of our games he will be playing for a big team in a big league very soon.

+xI'll be pissed if this squad rests on their "near enough= good enough" laurels and fails to kick on in the next two games. Based on tonight, we're a red-hot chance of progressing out of the group stages. :D I don't think any team captained by jedi would give anything less than 100%, the guy is terrifying. They boys are trying, it's plain to see.

A bit of nerves shown by Arzani on his first touch of the ball today. Teammates barely passed to him after that although that was when our midfield was shot.

Will be very interested to see neutral global press coverage of the penalty. I wonder what the reaction would be if it wasn’t given?
Sainsbury, then Mooy or Behich MOTM for me. Moore made a comment before the game that to beat a team like this, 9-10 of your players needed to play the game of their lives and I reckon we almost did that.
We just lost composure at the end and so much time spent in defensive duties sapped our energy.
Sainsbury’s name is now in every scout’s notebook in Europe. Behich might be in a few too.

I think it's a genuine attempt to make the game fairer. FIFA's heart is in the right place, unfortunately It's just woefully inadequate. Subjectivity from referees is part of the game, its ridiculous to try and remove that, you literally can't. Spend the money used on VAR to better educate referees and on anti-machfixing programs instead.

The Czech presenters didn't question the decision (cultural hangover from communism) but they said it was certainly not what should have decided the match. That's the closest a Czech will get to saying "absolute fucking bullshit"

It was a decent effort from our boys and a little unlucky we didn't get a point from the game. The Risdon penalty decision was one of those 50/50 calls that could have gone either way. I thought he might have clipped the player right at the very end when he broke free, but its still inconclusive. Having said that he still wouldn't have got the ball but if he clips him, he clips him. I am still not convinced that Mile should be in the team, he really scares me when he is possession of the ball and on at least 2 occasions he was caught with the ball while trying to casually stroll out of defence. You can't afford to give cheap ball like that. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more go forward with the team. We still have this tendency of playing our back to goal and playing back rather than forward, just turn the corner and go. This is where our technique and body shape let us down. Its the way we receive the pass and where we are passing the ball to our players (ALWAYS SLIGHTLY BEHIND). Its not a terrible result and if France get decent results against Peru and Denmark then we are in for a real shot. Overall a decent performance, we needed to take a more cautious and pragmatic approach to this game and I am glad we did. If we played Ange ball in this match I felt we would have got destroyed. In the long run we want to get to that position where teams have to worry about the way we play and adjust, but now is not that time.

The french player blaming the pitch by saying "It was a bit dry" just killed me.
Yeah buddy, it was the pitch that nearly beat you. Idiot.

Call me a sceptic but there's bucks to be made for FIFA making sure minnows don't knock out the big boys. Hello var.
