It’s kind of a catch 22. Who else are the A League sides meant to play at this time of the year?
Roar tried to set up additional NPL opponents on three occasions this year to find that the first team was on the piss in Bali. And right now you don’t need walkover wins against out of condition part timers, you need to be playing quality opposition.

+xDamn the amount of times the HAL clubs seem to be playing each other in pre-season just bores me even more. The reality is that with teams already playing each other a minimum of 3 times a season in the HAL, along with the FFA Cup and pre-season matches added in, it does become a little less than ideal. Agreed, although I will say considering the line up we put out last night that City v WSW game was barely A-League v A-League anyway

Luckily with only 16 players signed and injuries to key players, that team that played MV aren't even close to being a starting XI let alone peaking. 😅

+x+x+xNewcastle play WS Wanderers this weekend in Maitland. Jerks 3-0 up at HT. No idea on WSW line-up, Jerks playing same team but with Kanta/Ugar replaced by Cowburn/Ridenton. Vargas with 2 assists and a goal. Dimi and O'Donovan carving it up also. How's Ridenton going? Does he look the goods as a import?. No idea, I'm not there. Seeing as we're 3-0 up without our starting midfield duo I'd assume so

+x+xWanderers v Nix 1-0 Mostly the squaddies and youth players for the Wanderers. Supercoach Mark Rudan to be gone before Christmas. Perhaps. He's a great tactician but he his squad is very thin and with axe looming on the whole Wellington franchise, he really can't recruit the quality he wants.
