Yes Kiwis should be on multi-million dollar contacts.

So any pub league Aussie gets a free pass to A-League level as long as he has number 9 on his shirt?

How about plauers earning their spot in a quality league? Or are we too unique for that?

I am a bit over the sarcastic unique argument as a defense against trying things. Having a foreign player minimum wage is not unique. It is place in one of the 'trinity' leagues for a start.

I'll admit I was a little too dry in my response.

In general terms I believe that less regulation other than a minimum wage combined with more places available created by more teams, at least one more national league and pro/rel is the best environment to allow talent to get their chance and further develop.

I would say that regulating salaries by not just nationality but also playing position is not at all the way to go.

To answer OP's question, I think that the only end product of mandating a high salary for foreign players would be a shitter version of the Chinese league.

Every club should have a player like Bobo or Berisha leading the line, their skills, knowledge and experience are highly valuable for young players looking to learn from established players.  The problem isn't imports, it's old farts like Brosque or hacks like Simon keeping younger better players down the pecking order.

Nabbout is a product of Ange giving him a crack at senior first team football and prioritising player development rather than relying on old farts to grind out a scoreless, mundane draw.

Brosque is not an "old fart", he's 34 years old. Played 21 games for Australia, won the a-league premiership 3 times, and is sydney fcs leading all time goal scorer and is still playing very well. I'm sorry but to want to get rid of players like Brosque is insane.
