If they did not have the two good spinners and the deck was not wearing I would agree.

Khawaja - 4 matches 420 runs @52.5 including 3 centuries.
That alone should get him a trip. Spin is his achilles heel.

Khawaja is a certainty for the Ashes unless he completely fails against Sri Lanka.

How many wickets down at the end of the day?

I will go with zero.

Overcast..swinging ball, seaming ball, spinning ball. I wish I could share all your confidences. India holds all the aces. Three down by stumps imho

I was almost wrong already, Harris gets hit on the gloves attempting to duck a bouncer that did not get up much.

Harris has a problem against the short ball when on the front foot. Ponting says he has to learn to watch the ball later. Easier said than done I expect.

Congratulation to Australia for scoring 300 for the 2nd time in the series

Prior to this series from 17 matches the opposition had only on 7 occasions scored 300+ in an innings against this excellent bowling attack. For Australia to do it twice in 4 tests is a credit to it's batting line up. Unfortunately for India to lose 6 matches in those 14 the quality of bowlers in the opposition matched India's. Unfortunately our bowlers haven't matched India's and have given too many runs away.

With Australia unlikely to bowl again the final series tally from a possible 80 wickets in total available

Lyon 21 wickets @ 30.42 got his share, a bit high in av but he is a spinner  7/10

Cummins 14 wickets @ 27.78, didn't get to his fair share of wickets, slightly higher than his average 6/10

Hazlewood 13 wickets @ 30.61. Many were predicting 18-20 wickets for this series which would be par for a 4 test series, fell a long way short, and with an average worse than our spinner 4/10

Starc 13 wickets @ 34.53. Same really for Hazlewood higher average 3/10

Compared to India's currently

Bumrah 20 wickets @ 17 9/10

Shami 16 wickets @ 27 7/10

Sharma 3 test 11 wickets @ 23.81 6/10

Jadeja 2 tests 7 wickets @ 28.57  6/10

Ashwin 1 test 6 wickets @24.83  7/10

Yadav 1 test 5 wickets @ 19.8  7/10

That probably really shows a difference they have 6 bowlers that out rank us with the possible exception of Cummins.

As Ian Chappell said "you can't win a test match if you can't take 20 wickets"

Who ever said I wrote it with a straight face? But it is an actual fact. In 50 years when we're all dead and buried, future cricket followers, will look at these facts and assume, Australia's batsmen weren'tt that bad, the bowlers must have been to give 7d/622

It is history of cricket, I don't have to go back all that far to see that against SA, where SA bowlers totally dominated but our bowlers in particular Hazlewood took 12 wickets @ 39.25 and Starc 12 wickets @ 34.41, you start to wonder why are these players selected.

Then I see this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_selection_bias

do you think I should edit wikipedia, the world wide encylopedia and add this current side as an argument for?

In more news ex-players are coming out saying Starc and Hazlewood should be "rested" for Sri Lanka test to give an opportunity to view others. Have to agree

Shaun Marsh is playing for his career tomorrow, but selectors may still consider him to play in the shadow of Smith and Warner where he may excel. Who agrees with that?

I'll definitely tune in tomorrow as history is made with India finally winning their "Holy Grail" of cricket. Credit to Kholi and his team regardless of the argument about the Australian team they have outplayed us in all aspects, and are truly deserving of their place in history as the first Indian team to win a series in Australia.

As Ian Chappell said "you can't win a test match if you can't take 20 wickets"

Those Indian averages reflect our poor batting. No way Sharma bowled better than Hazlewood...or even Starc.  Tho our three quicks should have yielded better returns  we can not deny their effort against two of the worlds best batsman. Kohli was good but Pujara was unmovable. Perhaps the best performance I have seen by a visiting  batsman. He for mine was the stand out difference between the two teams. That is not to say India were not the superior side. They were in all aspects and our bowlers need some soul searching while the batsmen  should simply hang their heads and be ashamed to be called Australian Test batsmen..  Khawaja  and Harris are the only two I want in England.

Yes Sharma bowled a lot better than Starc and Haze... He bowled better than them in South Africa as well... And I think Sharma did better than Starc or Haze will do in England next year also...

Sharma's numbers for the year are outstanding... 41 wickets at 21.8 striking at 49....

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/236779.html?class=1;template=results;type=bowling;view=innings;year=2018

Sharma has to bowl well to keep his place in the team ahead of Kumar and Yadav... which he has managed to do so...

This is the kind of denial that has some Aus cricket fans in a bubble that Warne and O'Keefe are trying to break down as we speak... because they know there is a huge problem with the bowling... Warne thinks its mostly form, but O'Keefe knows its technical and wants swing bowlers for the Ashes...

I also believe its technical completely for Starc, his ball release is completely wrong for swing or seam, and as for Hazelwood - since he upped his pace, he's lost his radar...

How did Ishant get better? He played seasons of country cricket the past years...

India bowled pretty poorly early in the series. However, as they got easy wickets they attacked the stumps more often and seemed to get more aggressive with their line and length

South Africa V India where South Africa won the series V Australia's Batsmen against Same Indian attack playing away from home. Order match up is against total runs scored

De Villiers av 35.16         Harris 36.85      Australia +1.69
Elgar  av 41.4                 Head 33.85       Australia -7.55   (Overall -5.86)
Amla av 33.83                Khawaja 28.28  Australia -5.55   (overall -11.41)

Markram av 23.33          Paine 24.85      Australia +1.52    (Overall -14.25)
Philander av 15.66         Cummins 23.28 Australia +7.62   (Overall -6.63)
Rabada av 12.66           Starc 23.4         Australia +10.74   (Overall +4.11)
Maharaj av 18.5             Handscomb 21  Australia +2.5      (Overall +6.65)
de Kock av 11.83           Finch 16.16       Australia +4.33     (Overall +10.98)
Morkel av 7.25               Lyon 20.75        Australia +13.5      (Overall +24.48)
Phehlukwayo av 4.5      Hazlewood 10.2 Australia  +5.7     (Overall +30.18)
Ngidi av 4                      M Marsh  9.5     Australia +5.5       (Overall +35.65)
Others Steyn no average 16 runs in total, Labuschagne 1 innings 38

It seems to me that Australia's batting line up have matched what SA batting line up did and in a big way, nearly 36 per innings. How did SA win the series? Their bowlers humbled India's batsmen including Pujara and Kholi, something Australian bowlers couldn't do. These are the same South African batsmen that went to town against Hazlewood who averaged 39.25 and Starc 34.41 against SA. India's batsmen also smashed the Australian bowling attack, thus the scores they achieved. So by saying Australian batsmen should hang their heads, yes in a way your correct, but the biggest problem, is that Australia's bowlers especially Starc and Hazlewood are struggling to match what other bowlers are doing around the world.

So I say to you Baggers and others, take your heads out of the sand, with Smith and Warner to return, that should automatically strengthen our batting line up which isn't that bad because we do bat a long way down, but without changes to the bowlers, we will continue to see big scores against us, remembering Warner and Smith did play in all but 1 game in South Africa. And why are Smith and Warner out of the side? They took sandpaper to the ball, and why did they do that? To try and assist the bowlers that were being smashed by South African batsmen something that the same South African batsmen couldn't do against India.
