Tommy Oar is set to join A-League club Central Coast after securing his exit from Cypriot club APOEL.Oar has been at APOEL since June last year but has terminated his contract with the assistance of Professional Footballers Australia, making him a free agent. It's understood the former Socceroos winger will now link up with the Mariners.
It's potentially bad news for Usain Bolt - Oar is a natural left-sided attacker, and the left wing is where the eight-time Olympic champion is hoping to carve out a spot in the team. But regardless of whether Bolt actually realises his ambitious dream of becoming a professional footballer at age 32, the Mariners will have snared a proven A-League quantity in Oar."I would like to thank the staff and players at APOEL and wish them all the best for the future," Oar said in a statement released by the PFA on Friday."I thank the PFA for their support during this period, which has been invaluable."
Oar burst onto the A-League scene as a teenager at Brisbane Roar in 2008 and quickly earned a move to Dutch outfit FC Utrecht, where he spent the next five seasons. An ill-fated stint at Ipswich Town in England followed, before a brief return to the Roar and then his switch to APOEL, for whom he made 19 league appearances.Central Coast are expected to confirm Oar's signing in the coming days. And if coach Mike Mulvey can back it up by snaring former Melbourne City ace Ross McCormack, who is reportedly in talks with the Mariners as well, then the A-League battlers will have assembled their most potent squad on paper in some time.

Heard McCormack might also be on the cards. It'd be massive shot in the arm for the mariner's attacking stocks.

Regardless of whether CCM wil sign him, I'm glad he's out of Cyprus.

JA never knew how to use Oar,so here's hoping Mulvey can. If he can run and lob in passes to the striker ,CCM could cause havoc. Oar,ONeil and Hiariej is a solid looking midfield. They all know how to defend, aren't ancient and are mobile.

Im guessing theyd line up Kennedy McGing Cisse Golec Clisby O'Neill Hiariej Hoole-McGlinchey-Oar McCormack
Bench: Pearce, Aspro, Melling, Simon, BoltIts definitely an improvement for them. If Cisse-Golec form a good partnership thats a pretty solid spine. Would be wondering if Kennedy is the best option at keeper and if theyre one fullback (and maybe CM depth) short of a decent top 6 tilt

Matt Simon can head the ball, so good crosses in from Oar could work.

Will be very interesting to see how we fit Oar in if we continue with the 3- 2- 2- 1 - 2. He's not exactly a wingback or a central 10 is he. Still very excited to have that extra bit of class and experience in the squad, if he signs. I'd be fairly happy with that lineup if we do play a regular 4231- swapping out Bolt for Pain of course :P

“JA never knew how to use Oar” yeah but nah. Oar was just shit, lacking in confidence and always looking for his next overseas gig.

Pretty good. His undoing has been that Mario Been the coach who brought him there was sacked and they've had 2 coaching changes since with the new coaches bringing in more wingers. He's way down pecking order now albeit to some very good players

Oar should hang up his boots. He's one dimensional and never really finished learning his trade when he was in Netherlands

It was such a poorly executed move too. The refusal to sign a new contract, the idea that I think it was Ajax was after him, the Bilbao trial when he wasnt eligible and then landing up in a league he was poorly suited to and didnt settle.
