Awful lazy, late cut, played by Handscomb that resulted in a caught behind and his dismissal.

Did you see that as a late cut DC? Then I got it wrong when I said it was a dab to third man...fave among the flat track bullies.

Finch  and Marsh should be hauled over the coals for their horrendous dismissals. Marsh played a similar shocker in the UAE.

Our tail has to hang around with Head tomorrow to get us near their score.

Plus, he has already scored a Test century in Asia.

He is also a very good fielder and  a handy spin bowler.

Although I can barely remember him in the recent Shield game against Tasmania at Bellerive. I'm not sure he bowled, or was in the team?

I respect your personal opinion. The facts tho dont back up that.

I will admit that he is one of our better players of spin. His Asian century proves that.

Our tail has to hang around with Head tomorrow to get us near their score.

Finch's Victorian coaches insist he  struggles against the swinging new ball and shouldn't open in test cricket.

I read today Marsh has played 35 tests, scored 9 centuries and 6 hundreds. At the same time he has a very high number of single digit scores. He is a very frustrating cricketer.

That Indian attack was really  good yesterday. I can't remember  seeing them bowl as well as a collective unit in Australia before. I think India will win the series.

Even though the Australian players are trying their hardest, the batting just doesn't have the quality to win games in test cricket against  tough opposition.

Maxwell has scored a test century  in Asia - a rare feat in current times.

His test average can't be too bad compared to current players.

That is obvious. There was a good coating of grass.. some early overcast so naturally the new ball is going to move. Surely Finch can read a pitch by now. Third ball. Brainless.

Unfortunately, my favourite opener, Matt Renshaw, was out for few yesterday against a Tasmanian attack. I have been hoping he is a solution to strengthen a weak batting line up.

I think Bird or Bell skittled him.

As an opener, Finch did quite well  in the UAE.

Renshaw can not buy a Shield run. Yet he smacked a triple ton in Premier Cricket last Sat/Sun. He is not down on confidence. So what is wrong?

Travis Head has proven twice now he is the man for a crisis. We need a couple more with a similar temperament.

Both attacks have been good. Clearly a bowlers's wicket. Ashwin smells blood. He will be dangerous in second innings.

I do still have faith with Finch, looked good against Pakistan hopefully this brain fade forces him to realise what needs to be done.

not to be combatitive but which facts?

His test average is low but that is only after 7 matches in away matches where he scored a tough century in asia. Most players take about 20 tests to aclimatize and their test average usually equals their first class average. He is right on track to do just that if he gets the opportunity

If you chase a style of player rather than just the players with the best 1st class average you are almost always worse off

Finch is fine in spinning and road conditions.

He is diabolical early on in swinging and seaming conditions.

It is what it is. Put him on a MCG road - a century will not surprise me at all.

Send him to Kolkata for some Border Gavaskar - him slapping a big 50 or even a century - would not surprise me.

Put him on a grassy wicket and he's out 3rd ball... ditto.

Send him to the Ashes next year as an opener, I don't see him making drinks let alone lunch vs Jimmy. He makes a first morning hundred there under clouds or on greenies, I'd be amazed and expect to see some of the luckiest nicking and french cutting ever.

a first class average of 35 suggest he isn't that great on roads either to be fair

Finch is fine on roads. He doesn't have all those ODI centuries against some talented bowlers, because pace worries him...

Its his concrete feet and bat wafting at 4th to off and middle stump line.

I think he's absolutely clueless to read seam and swing. The irony is - he is now an opener!

Amazingly though, he does the same thing against spin, but middles the ball.

If CA wants a ready made replacement for SOS Marsh when he is sacked.. look no further than The Big Bear ..evergreen Cameron White. The big fellar fron country Vic  posted his 22nd FC ton this morning. He has in excess of 10k FC runs and averages a tick over @40.

I think its hard for cricketers to adjust to different pace of play

I remember slats who was decent at test but hopeless at odi

Mitch Marsh's ODI record implied he should be a once in a generation all rounder at test level but he's ordinary. Wish we had enough cricketers so everyone could specialize to a single format

You could always take the England and NZ approach... put some more wicket keepers in the team.

Mathew 'Scissorfingers" Wade has put on a few runs this year... and Hobart is the liveliest Aus pitch no?
