+x+xThere is nothing wrong with Boyle playing four Australia. We should support any player who has the luxury of dual nationality making the choice to play for us.It’s a huge honour to play football for a nation, and I don’t know many that would reject the opportunity, even if it was for a nation you’re only eligible for through your heritage.I’ll support the bloke and those that selected him. Couldn't care less about Boyle playing for us, however there's not honour involved in this. This is just a professional sportsperson capitalizing on an opportunity to increase his own personal value after not being good enough for his actual nation. Presumptuous.

+x@ Muz Not sure what your post is re Arzani? The sooner this country just accepts FIFAs rules and gets on with playing football the better; this “we’re unique” shite needs to stop. Boyle qualifies to play for Australia. End of story. Whats it got to do with "we unique"? I'd just like people who play for Australia to have at least lived, in and experienced what its like to live in, Australia at some point. I'm not losing my mind at it but we can't whinge about the likes on Simunic playing for Croatia and then accept the likes of Boyle.

pretty arbitrary measure. How long does a player have to be in Australia before we can call him up?
Let’s say if an OS Aussie had a kid and they were a prodigy at 15. Despite not stepping foot in Australia, they want to play for us because of that parental link. It would be unfair to deny them the chance...

+xBoyle should not be playing for Australia. The national side is a representation of the nation and of us as a people. A bloke not born here, who has never put foot in Australia until last week, should never have been selected. I don't care what other countries do and I don't care how good he is. (And he was excellent last night.) Maybe if he was born here and then moved away. Maybe. But in his particular situation no way. It cheapens the shirt. Thank you. I have posted this on twitter many times. He doesn't represent Australian football because he wasn't produced by us. Where he was born doesn't matter. I have no emotions for him because I didn't see him come through our system unlike Giannou, Arzani and others

You can’t take away a wo/mans birthright.
An Australians son or daughter, no matter where they are born or raised, is Australian and therefore entitled to represent their country.

The incessant defending of Tim Cahill.
Was a great player for the national team, no doubt. Though from his short A-League stint, was quite the dirty player. Loved flinging his elbows around.
But he wanted to take FIFA to court for blocking him playing for Ireland in the 2002 World Cup (so really just wanted to play for anyone as long as it was in a World Cup), talks in the third person, and off the field is a massive flog and liar, when he should just be honest when asked questions.
Reporter: "Will you consider coming back to the A-League? Cahill Flog: "No, it is too far away, my family is based in New York"
Nek minnit, signs for an Indian Club LOL.
12 months before he came to A-League: Cahill Flog: "A league is crap (not direct quote), has no vision, not for me"
Nek minnit (12 months later), Melbourne City offer 4 million dollars: Cahill Flog: "Ohhhh the vision, A-League da best, I'm the messaih....................but couldn't get off the bench because he was over it lol.
Await the Sydney FC flogs on here having a heart attack because of my view, somehow linking it to their inferior club.

The people who Hate Tim Cahill always seem to hate the rest of the golden generation as well. People seem to revel in Harry Kewell failing at coaching for instance. No way to explain it other than cutting down the tall poppies. Some people can't stand the fact others have tried to make something of themselves.

He was a bit of a knob when he talked, but he didn't beat around the bush, and didn't act like a goose like good old Timmy does in occasion. I'm just not a fan of Timmy the man, always acknowledged his playing abilities in his peak.

An evil part of me secretly wants Arnie to fail because he has picked grant, and because he also comes across as a massive bellend. Which is harsh because not only is it our national team but I’m sure he’s a good bloke in real life when away from the media and sidelines.

Just watching The 2015 Asian Cup wrap. Ange even at that stage was an angry old man. While I don't think we will win the Asian Cup, I think the Arnie era from then forward will be a great time for the Socceroos.

Don't know him so it's hard to tell what he's like in everyday life. Hopefully Arnie era moves us forward with better all round results.

Adam? Where are you? Where is peacock ? I want an apology. This is our NT manager when in meltdown mode. It will eventually come back to haunt him in this job. Right now I have no love for this team. I love when they play for their overseas clubs and following the Aussies abroad. I can't get on board with Arnie.

Losing Aaron Mooy for the Asian Cup is not the nightmare it is painted as. In meaningful international competition since the beginning of the main Round of WCQ in September 2016 he has played for Australia 17 times for 0 goals and assists against Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Thailand.

Glad I'm not the only one who has thought this - plays poorly for Australia imo It is a paradox, isn't it. Listening to the Guardian Football podcast the other day and they were discussing Huddersfield's squad and they basically describe Mooy as the only player in the squad who would be guaranteed to find another EPL team starting position if Hudders go down. Yet, like you two, I am ambivalent about Mooy missing out on this tournament.

The best I've seen us play since 2011 was the child match where Irvine and Luongo played CM.

James Triosi should be in the squad at least and is highly underrated. Performed at every club hes been at apart from Atlanta where he wasn't given a fair crack. Imo has starred whenever playing for oz connecting mid to attack. Right to be pissed. He's a jerk so then everyone tries chop him down but he's a rolls royce

Timmy Cahill should still be in the squad and wasn't given enough of a go at recent clubs (millwall and city) and for oz due to age bias

Leckie is highly highly highly overrated. No decision making no composure no touch. Moves so well though and can dribble so when he pulls things off he looks like a star but never mind the 20 times before that he's given the ball away.
