The whinging from the Sydney clubs is so pathetic. You don't get an indefinite monopoly on a city as big as Sydney.

+xThe whinging from the Sydney clubs is so pathetic. You don't get an indefinite monopoly on a city as big as Sydney. exactly. sydney and melbourne has room for alot of teams. considering newcastle, having a population of like 500k i reckon Sydney and melbourne could fit 8 teams in there. Both Sydney clubs should STFU and deal with it.

If SEX can be held to their $300m stadium deal then SFC will be severely embarrassed if the redevelopment of SFS doesn’t go ahead.
Team 11 looks to be a Mexican stand-off though, with no one willing to say “yes” first ... Canberra through the back door then?

It doesnt look like the government will agree to anything without knowing who is getting in. Its a risk but i think its a pretty safe gamble for the ffa to give it to team11..surely something will be worked out soon after.

+xThat’s pretty disappointing that wsw has come out against another club. Definitely. Up until now, WSW have been pro-expansion in Sydney and only SFC have complained. I wonder what made the shift? Possibly a few bad seasons crowd wise due to playing in a paddock. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if WSW weren't really that concerned and it was more just a meeting with the 4 major clubs in the 2 cities.

I highly doubt discussions haven't been taking place behind closed doors tbh - for the sake of appearances the Government won't announce they'll fund the stadium until Team 11 is confirmed.

SFC and WSW are whingers. They have the whole city north of the harbour to carve up. Technically SFC includes North Sydney ,Manly and Chatswood. WSW can claim regions up to Hornsby. Both clubs have had more than enough time to build fan bases. No club should be able to stop a new club. Let the free market decide. Monopolies suck.

It’s not even about building fan bases...
If there is enough support for another club, how is it our business?

Reminds me of the São Paulo situation where they got 10 teams in the city but all got there own neighbourhoods or regions but Sydney is similar to rio in terms of geographical terms WSW would be flamengo as they have the largest support base in Brazil and in rio ESFC would be vasco de gama there fierce rivals Campbelltown marcarthur would be fluminense I expect Campbelltown to come in to go in their region Campbelltown MacArthur region and do their magic there.

Femski - you crack me up lol SM Hellas would be happy with 1500 attendance because they can break even, milk attendance numbers from other supporters in the derbies and suck the HAL funds until it suits them and then go back to the little leagues. Do we really want another club 2km from the rest? Seems the other two new prospects have a lot more to offer including being being more inclusive.

Yep and flamenco have 32 million nation wide fans in Brazil similar to WSW, ESFC would be like their rivals vasco small fan base that call themselves a big club and those to have a huge grudge against each other lots of violence tho in that rivalry

Just thinking that it is possible they will announce 3 winners, the third starting a year after the two on the basis they can get their stadium shit together. Wouldn’t surprise me st all.

He knows the odds are high that at least one of the Melbourne bids will fail to build a stadium, so becomes a guaranteed spot for South.

Im getting a bit confused on the logic behind the reason for the 4 new clubs now which is reported as FoxSports and their “plan B”.
The clubs look to have balked at a 22 round season (fans certainly did) throwing the whole thing into chaos (I’m guessing under the old model Gallop would just have forced it on the HAL clubs citing “something, something participation agreements” but an independent HAL scuppers that approach ...).
Announcing 2 now and 2 later doesn’t overcome Fox’s cost objection as:
10 clubs/27 rounds = 134 games 12/33 rounds = 198 games 14/26 rounds = 182 games
Even Fox’s “plan B” is an extra 50 games for Fox or $4m extra in cost if we believe their numbers. So what is their problem?

A crowd of 1500 is merely an example of how sustainable the club is in the A-League . South Melbourne will get a minimum of 7000 fans per game without even spending one single marketing dollar as a bare minimum guaranteed anyone who thinks this number is not achievable has rocks in their head

So what is their problem? They wanted to be in on the boardroom discussions on Wednesday. Was their initial position a play to get the Board to agree to that? Now that the Board has said no they have reverted to their "real" position.

A third Sydney team will fail. Just because Sydney has a big population doesn't mean more people want to watch football. The crowds for both clubs now are hideous, so a third will be even more embarrassing than it is now. The Rugby league crowds in Sydney should be warning enough.
