Bosnich May have been confused with the Asian Cup qualifying stage. When Indonesia were suspended, that left one group a team short and they then excluded results against the last place team to determine who went through to the next round when they needed the 4 best 2nd place teams and 4 best 4th placed teams.Although that relevant Appendix 2 is missing from the publicly available comp regs.

The relevant competition operations manual of AFC.  Appendix 2 is on page 69

Id be keeping Milligan in midfield hes doing well there. Nabbout will probably be fit to give us more attacking options too.

we need to control midfield to win. i would be swapping jurman in for sainsbury.

Kruse is destined to start this one I'm afraid. Mabil and Ikon both have a bit of soreness and I can imagine Arnold rotating.

this was supposed to be the toughest game of the group. maybe he was planning on having 6 points by now so he could rest a few key players.  our progression is far from assured. we need to be playing this with our first choice team.

Assuming Palestine don't get a win we'll go through on 3rd place if we lose to Syria. 2 Groups are confirmed to have 2 3rd placed teams go through on 3 points or less with shit GD.

It appears so. Lots of 6 to 0 point gaps which plays well for us. Expect Japan and Uzbekistan to win tomorrow as well.

if palestine smack the second string jordan team we might need more than a draw.

if we draw and palestine win - very likely outcome - it will come down to goals scored/difference etc

No If Palestine beat Jordan and we draw then we finish 2nd due to head to head with Palestine. We should play a defensive team because we only need a draw. I doubt a draw will get Syria through so they have to come at us.

Yeah so a draw will guarantee second.
A loss still has the possibility of 3rd place progression, as long as Palestine don’t win.

For those of you who are concerned that Jordan might roll over in the Palestinian game because they have nothing to play for, consider the political implications. The Palestinians are a displaced people living mostly in Jordan for decades. I think the Palestinians would dearly like to beat the Jordanians, while the Jordanians would not want to experience the humiliation from their fans of having lost to the Palestinians. So I don't think we need to worry about Jordan throwing the match with the Palestinians.

Good point, a lot of social motivation for both sides.

Might just shade in that regard towards the Palestinians however as the underdog with nothing to lose.

The Jordanians might throw the game to keep the Palestinian Refugee amps happy and content.

It would cost Jordan nothing to do that.

If anyone speaks Arabic, I'd like to know what they're saying in this vid. Probably nothing special though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_nD0-ynZ6s

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

The closer it gets the more I realise how massive this game has become. It's a big one and losing could end in heartbreak but more a real wake up call to underlying issues.

We've got to get through this one and then I take comfort in Leckie rejoining the squad and Mabil and Ikonomidis hitting top gear.

The other teams maybe have less depth. It'd be nice to use some of ours but it's seen as a risk. You wouldn't expect Amini or Jeggo to start. Perhaps Jurman or Giannou.

While Syria are a tougher opponent than Jordan on paper, I’m not sure why people are getting comfortable wth the fact that getting through on 3rd place is ok.

It would not be good, but ultimately progressing out of the group is all that matters. Portugal won the euros finishing 3rd in their group and i doubt they care about that.

The political ramifications and impact of Palestine qualifying for the R16 would be massive on a global scale. Imagine the impact in Israel as well.

Which is why I am not ruling out the possibility that Palestine beat Jordan convincingly. The Arabs could throw the game for their Palestinian brethren.

With that, they kill 2 birds. The evil Australia is knocked out, and the oppressed Palestinians are through.

So, Syria is a must win for the Aussies. The Syrians will give everything to beat Australia as well, to help the Palestinians and because Australia was involved in the Syrian War and is a supporter of Israel.

Politics rule this entire region. I know!
